There needs to be a clothing line of prom dresses for muslims and just anyone else who wants to cover up more
Nah
Yea erm....no!
how about more modest options ?
Or just more dresses that will pass the test :)
definetley!!
the most deceiving thing is finding a long sleeved modest dress......but there's a thigh high slit *le sigh*
Green Olive same but always modifying dresses is annoying
tototi95 I just wear tights underneath
Green Olive idk sometimes modifying the dress ruins it. so I just dnt buy it
I swear the slits kill me all the time lool
Thats when you wear leather or glitter leggings under it
People should respect their opinions. Being modest or being too revealing is a person's choice. Instead of judging people by their appearance, skin colour, faith or anything else is disgusting.
I agree! I am a catholic and I respect and enjoy learning about other people, their culture, and religion. You can do all of that while maintaining your own beliefs and religion and I think everyone should! PREACH
Aisha Ahmed We do.But we too do not like modest clothing being promoted as Superior to what we wear. Recently, gave a man piece of my mind when he used the covered vs uncovered toffee analogy to us,saying how better off his sister's are.
I personally don't believe in modesty myth as it pits women against women.
Respect goes both way sisters.I don't judge you and you don't judge me. More power to all of us.
Thank you.
If it's about choice, then why do they say "my parents won't allow this", "my mom would never accept this" and not "this is not modest enough for me, i wouldn't wear this" or "this is not appropriate for my faith".
Dr Aishayyy so true thanx for making my day thats me and now people dont respect that😭😭😭🧕🧕😍😂👎😡
I wore a traditional dress from my prom, people loved it.
using Muslim as a buzz word? All i see are teenage girls customizing their experience.
Mr Not That Famous yeah but when your Muslim you have to wear something modest and that's a rule most Muslim parents have so it can be seen as prom according to Muslim teens ygm
well they're muslim and they want to stay modest which is part of being a muslim woman so what's the discrepancy ?
+Zahra Musse Actually there are lots of Christians who also believe about dressing modestly, so they are using the word "muslim" for views...
Mariaah except for the fact that the girls they showcased in the video are Muslim. They aren't using it for views they are showing how these girls have struggles
Erica Khandaker why is following the rules of our religion stereotypical?
I didn't know muslims got so much hate from the world untill i startded reading youtube comments ! I'm from south india and my neighborhood and school has muslims, Christians, hindus, sikhs.. There's not even a specific area to say that it's one particular kind's area. All have houses intermixed and all.. I must be so lucky.. And i didn't know untill i started reading comments
PRIYA JAMES u r an idiot
Im from south india too. I kmow what ur sayin. Its nice tht ive grown up around various religions n people who mingle comfortably
@@sarakey2780 what is wrong with you??
Yes. In Bangladesh too.
Me too south indian. I am muslim and i have friends from diff religion.
😂 Everybody's mad that they used the word Muslim... is it hurting you to see that you're not included or something?
BLINKER hi blink !!
BLINKER
OMG YOUR PROFILE PIC GIVES ME LIFE, MY BABY JENNIE!
BLINKER Blink!!!😍
Ahh jennie!
heyyy blink
As a Muslim, I love seeing young Muslim girls being represented normally in the media. It's important to me that they are called Muslim, because this is clearly a big part of their identity. When we have so so so much constant negative press unfairly targeting Muslims, we have every right to getting positive representation too. This just shows that people practice their religion in many different ways, and we're not that different from everyone else (even though we get demonised all the time).
Lol. Your prophet calls you girls 'prisoners' and 'blind domestic animals' and you love your religion and prophet. Talk about Stockholm Syndrome.
Secret Diaries lol where'd you get that from mate I didn't learn this in my Catholic school
Secret Diaries That never happened where did you hear that
@@secretdiaries8146 mo married a 6 y/o but cleavage is a sin??? 😭🔫
this is horrible represntation of muslims 🤦♀"mom wont say yes" is wrong, its "allah wont say yes"
ME being a Muslim in a Muslim school, there's no such thing called prom 😂
Its Error ikr??
