I lost interest in star wars and disney ages ago so hearing about a celebrity being an entitled brat isn't new. What does interest me is how people still obsess over watching entitled rich people play make believe.
Glad I watched your video. I'll keep an eye out for more on my feed. You are right about gratitude when you, as a creator, gets to be noticed and seen by others. I was actually trying to figure out who the video was for... it was obviously sexual in content, but she was complaining about men watching her show.
Modernism Always Kills Everything [M.A.K.E]. These spoiled brats have no education, have even dumber family members who despite being rich, are clueless as hell. 2 decades of stupidity and narcissism. Hollywood does that to people since they sell their soul before they sell the product.
Your video was well thought out, and you make some very good points -- in this case, about the pointlessness of what Amandla's little music video is and what little impact it will have. Your whole detailed points were well said! I'll subscribe to hear more.
I feel like she’s poisoned the well right off the bat by just assuming the worst about the people criticizing the show. She seems to have forgotten that criticism does not equal attack and that it’s a necessary thing in growing as an entertainer or artist or writer.
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 Exactly. And I’m sure that some of it was worded very, very poorly. And it’s always difficult to look back at your own work objectively. But it’s a part of the process, too. And bordering on the best way to grow your talent. Looking back and seeing, “oh, maybe they have a point! I should take another look and make some changes!”
First of all, I had no idea she released a music video. But right after I watched the video, it doesn't seem to be about star wars at all. The same way race or gender is not the problem with the acolyte. The problem is bad writing and storytelling.
I think the contrast between how today's Disney Wars "stars" and how Hayden Christensen handled crictism of his Anakin Skywalker performance is a very big reason why Hayden is so beloved by Star Wars fans today. He stayed classy through the adversity, and now is is just as much as Star Wars icon as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. And if these young "artists" think they have it bad, talk to Jake Lloyd!
Or Ahmed Best (Voice of Jarjar Binks). He got boatloads of hate mail in which he was called every anti- black racist slur known to man and received several death threats. At its worst point, he seriously considered self- deletion, but thankfully managed to pull himself back from that abyss. I'd say those people's treatment of Ahmed Best is what REAL "Toxic fandom" looks like: People using their fandom to try and justify crossing the line from mere criticism into acting in genuinely cruel, unacceptable ways towards an actor simply for playing a role in a movie that someone else wrote. Pampered brats like Amandla Stenberg haven't experienced anything even remotely close to that.
@@vitormenezesdemattos967 I just found a Variety article from 13 March of this year that interviewed his mother. She says he's 10 months into an 18 month stay at a mental health rehab facility to treat his schizophrenia, though he did also spend 10 months in jail back in 2015 after leading police on a high speed chase.
Amandla is not very self aware beyond the surface level. She's probably ruined a whole range of future opportunities and will be relegated to small niche roles that reflect her activism.
I think the fact that she took the time out of her day to write, play, record, edit and release the diss track towards the "haters" of the show goes to show the level of narcissism she's living under. If you are a creative, regardless of which medium (music,tv,film, art, literature) you are not ABOVE criticism or exempt from it! Sure, there are people who will troll, but as the rules of the internet state: Don't feed the troll The more fuel you throw onto the fire, the more you stoke the inferno. Lots of people criticising the show should have been a wake up call and a call to self reflect. But if someone believes they can do no wrong, that they are always a victim and being oppressed just because of their gender/skin color/sexual orientation or whatever they are lost already. Because any negative or critical comment is taken in as a personal attack rather than being directed towards the show just being bad and the audience (remember, the people who are actually paying you!) not wanting something like that, not to mention how it goes into a vicious cycle (creating woke propaganda in the show>it being negatively recieved and bashed>it being seen as a sexist minority/personal attack>creating more woke propaganda) until the money well dries out. And yes,i fully agree with you. Being an artist is a privilege, which some of these people do not realise...instead being so in love with themselves and thinking themselves above others and just so much better, when in reality they just had a better hand dealt and a sprinkle of luck to make it as big as they did.
