I've seen these expensive so called antennas at Target and Walmart and just roll my eyes at the notion they promise HD picture quality, it's all BS you can get a cheap antenna from a Big Lots or Dollar Tree and it gives you all the major networks and their sister channels anyway.

It's not the antenna. It's the ATSC 1.0 system that replaced analog (NTSC) in 2009.
The new ATSC 3.0 system is supposed to have a much stronger signal.