Its Error Not true, I mean you can always go with your friends.
LeGenD33227 actually there are Muslim schools... but I don't go there.
I mean prom has been an American thing forever. I guess now other countries are adopting it too
Actually I heard Americans call prom 'homecoming' and in Europe they call it 'prom'??? Am I wrong???
I'm not muslim but I typically were modest dresses too so I can understand their problem. That being said, all those dresses were nice and they looked awesome on those girls!
Joy Hammond there is no problem dressing modestly so I'm kind of confused by what you are saying...
Sometimes it's hard to find modest dresses for prom and other dances. That's all and then I was just complimenting them on their style.
Joy Hammond not all muslims wear modest prom dreses in my country a lot of teens wear normal dreses to prom
Joy Hammond same with me.. o skipped my prob actually!
I don't understand why so many of the comments are saying this video is bad or offensive, the video is simply showing how Muslim girls have struggled with finding a dress they like and under these circumstances, they can still feel beautiful.
I'm Mormon, which is a very modestly dressed faith, and the struggle is real!!! I literally can't shop for a prom dress in the store, I have to go online. Also finding trendy modest dresses is almost impossible
Megan Smith i am too LDS and like it was impossible to find a modest dress for my grad party.. i was lucky to find a cute one online TT-TT the stuggles
Mormons are the liars of religion 😂 y’all are super funny
krista randisi We believe in being HONEST, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - We believe all things, we hope all things we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things.
Megan Smith I'm not Mormon, but extremely modest. I've almost cried when I was looking for prom dresses. The ones that are decent are only online, cheaply made or way too expensive.
I am LDS and I actually found my prom dress at a thrift store for $15, but I'm definitely an exception, not the rule
when you see all these nice and non-hateful comments on a video about muslims but then you scroll a little more and there's that one toxic comment and you're just like -_-
xkiaaax lol true😂😂😂
xkiaaax islam is not a race tho
Clorox Bleach yeah... sorry that was my mistake, Islam isn't a race. I just meant comments that were hateful to Muslims or Islam in general. (I'll make sure to change that :))
+xkiaaax perhaps because Islam is a toxic, cancerous, and murderous ideology that tells its followers to kill pagans and tax christians and jews?
Blank Blank
No that's not generally true so please get your facts right. I don't think it's right to judge people by their religion and some people don't even get the choice to be Muslim or not
Modesty isn't just a Muslim thing it is universal. Unfortunately, modest prom dress are not universal. I really like this video.
Believe me I am a conservative person, even though it won't sound like it, I am, but modesty is your standard, y out were raised that way, and as much as anyone would like to say their open minded, their not, nobody is, I'm not, no matter how much I want to be, but not every body fits "your" standard, showing skin doesn't have to be sexaulised, heck, walking around naked shouldn't be a problem, but it is, your were raised in an environment that said it is, therefore you believe it is, unfortunately, tyranacy isn't an approach anyone would like to take so yes some prom dresses might not be for you, but they are for everyone also, modesty is not universal and if it is ,there are 7+ billion people on earth, the standards not the same if you don't like it , then don't like it,but don't discourage it, it's not yours or anyone's place, no matter how disturbing it is
There was no hacking. One girl put a long sleeve shirt under her dress. The other two just wore them as is. Where is the hacking?
Aileen Gonzalez ikr

+Seeker O' Truth it mean laughing my a*s off
Great contribution from the "Parental Advisory Explicit content"
Seeker O' Truth yeah you made my day.
Edit: I just commented this to say how people can be conservative without being Muslim and it's not all about religion with how people dress. Everyone is different and my dad tends to be conservative with how I dress but that's all. He doesn't restrict me in anything else. As his daughter, I would really appreciate if you guys wouldn't comment rude stuff about him. He is super nice and even all of my friends love his personality. Just because he doesn't let me dress in revealing clothes doesn't make him creepy or anything else. He is just looking out for me. And that's the point I was trying to get at.