She said it took her 72 hours to make this ... thing... That's not just time out of her day, that's time out of 3 days and proves that she does, in fact, care what the critics are saying to spend _that much_ time on this when she could have just made a 30 second TikTok/UA-cam Short to get the same point across.
Trust me everyone when I say, this girl is not happy. She's making this so called "diss track" because she's the one crying inside, and is dying to have someone join her. Don't give in to this manipulation. & Great video!!
Lemme get this straight. She created a song, copyrighted the song, created a music video based on the song, copyrighted the video, set up lawyers to go after anyone showing the video all within three days time. Wow. She must be Jesse Quick. 😂
Yes, there are racist fans, of course. But the majority of people who don't like Acolyte don't like a number of other Disney SW projects for the same reason: for being shit.
She sent out this MV with such confidence that everyone would think she was this oppressed artist from the mean streets of Chicago that had a super rough childhood. As if the internet wouldn’t know her rich Danish father pretty much fast tracked her career,
She is basically a Kid. She simply doesn’t have the maturity yet. And I think that kind of speaks to a larger problem. She is still young, but there are many adults I feel never actually did grow up. They are still following their passions and doing things primarily for themselves, while others learn to control their passions and listen to them and let them go only when appropriate; and start to focus on what they can do for others, their role in society.
No, you are wrong, Mr Storyteller. Amandla was given the role because of Headland fancying her. She did not have to endure casting like any of you normal folks. She was given the opportunity to play the double lead in the most expensive franchise just due to her looks... And from this point of view, yeah, she deserves this! Her father struggled as a Danish guy (the Danish had colonies, by the way) and Amandla just demands what should be hers forever, it's that simple. The Danish were pushed down for 400 years and they should finally rise again! Hail identity politics!
Also strong chance that Headlamp(her former associate was a predator after all) asked for sexual favors from her for the role(since they are both lesbians but one is actually attractive)
I find gay and black representation harder to “believe” as authentic when I’m just seeing someone who looks like me succeeding at everything they do. Characters with nothing to relate to besides success, which feels more like watching the rich and famous pat themselves on the back for their art. I feel the criticism she received for Rue was unfair, as Rue was black and Amandla played her fairly well as a child and did not deserve the racial hate she received so young. There’s many movies like Beasts of No Nation and Bound I consider to both be diverse and have amazing characterization and performances. I don’t see that with the Acolyte, which is a shame. But I see that with Rue.
I recently looked up the career of Ida Lupino. I'm a Baby Boomer from the era of B&W TV. One show I liked was about a couple of B actors in Hollywood called "Mr Adams and Eve". Ida Lupino, despite the name, was English. She wanted to be a scriptwriter. Since she was pretty people advised she become an actress, too. She moved to California and changed her accent. Finally she got her break. She was a scriptwriter on a film that had started filming when the director got so sick he would be out for a couple weeks. She stepped up and said she could direct -- and did. She wrote and directed and acted in a lot of men's films like "The Sea Wolf" with Edgar G. Robinson. She did a feminist film about rape. She did the first version of the suspense film "The Hitcher" which has gone thru 2 remakes.
As a one from Denmark I do apologies.. if you take danish celebrities like Lars Ulric or Lucas Graham or this young lady here.. you can see that they have a reputation for being very arrogant and narcissistic.. and one of the reasons is .. The Law of Jante which is from a danish novel about close society where one of the rules is.. you shouldn’t believe you are something.. and even if you can disuse if it’s true it is a thing.. there is a lot of celebrities in our country which gets successful in other countries especially USA.. they can have a believe that they are better than others because of The Law of Jante .. luckily we also got Viggo Mortensen so there are of course difference from the rules or something like that…!
