Awesome! That did the trick on my 2007 Mazda 3 driver side window that's been giving me fits for months (would go down perfectly but would take 3-10 minutes of pushing multiple buttons at the same time and finagling to go back up). Now it is working like a champ. You're a first class UA-cam Rockstar! Thanks very much!
Hey brother! I just wanted to say thank you! I have a 2009 Mazda 3 and this has been driving me nuts for over 3 years! Go through the drive thru and then can't get the window up until I got home....rained on...snow...grrr!! I knew it was a contact issue and i was just going to buy another module but I just followed your directions and it is working perfectly again! Thank you!
You are a saint, man! I own a 2007 Mazda 3 and have been having problems with my drivers window "up" switch for YEARS. I've learned to apply different kinds of pressure to the back of the switch while simultaneously pulling up on it, and have limped along this way for far too long. It got harder and harder and finally this week it gave up and I could not get my window to roll back up not matter what I did! So I found your video and did exactly what you said -- except I used a sharp new razor blade to cut the Q-Tip so it wouldn't be out of round too much -- and it worked!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to post this -- it saved my night/week/month!
I previously had issues with the rear window and was able to take everything apart and it was pretty obvious the contacts were dirty, but when the driver side stopped working I just couldn't figure out the issue, but you saved the day, Thank you so much for sharing this quick fix.
OMG!!! Rookie chick followed all the instructions, mine had 2 slots so I inserted 2 shims, and voila the window worked!! Thank you so much for that advice! I called Mazda 2 hours before and they said it would be a $365 part plus labour....Cheers!
Simply genius!!! This is such a great hack. I disassembled it like you showed in the video. I bought a Kobalt electronic torx kit much more $$ but well worth it and still saved me $$$$. THANKS!!!
Thank you for showing how to get this trim plate off, I assumed the entire thing was one assembly. Regarding the screwdriver method, I found something a bit easier and less likely to scratch/mar the switch trim plate edge and the door handle fixed portion below it. I used a paint scraper instead of a screwdriver, mine was used so much that the scraping edge has turned into a somewhat sharp blade. Since the tool has a beveled sharp edge and is rather hard steel (and wide), it slides between the trim plate and door handle assembly easier than a screwdriver with no sharp edges exposed to mar the switch plate or the door handle piece. Again, thanks so much for the video!
There are thin plastic and metal tools to open laptops, phones, etc. without causing damage. They're often called spudgers. You can sometimes improvise them with spatulas, wooden cuticle pushers, etc.
@@MorrisDugan I have took kits with spudgers but this particular plate needs more force to pop out than I felt comfortable using with a spudger. The plastic in the window switch trim plate was of softer plastic than most PC/cellphone plastics I've encountered. I thought I might damage the edge of the trim using a spudger. The clip portion holding the part in place is inset quite a bit, the scraper worked better in this particular instance.
@@thomasmathes5019 I found this video while looking for info on loose front windows, but I figured what's here is also worth knowing, since I'm going to have to open the inside panel. I have a few spudgers (both metal and plastic) and a thin metal putty knife, and probably a paint scraper or two somewhere, as well as tools I just got to remove trim clips. That should cover me for doing this and for opening the whole panel.
This worked excellently!! Thank you so much! I didn't want to buy a replacement switch as everybody online says they are crap. This is an amazing solution!
🗣YOU ARE THE FREAKIN MANNNN!!! I just did this today after seeing your video and did the exact same thing, OMG you know how many times I accidentally rolled the window down and couldn’t get it back up in the rain or cold and was clicking the mess out of that dang switch 😩😩😩, Your my MVP of the year for this one lol THANK YOU SOO MICH!!!
Just fixed my window on my 08 Mazda 3 after 2 years of not being able to roll it up consistently until it finally gave out the other day rolling back up… now it works perfect rolling up 👌🏽
I had to add the 2mm shim piece to the middle side bottom center spot that corresponds to the “up” button function to get it to engage properly. Not the outer side upper button as I interpreted from diagram in video. And my window now works after over a year! Feeling very satisfied! Thank you
Thank you so much! I have never been able to afford a mechanic, especially for anything not related to the actual running of the car, so I have always done repairs on my cars. I have done just about everything you can think of short of major internal engine repairs, so when I come across a play by play video, I appreciate the humdreds of dollars you just saved me and I will get the $5 Cobalt ratcheting screwdriver with the T6 fitting and do this myself!!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks man. Just bought an 07 3s. Didn’t act on test drive. Started on the way home half hour after transaction. But your video saved me $250. And it took less time that an oil change