I am not Muslim but I have to be modest with my dresses too. My dad would not approve of anything that's shorter than knee length nor sleeveless nor strapless. It also should not show my cleavage otherwise I would have to wear a tank top underneath.
I don't have to worry about the cleavage cause I legit have none
Glitter Essence that must be great!
My dad is the exact opposite but, for me, when it comes to clothing, I'M A REALLY CONSERVATIVE PERSON!
My whole family is muslim but im allowed to wear anything i want. I can wear mini skirts short shorts and my dad is totally okay with that. My friends are muslim too and theyre just like me. Being muslim is not about covering your body. Hope everybody will understand.
+Anonymus Girl i am sorry but it kinda IS about covering yourself
the girl with the flower skirt looks so GOOD and PRETTY
I remember I cried in high school because I was so so unsatisfied with my halalified formal outfits for year 10 and year 12. I don't dress as modestly as I did back in the beginning of high school (much to my mum and dad's dismay) and I can 100% relate to these teens even now. It's so hard to dress modestly WITH LOTS OF CHOICE FROM DESIGNER OF DRESSES AND FORMAL CLOTHING. Obviously in general modest dressing isn't hard. Business and casual attire are abundant with options for covered up outfits, or non-fitted outfits.
Some outfits look like they're for children, or 'mature aged' women. Things in the middle demographic: backless, strapless, sleeveless, sheer in spots that look sensual, cut-out patterns, low neck-lines, body-con, asdsdhsdfdgckl;...
I'm gonna be back when there's more drama in the comment section

Zainab Adil exactly!!! people wanna create drama out of nothing these days 😂😭
mariya is ukttfht
I'm so happy those young ladies found dresses that worked for them. Have fun! 💜
Anyone can be born as a muslim and call their selves decent. The way they dressed, it looked regular prom dress to me.
Exist Reality yeah exactly you are right
Exist Reality American prom dresses are way more revealing than some other countries. What you see in the movies is actually very accurate at some schools.
(Source: I'm Canadian and we have some of the same dresses)
WhyYouGottaBeSoRude Don'tYouKnowIAmAnAnimeToo the one with the floral skirt is soooo cute it reminds me of something I️ have in my closet (long sleeves too!)
omg i saw you somewhere!
Rvenomic P Skull Hamartia u will see me more often
did I miss the hack?
Any other Mormon girls who totally understand how they feel? Its very hard to find cute modest clothing, especially dresses.
Emmy Mamic I'm not Mormon either but I like modesty. I know there are other girls out there with similar tastes, it's so irritating they don't make more modest and simple prom dresses.
I was just thinking the same thing, modest good looking clothing is hard to find, Imma Mormon
I’m a Muslim my mom is VERY a strict I cant go out with my friends WITHOUT her coming with me it’s hard but I still love my family at the end of the day and I’m not even allowed to wear swimsuits my mom said I’m getting to old I’m ONLY IN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Lol yasss! Going shopping with friends is so hard bc we want to get matching clothes and they all want to get crop tops and tube shirts and I'm like k then
please please just let us have the shine for 5 mins just please
my church actually makes modest dresses for proms and stuff 😄 we aren't Muslim we're lds but anyone is welcome to get them
Aw thats really sweet
Can I ask what site it is?
Here you go :) www.latterdaybride.com/modest-prom-dresses
Janice Freij thank you!
What y'all mad about today?
beeutskindeep they aren't wearing seatbelts! That's dangerous!
beeutskindeep them not wearing seat belts
Net neutrality
Tide pods are a foRBidDeN snack
beeutskindeep for real
Why are they all not wearing seat belts thoughhhhh....
Hollie Boxall that's what asians do!
Because in Asia nobody wears seatbelt because there's no laws for that and they keep doing it here and it's a habit
Hollie Boxall Also it feels so much more free
+Palak Patel So sad...am I the only asian who use it?