That's really intresting. I have a sister who lives in Denmark. She was telling me about how the actress Brigette Nielsen claims she has forgotten how to speak Danish! As a result the Danes don't like her very much. I've been to Denmark myself, you have a very beautifull country. I had a great time there. The fireworks in the Tivoli Gardens were Brillant! Thank you for your countries hospitality.👍
Worlds colliding. I never would have thought this would end up on your channel. I admit, I am pretty much more interested in the UA-cam drama around this show than the show itself at this point. The problem with Amandla is that she inhabits a place of enormous privilege. She comes from a rich family. She has worked in Hollywood all her life. A $180 million show was literally created around her casting according to the show runner. She is not the person to discuss how oppressed she is just because a project is flopping. It's insulting to . . . well, 99% of the population who do not have her privilege. And can we discuss the people around her who let this happen? No one said, "Absolutely not" when they saw it. Are her friends sabotaging her? There was no one in her life who took one glance and told her how damaging this would be. Either they're too dependent on her to say no, or she's too self-involved to take the criticism. Either option is a bit depressing when you think about it.
In particular, her as a wealthy biracial person whining about racial oppression she has supposedly faced and calling any criticism of her "Intolerable racism" is despicable. If she wants to see what REAL "Intolerable racism" against blacks looks like, she should meet and talk to a black person who lived through segregation and was raised in poverty. Maybe she could hear from one of the witnesses/ survivors of the 1963 Birmingham church bombing, if any of them are still around today.
I will say, there ARE people on social media who are racist, sexist and just not good people in general that will criticize any property for any reason. The Acolyte criticism is no different in that regard. However, it should not be used as a deflection against actual problems with the show.
Yes. Of course. There will always be people who are malicious on all sides for all causes, that doesn’t make such a broad claim accurate though. At least I don’t think so
You know I was a little worries this was you begining to veer into more politicised content (which I think there is just a little too much of) but I'm very glad to report that you handled this topic gracefully. I can see a lot of effort went into creating something that would truly represent a unique viewpoint (quite diplomatic too). I'm glad you are still approaching everything from an artistic/philosophical lense. I agree with your points about less words. I always apply the famous chess quote of "if you think of a move, sit on yiur hands and think of a better one" to words - especially for people in the public eye, they have an even greater responisbility because their words have an even greater reach. I myself am not one to usually comment so much but I have been recently and that's because I see the channel is starting slow and I really just want to encourage you to keep going and creating this kind of nuanced content. I loved the old channel but this is quickly becoming my favourite. I was going to suggest changing the thumbnail for this video to make it reflect your tone a little more...but perhaps it is up to the viewers to hear you out or not. Anyway this video has given me some food for thought (and that last comment made me giggle🙂).
Thank you so much!!! This means the world to me! I really have been trying not to just be another voice screaming in the void, and the fact that some one can notice and appreciate that, makes all the effort worth it.
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 umm....not entirely sure..but definately something without any one actor's face. Maybe like an old fashioned painting of Narcisus? The greek myth. That's pretty niche I know. Otherwise something else you like - a landscape or bookshelf or something nuetral that allows the video's tittle to speak for itself. You can leave the NARCISSISM overlay, but the picture I think really links it to the more political and critical channels. Hope that helps😊 Just the big sister in me kicking in😂🙈
1:57-2:03 Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with the other points made in this video, I definitely agree with this point. Just because people give you a platform to say whatever you want doesn’t mean you should.
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 Well, I think that when it comes to speaking out on issues, I don’t think we shouldn’t say anything at all. If you’re really passionate about an issue and want to address it, by all means, you should, but be careful how you do so. I think the people who worked on this show have a decent intention of wanting there to be more representation in this famous universe, but they don’t need to be condescending about it, which is kind of the vibe I get from some of the comments they’ve made.
I get the feeling that she actually thinks she's blazing some sort of trail...like she's in the same category as any number of civil rights leaders of the past. However, there is a monumental difference between her and said civil rights leaders of old. Unlike Amandla, they didn't go around pretending to make some sort of difference by playing the victim, and talking about themselves all the time.

I’m certainly considering it, but I don’t wanna make any promises yet! I really appreciate you saying that! I hope to see your around this new channel!