The reason you’re plug doesn’t click in is cause you’re missing the outer plastic housing. It’s held in with the same screws as the board is held in. Thank you very much for the fix it worked on mine.
Great tutorial! I was having the EXACT same problem on my 2007 mazda 3, even down to twisting the switch and reaching over with my right hand. I ended up not using the shim. When i removed the rubber gasket, i noticed the contact you were referencing had some black lines on it. I cleaned both contacts with rubbing alcohol, put it back together, and it works like a charm! Wouldn't have figured it out without your video. Thank you! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, that is why I make videos. My electric connections were a little bit dirty as well, but it really needed the shim. I think over time the plastic rod compresses just a enough to require a little shim probably because when you are pulling up it puts more force on the back one then the front.
Rumnhammer I bet you are right. Luckily, mine just needed cleaning, but if it progresses further, i will know what to do. Auto part store quoted me $184, but you can find them cheaper online. But you can't beat a 5 min fix for $0 haha. Thanks again
Thank you I fixed mine too I put my finger over the button I barely have too touch the button works so good better than new .. your very smart of thinking of this fix just amazing
Thank you so much!!! Worked great. Had the same problem, always having to wiggle the switch and now the window goes up without any issues. Saved us a lot of money.
Hard to believe that the Q-Tip shim worked, but it worked. :) I have been having this intermittent problem for a couple of months and it always occurred when it's cold outside. There are other videos available discussing the same problem, but either they never fix it, or they fix it without knowing why. This was a positive solution that took me 30 minutes. Thank you! By the way, your switch assembly is missing a piece that holds the power plug in place.
I think they added the piece that holds the plug in later models, my car is a 2006 and I've seen later cars that had a different assembly altogether. Glad it helped you out.
IT WORKED!!! You saved me so mich money 192 for parts and peob 300 for labor...not to mention uotes in the hundreds for replacement motor when the peob cost 10 to fix...THANK YOU 👌
dude seriously the best!!! first I was like its not going to work and when i did it it didnt work but when i took it apart again i seen it wasnt in place good and when i out everything back together it was perfect!!! your such a king 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend lately =)
glad this helped. This is the main reason I make videos, just to help people out that have the same problem I have. If I can help them out especially if they can fix it themselves and save some money that is the best payment for me.
Worked like a charm, thank you. Spent literally nothing since I already had a T6 Screwdriver. Saved me a lot of headaches!(Also works for Mazdaspeed models too, I don't know about Gen two might be the same for them as well).
So you put the Q tip part in the rubber gasket thing? I tried it and it didn’t exactly work for me unless I did it wrong😅 but the disassembly part was super helpful thank you!
Benefited from the video, even though it's not exactly what i needed to be fixed. I could have gone to the mechanic and paid for the simple stuff. Thank you!
I have a 2016 Mazda CX5 and the drivers window won't work when the vehicle is cold. After the vehicle cabin is warmed up, it works ok. What part of the system would cause this malfunction?
Same problem I am currently having on my 2016 CX5. What did you do to repair your issue? My auto-down feature works at the start but slows down to a crawl when the window is halfway up or down…. mostly noticeable in cold winter weather.
Awesome! Literally took me 15 minutes to do. Thankyou for making this video! Been twisting that dang switch for 2 years!
just wanted to say thank you for putting this together and putting it on YT. fixed my 2008 mazda with your help. greatly appreciated!

Been dealing with this for a year, took 1.5 mins to fix… man i love you
One of the few videos on youtube that are actually really helpful
Worked great. Whole operation took about 1.5 hours. Thanks. Saved a bundle on a new part.
Simply genius!!! This is such a great hack. I disassembled it like you showed in the video. I bought a Kobalt electronic torx kit much more $$ but well worth it and still saved me $$$$. THANKS!!!

This worked amazingly well! I had to buy the more expensive mini driver set that they sell at Home Depot, but I'll take a 10 dollar fix over 200!
Got the T6 torx driver and followed the steps, window works again 👍 Great vid

Thank you for the fix! it worked great and took only 10 minutes. If I only did this months ago!
Thank you it worked like a charm...need to make sure it is a 2mm piece of Q tip shaft. Anything longer will not work....cheers
Oh man, you are a legend! Thanks so much for this. It worked and saved me so much cash!