Ferdhaus Ismael nope
I agree! there should be more modest clothes. I'm not Muslim, and I live in a progressive community where girls can wear revealing clothes. Girls wear short skirts, shorts, tank tops, bikinis, etc and that's great. but sometimes I want to wear more modest clothes. looking back on the past, I don't understand why as a 15 year old nowadays, all the trendy shops near me only sell skin tight jeans, crop tops, and clothes with cutouts. I like dressing that way, but I wish I could have the option to cover up without looking like a frumpy couch cushion. Fix this fashion industry!
i connect with you on a SPIRITUAL LEVEL
I Like Bichons I mean I wear so of them. I wear shorts, croptops (not to short just a little above the belly button). I dont see the problem. Its It's just when it's showing to much.
First world problems much
"we did a great job halal-ifying them"
idk why i just love the way she worded that
Irony is it's still not halal 😂
Lots of christian teens have been doing this for a long time...when I was a teen my prom was at a conservative Christian school and we had to be more modest like this too!
JustJessie yyyep! and we wear it for God, not for people
Interesting.
We need to do this because we are muslim amd we cant show our skin
Vanessa Leighton not what that means before you judge can you think? Open mind!
It’s a choice like the head scarf! It meant to show being humble and mature graceful as well and to make a point of the HUGE fact that women don’t need to show skin to be hot and chic unlike most teens who wear denim thongs and call them shorts like child I can SEE your arse hole form a mile away why do they wear that?! Enlighten me on YOUR reason people wear crop tops, short shorts and sluty dresses just to please society!
Steaming hot Trash Atleast they don't have to hide their faces in order not to get raped on the street.
Wow. I come from a strict Muslim family and prom was just never an option so... 😂😂😂😂
just another incident where religion (doesnt matter which one) killed an exciting, peaceful, wonderful experience for your memory lane. how sad!
onemonkeys just another ignorant person thinking they know everything about the religion
How sad!
onemonkeys the religion doesn't forbid it its just how strict your parents are
onemonkeys Islam does not state anything about not having fun. That was her parents choice. That's common sense but you clearly lack it.
I read the title of this video and me being a Muslim myself I was really excited to watch the video I was excited to see how the girls would accommodate for the fact that they're wearing a hijab like finding a dress that would match their hijab but this video just seemed like a bunch of regular teen girls finding a dress that would cover them properly
INFIRES MAN YEAH
Always a Potterhead well if you read the Quran it said you should cover yourself and wear a hijab to be modest as a proud Muslim woman. I strongly believe that if you are Muslim you should cover up and wear a hijab because when you don't you are receiving unesscary sins that cancel out all the good you do but I wont go out and tell people they should be wearing a hijab. its you life you do what you want.
Infires... Maybe not related but ola my fellow Muslim army...infires
Infires... I thought they were going to match their hijabs with their dresses too xD and hello fellow army :)
army’s are everywhere oh god
I’m LDS(Mormon) and we dress very modest like them so I totally understand.
Mormon is a cult religion
kriss b i would suggest doing actual research. We are Christians and the last time I checked Christianity is not a cult it’s a belief. I thought in America we were all able to worship how we choose.
That floral skirt/gown is GORGEOUS!
I wish they brought girls or at least one girl would was wearing hijab. it just makes more sense to me to have a more diverse group with different needs. I saw the same issue in the video about high school girls who ladylike dressed up. Hijabi girls need to match scarfs to the dress and that could've been a fun part of the video, as well as scarf styles.
Not all Muslim girls need to wear hijabs.
Trinity Sims she's talking about the ones that do , they are some what left out of the video bc there aren't any that do wear them
Yes but real Muslims don’t go to prom. Because they’re good Muslims.
Ion Some do, some don't. If a muslim goes to a prom it doesn't mean they're bad
Shushu El In Islam its a haram event.
HAPPY EID FAM! 🎉🔥💯
Mei Abdullah Eid mubarak💕🎉
Tomorrow is the second eid :3 yay!!