Anything Disney Wars is just trash so... It's not about race. It's about the fact that Disney makes a bad pastische of star wars and gets away with it because of diverse, if tokenistic, casting.
james maturely asks why Amandala does this. An easy an obvious answer is she's 25. Who among us was truly emotionally mature at 25. I know I wasn't. Now I don't disagree with James, but we also have to remember to give young people grace. Just because they are growing and maturing in public doesn't mean it's any less difficult. Just a thought
100%. Which is why this video is not about hating on her. I’ll be honest, I considered mentioning her youth (because I looked it up), but decided against it because it felt wrong to do so being only 22 myself.
25 isn`t that young anymore and you can't write that off to "young and dumb" anymore really. Otherwise at which point can you be held accountable of your own actions? Is it 30? 40? 50? 60? She is over 18 and is incredibly priviliged grown up sheltered with a lot of opportunities and with very very rich parents. So either she has to find new management to actually give her good advice or it`s totally her fault. Also she doesn`t sound like she learned anything to actually help her mature.
Jesus Christ I hate when people use age as an excuse for shitty behavior she’s a 25 year old grown ass woman people younger than her have had to step up to much larger plates than just getting some criticism and they don’t get the excuse of being “young and dumb” when they fuck up they get real world consequences so why would anyone give this spoiled brat any type of lenience when she wouldn’t do the same for you
And, just continuing my deep personal thoughts), then maybe, just mb, Disney's have to change their minds about this situation eventually. I'm not shure really it will, and that's make me sad, but i still cherish a hope
I don't think a UA-camr should be lecturing an actor on narcissism. At least the actor has a skill set that they use to entertain people, UA-camrs usually don't have a skill or talent other than running their mouth.
Fair enough, but isn’t that the same as journalism? Or a newscaster? I was actually thinking about that, and what I came to was that there is some gray area when it comes to commentary. I’m not saying I know, and I’m certainly not lecturing. I’m commenting on it, on a platform that everyone has the access to comment on. Approaching from a perspective of expression of thought as opposed proclamation or what NEEDS to be true. Idk, it’s an interesting conversation.
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 The problem that I have is that there seems to be a lack of empathy for Amandla Stenberg. The narrative is that she is entirely in the wrong and she needs to learn how to better control herself but the people making racist comments and taking her remarks out of context don't have to do anything. Look, I'm not saying you have to like her or her vid nor am I saying you have to endorse everything she ever said or did. But to claim that she's a narcissist and because she rich that mean she should just be silent and take it, is deeply problematic. I get it, she's a celeb it comes with the job, but this isn't just about her, it's about how certain people are treated in the pop culture space compared to others.
Wait, I think Thai specifically is just about her, and I think that by the video she made it that way. Like I said in the video, her stopping to their level, poisons the well of constructive discourse. I know people are dunking on her and that’s the nature of the internet. My point was more that if someone throws a tantrum, what they are complaining about necessarily will be less of a focus because their behavior is reprehensible. I don’t think she should shut up and can’t ever comment. It’s a complicated issue. I wonder if a lot of it is just what it means to be famous. People make nasty comments when you put yourself in the public eye. It should be recognized as wrong, but it’s such a strange and human phenomenon, that I’m not sure there’s a way to rectify it. It’s just like hate comments on UA-cam. Once again though, the reason I think she’s getting so much push back, is that the way she went about responding demonstrates clearly she didn’t really care about rectifying the situation. And that’s I think the main issue.
I don't think a commenter should run their mouth on a UA-camr…….lol. Regardless, it's important to hold people(Amanda) in a position of power or a public platform to influence millions accountable for the messages and values they are spreading. Amanda is gaslighting her critics on the show's writing by making it about her race and identity. She would understand that if she was less self-absorbed.
@@elypearl826 Commenters? That is a genorous way to put it. No, she is NOT gaslighting her "critics" by debunking lies that was said about her by bad faith actors.
0:49. Was this actually what was shown in whatever episode this is from? So, like, apparently, 200 years before the prequel era, lightsaber blades were made out of lighted plastic tubes capped off with a rubber cane tip from CVS? Could they not have spent like $500 getting some nerd with Gimp to rotoscope this?