Me: *In a store with my friends*.
They: *Tries on everything*
They: This looks great on you
Me: Ehh.. It's not appropriate for me :)
When we leave the store they buy bags full of clothes and I've left the store with only baggy jeans.
this is so late but relatable omg modest life
so... i have a 2:32 minute ad that i can't skip.
R.I.P...
rEAFRESH a bunch of times, it works (;
Uninstall.
Why the prom videos? It's almost July.
Isabelle Winston Doesn't have to be prom season 😉 I enjoyed the video
In the UK that's when we have prom
They film these months or weeks in advance it takes a while to edit and produce.
Isabelle Winston This is probably not the reason why but it's prom season now in the UK so it is quite useful for some.
Samirah Islam True, and there's way more Muslims in the UK as well, I used to be one.
Eid Mubarak
Sabit Wagad eid mubarak to u too from Maldives
muxu mizna thanks 🙏🏾

Eid Mubarak!

i thought thiss was gonna b on how to make/ find matching hijabs or something but they just picked dresses....
TheICEgirl6100 same
TheICEgirl6100 I actually hate you right now. YOU ACTUALLY THINK EVERY MUSLIM WOMAN IS GOING TO BE WEARING A HIJAB???? 😡😡😡😡 F U
Lily Zahran She’s probably a Muslim woman who wears a hijab, probably a teen girl looking for help.
Allah would not like you being so angry towards your sister. She has done nothing wrong.
Lily Zahran she might be looking for tips on how to match a hijab to a dress nicely. Prom season is upon us.
Lily Zahran whoaaa easy tiger!
Wut, where's the hack?
netted or veiled black shirts are a girl's best friend- that's what I got out of it
hantolrjr - they couldn’t where it since they were Muslims so they modified it
Hacking*^
One girl was wearing a maxi skirt over her dress and another was wearing a mesh long-sleeve shirt under her dress. That's the hack. Basically, they would have had to spend more money to feel comfortable with themselves and their religion.
the black shirt is the only thing i saw. the other two look like regular dresses, and i wouldnt consider them "modest". but you do you boo. i know there's stuff out there that's 100% sheer and cleavage everywhere so. to each their own.
Mormon girls everywhere relating hard amiright
This southern baptist girl does too lol
AMEN (dad's acc, sorry.) BUT LIKE WHEN PEOPLE QUESTION THE CTR RING AND U EXPLAIN AND THEY STILL DONT GET IT.
Totally!!
Ellie Duffy I think I just made a best friend immediately, the struggle is so real😂
Omg they are so freaking pretty! I really liked the white dress with the flowers! Really wavy😂😂
As a Mormon who went to prom the past few years, I can totally relate. It is ridiculous how there are so few options for modest prom dresses and other clothing items like swimsuits and shorts. Love that these brave girls stood up for their beliefs even though it's an unpopular opinion! ❤️
I myself am an atheist, but I absolutely adore the devotion shown by these girls to their religion. I think that it's a terrible misconception that the 'modesty' shown here is akin to 'oppression.' These girls have delightful personalities and are using their modesty to respect the things they believe in. That's all that matters.
Why specify Muslim though? Just call them teens like everyone else... I'm sure you wouldn't specify Christian teen or white teen...
Sarah Hobson they specified it to highlight a concern specific to this certain culture
Sarah Hobson Muslim girls tend to have a specific dress code, well not Dress code but they're conservative, which Is anything but we usually have available so the title is hinting they're looking for something modest and hard to find that fits their needs.
Okay Christians and Muslims are religious people but white teens really 😂😂
Sarah Hobson Its because muslims cant wear certain things
Just me aaaand? I'm catholic and I'm not allowed to wear certain things.
As a Christian who also chooses to dress modestly, I love videos like this. Not only do they show the struggle that women and girls of many religions go through when it comes to finding modest clothes, but they also bring about interesting conversations on modesty and decrease some of the stigma around it. As these girls, and many modest fashionistas exemplify, you can be modest without looking frumpy or old fashioned. I am glad that they found some cute, age-appropriate dresses and were able to make them work for them.
"As long as you know who you are and you know your beliefs, you'll be okay" - words to slay by.
I can actually relate to this so much despite having Hindu parents. When it comes to choosing dresses, my dad, particularly, places the same restrictions on me as the ones placed on the girls in this video. I don't even have the same kind of dresses as my cousins do because I only have dresses that cover my legs (they're not even real prom dresses; they're just long summer dresses). Oh well, I can get my own evening gown when I start working.
Also a problem for prom shopping for your catholic high school prom
Which is why you don't go to religious private schools...
Theft Tv which is why u leave ppl alone and let them do what they want.
I chose to go because it's a wonderful school. Sure the dress code is annoying but that didn't deter me from choosing my education.
try being a hijabi shopping in western malls... we have to add sleeves to everything... sometimes that ruins the design :(
Why do you have to do that? I mean, i know the justifications given, but why do you think you have to conform to this body policing?
+Mardas Man i've been wearing my hijab for a long time, i got used to it...it's like an extra limb... or something less weird :P
Mardas Man because that's what she believes...
OhheyitsSoumy i know riiightt!!
theres a girl at my school who i kinda know who wears a hijab and she adds sleeves and long pants to everything and she still looks pretty rad (i like when she wears the hijab with butterflies on it)
This is something I would totally wear, the sleeveless ones kind of show even too much skin for my liking. I'm not religious, I just don't like revealing clothes. I don't get the idea that women's formal wear needs to be revealing🤦♀️
That black and floral one was something that I would totally wear
literally same process being LDS and finding a prom dress
Or a wedding gown.....it's a nightmare! I loved that white prom gown though!
Didn't completely see the reason to use Muslim as a buzz word. Some muslims teens like myself don't necessarily look for dresses in this way. would've loved this video a lot more if it showed women wearing hijabs as it is harder to style mainstream dresses. All the respect to the girls, they still looked beautiful
Dana Raouf because I wear a hijab and really wanted to go to prom, I spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect dress completely covered and also a matching hijab. It was so hard to find all that that I had to miss prom because nothing was ever suitable. And that was this year
The black dress was sooooo cute!!!! I loved the added top! I wish I could pull something like that off
I loved the white one with the white mesh top and embroidery!!
* sees my prom dress in the video * 🙃
Yeah which one?
theyre all so pretty!! i hope they had a great prom
Omg, I need it 😆😂
"Halal-ifiying" that had me dead 😂😂
I love a dress I have. It's orange with big flower patterns on the skirt. Long skirt and long sleeve ofc. I match it with a beige hijab.
I can totally relate to y'all. I was looking for many months for a prom dress in stores that is long, has either long sleeves,3/4, or half sleeves and has a high enough neck line. Sometimes I thought 'omg I found the one😍' but then I would turn it around and... open back -.- . Or it would have a really long slit on the side or it was too tight.
Now I have one but I found it online.
Sorry if my English is incorrect I'm from Germany 🇩🇪
Yasmina Kannani I bought a halter prom dress that's blue and silver and just wore it with a really fitted long sleeve silver shirt underneath.
So this idea just popped in my head, what if we make like a prom shop with Muslim-appropriate dresses and those beautiful things they wear on their head (I'm so sorry I forgot what they're called). That'll be very cool. (I hope I didn't offend anyone
Cr3azyxGirls hijab, it's ok
Cr3azyxGirls oooooooo i love that idea!!! That is actually a really good idea, and plus it doesn't have to be for just 'Muslims', it can be for anyone who wants to look at least some what modest to their prom, or prefer dresses that are not too revealing!
Cr3azyxGirls that's so nice of you❤
It's called the hijab, the thing that is supposed to erase women in public is called a hijab, which is arabic for veil.
Hijab
Its called a hijab
I don't understand why people are getting butt hurt in the comments like I'm legitimately confused 😐
I only understand what that means from SuperWoman XD
Personally, I'm not butt hurt but saddened by what this video portrayed as acceptable on how muslims are able to dress and about the religion. And I'm not even mad at as/is, more disappointed in the girls for not representing their religion better. If they are gonna say they are muslim, that's great, but at least if you are gonna make a public video about it please make it accurate.
@@soaibanuzhat3820 Most South Asian Muslims don't even cover their head and are generally pretty liberal about it. I don't see how exposing some skin makes one any less of a Muslim. I feel you commenting and judging them when Allah is the only supreme judge, actually DOES make you a less of a Muslim in fact
I love how they put stuff together to make a look that was okay in their culture. All of their dresses were so fashionable and really nice looking. And can we see how beautiful all these girls are!
woahh I love this. I have the exact same struggle, having to make sure your legs, shoulders, chest etc aren't showing !!!! love this video :)
They all looked gorgeous in their dresses😍😍😍
“Halilifying it” 😂😂 I love that
absolutely beautiful dresses! and yes I think there is something to say for fancy dresses for younger adults/teens that are not to revealing and or to matronly looking, it's hard to find the right fit sometimes but you girls rock those dresses!!!
I'm muslim and if I would go to prom I would wear so the most beautiful dress I don't care if my skin was showing
I feel like I'm the only muslim that can actually wear prom dresses that show arms or are v neck or "revealing". Like at 18 I feel as your old enough to do as you please and wear what you want. I know many muslims will back lash, but to me growing up I never thought clothes were such a big deal. I mean we all have bodies. Why is it such a big deal to show a arm or a collar bone or etc.. I never understood that
Souraya but like don't you ever wonder why men aren't as covered as we are. Like they can be half naked and it's okay but women take the most of the time to be as covered as possible
baddyy.s a lot of Muslims wear this Kind clothes :D and yes wear what ever you want. It's not fair at all.
baddyy.s I wear modest clothes for myself not because my parents said so. As a Muslim parents guide you to a right path. By telling u not to wear revealing clothes is not only because of Islam but to be modest. Just cause u become an adult it doesn't mean ur parents say doesn't mean anything.
Joker Xx
Your parents' word can still mean something, but you don't always have to obey it. What she's trying to say is that it's okay to disagree with your parents and make your own decisions like this, especially since, you know, it's your body and stuff.
I feel grossed out when guys look at me in a sexual way even when I'm covered up... i don't even want to know what will happen if I'm half naked. Ew
they all look so beautiful!!! good on them for being fashion queens!!!
They are so pretty, dude I wish I was as pretty as them.
I would have loved if the girls were Muslim and wore a hijab because this just kind of feels like these could be any girls who just wanted to be more modest. Good concept tho!
Muslim girls can be modest by wearing long sleeves shirts, lose fitting pants, and neckline shirts. Whether or not a Muslim woman wants to wear a hijab is her choice.
Annika that comparison was just.. 😬
Anam Khan - the girl with the floral skirt would've slayed with a floral hijab and I'm not even Muslim. And bright red lipstick
Wearing a hijab is between you and god, which is why many Muslims have different things that they wear for modesty.
Anam Khan not every Muslim girl has to wear a hijab btw
we actually study in Pakistan so we dont have prom . The biggest event in our schools/colleges are farewell parties
Whaaat??? My cousin lives in Pakistan and she just had a prom!!
maybe in Lahore. Or maybe she was phrasing the 'farewell party' as if it were a prom. It's just a graduation send off. Depending on where you live and whether the school is co-ed, the male and female students may mix or may not mix. Still not exactly a prom though.
bee my cousin lives in Karachi, she goes to this school called Beacon House. She said they had like dates and those waltz and everything
Zaynab Farhan some schools do have proms and dates but it is a modified version of a farewell/graduation party
Fatimaa Lots of schools have prom here! I have cousins who have had gowns made for their prom and had prom shoots. We used to have a welcome party, farewell party, bonfire, Halloween etc but never called it prom. :)
That Macy's is really great and they work with programs that help give free prom dresses! I got my dress from there too. Also there should totally be more modest options for clothing, its one of the reasons winter is my fav season
Beauty is never about how much skin you show
I don't like how BuzzFeed makes Muslims so stereotypical.
it’s summer
Dee Dee 😂😂😂
alot of schools are still
in session rn especially in New York
This was pre-filmed
My prom is in two weeks
But I live in the U.K.
I love this. Refreshing to see girls dress modestly.
Oooo they look so beautiful in the final photos, LOVE the hair do of the girl in the white dress
For my 8th grade dance I purchase a dress from Macy's. And I am also Muslim and my parents would only accept some types of dresses. The dress was sleeveless and was long and sparkly at the bottom. So when the dress came we gave it to a tailor and he added sleeves.
The concept of this video is really confusing to me? Like, don't get me wrong, the dresses they ended up with were all beautiful and the girls looked completely stunning in them. But the tone was a little baffling...
They posed this like it's a minority issue. Like grappling with modesty is something only Muslim teens have to deal with. The dresses were gifted to the girls in the end, like a sort of peace offering. "We're sorry society is this way, hopefully this helps you out some." Which is a sweet thought, but when done in the context of them specifically being Muslims, I don't see how this is more of an issue for them than it is for anyone else?
There are so many other religions that call for modesty in dress, one of them being Christianity, which many people consider a majority in America. But, this isn't a Christian issue either. There are many nonreligious girls who for personal reasons may wish to dress more modestly. I know I felt insecure about my body in high school and looked specifically for dresses with high necklines and sleeves.
Like, I don't really have a problem with this video or anything. Like I said, the thought is sweet. It just seems really weird to pose this as like a difficulty only, or even mostly, Muslims struggle with.
Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Like, is there a reason to frame this as a Muslim-specific issue that I'm just not aware of?
so you're uncomfortable because this isnt about you?
The muslim dress code is a lot more strict. No shorts, no sleeveless tops, butt must be covered, your entire legs must be covered, no form fitting clothes, and a lot more depending on how religious the muslim is.
+Aribah Hussain I conform to all of the things you listed except that sometimes I show my legs up but not above the knee. I am a Christian. Hence Clarity's point.
Clarity CloudstheMind Well I agree. Nothing about the fashion in this video was in regards to Muslims specifically. It applies in general to all the girls who who want to dress modestly. To actually "Halalify" these dresses they should have been loose, not body fitting, not sheer, full sleeved and should also include a hijab.
Clarity CloudstheMind I agree. Obviously there is a lot of variety in how modest Muslim women choose to dress. For this particular video it just seemed like they chose girls who were all very moderate and not that different from the average teen who doesn't want to show too much skin.
THEYRE SO PRETTY OMLL
they all look so elegant and classy .
I can kinda relate. As a Apostolic Pentecostal we wear only long skirts and dresses with long and 3/4 length sleeve shirts and no cleavage so I just got used to layering 😂
Jenna_Unique14 same
Same
Those two words though
same but we wear skirts/dresses knee length, short sleeves no capped sleeves.
Jenna_Unique14 same, but i wear knee length dresses/skirts and we can't show shoulders
OMG...THIS WAS SOOOOOOO ME LAST YEAR
I love the black one so freaking much! Its beautiful!!
My prom is tomorrow and it is actually really hard to find a prom dress for somebody who wears a hijab like me. I had to go to multiple stores and still have to wear a short blazer on top of my gown to ensure that my arms are fully covered. The majority of the gowns available are either too revealing or have a big slit etc. There should be a clothing line of modest dresses available for everyone's use. Finding a prom dress is one of the hardest jobs ever.
Mormon girls and many other christians experience this too. This is nothing too out of the ordinary for a religious girl this day in age