Greetings... I am one of the extremely few privileged writers to have a contract and my Tolkiensque novel series is going forward, first release Dec/Jan . It is a wonderful thing, which I have been working towards for over a decade and I will not take it for granted. Now about Amandla... A half caucasian child of socio-economical privilege who has been getting praised by professionals since she was 4, is the very picture of ego driven ignorance. An all too common trait in America these days. She was the perfect casting choice for Lesley. She checks off so many DEI boxes to be ignored (after all who cares about her talent with all of those check marks) She appears Black and female [check & check], between 2016 and 2018 she was bisexual, pansexual, non binary, and finally a lesbian [check, check, check, check]. So how can she lose? oh yeah, by doing this.
She oppressed guys, they didn't have Mango Izze for her in her air conditioned trailer, while people did her hair and make up fullfilling the obligations of her multi million dollar contract to play make believe in front of a camera. You dont understand her struggle.
not an artist, not a singer, not an actress... unfortunately life is easy for crying baby. I wonder how she gt where she is without saying yes in exchange of you know what
what even funnier is that, someone has already make a video about the diss track, not because of Amandla wokeness, but how out of tune the music is, and how the lyric is sound like asthma patient trying to curses
Amandala Stenberg just enforces the criticisms levied against her, rather than ignoring them and doing her own "artist" thing. By doing her "diss track", she is lowering herself to the worst of the racists and sexists. Amandala is a very surface level "artist" who says gibberish that she thinks is profound. Of course, her defenders will create their own word salads to justify her word salad.
Well, I do think that’s slightly different since they are not claiming it’s art. Often, they are commenting on an issue, which they have every right to do. Commentary is not a skill based thing as much as it is a human thing.
Calling her an "artist" seems to be a bit of a stretch...in terms of appeal, charisma, likability , and morality....shes the exact opposite of Keanu Reeves
The search for meaning in your life when you come from wealth & privilege and see yourself as superior to others is a struggle most of us will never know. We must be compassionate to those who pretend for a living. lol.
Wait a minute.....yall are on this app judging her because she's expressing her feelings and made a song about it?? Who are you to tell anyone how to navigate their own life experiences, feelings and career?
I think that if you make a public statement like this, then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with commenting on it and it’s cultural significance. That’s what this video is about
I think you said it best, being a celebrity is a privilege and entertainers are lucky they have ppl out there that wanna PAY for her talent. NOT that she's owed this prestige. Unfortunately, the life of a celebrity can, and will go to the head of the wrong person. Aaaaaaaand UNFORTUNATELY, there's a LOT of wrong people in Hollywood 😂🤦🏽♂️
Such a well thought, and spoken video I think this is the second time I say that phrase in a short period of time but once again is true There is so much in You Tube regarding this topic, and whatever I agree, disagree, enjoy or not, most of it, it doesn't mean that sober, well explained ideas like what you presented just now, are not less enjoyable
Thank you so much. I really strive to make genuine, sensible content, so it’s cool to see that some people are enjoying it. Hope you stick around and I’ll keep the videos coming :).
Yes I agree Video is cringe very distasteful like you said a rant but the video based 2018 interview she had with Trevor Noah promoting her movie back then the hate you give bout a white cop killing a black boy for no reason and she was saying making white people cry meaning white people should have empathy look at black people as human beings so the old clip of that resurface the internet didn’t like when she said make white people cry so they made comments and she got mad so she clapping back reason she made this video didn’t has nothing to do with Acolyte show
Star Wars was a great story to begin with, the first three movies were fun, masterfully told space opera, but the second trilogy and the modern versions are just annoying junk, for the most part, and have been degenerating for decades. I loved the triad of Luke, Leia and Han Solo. Lucas destroyed his universe when he tried to give a medical (Midi-chlorians ) explanation for a purely metaphysical concept - the consciousness of the entire universe, itself, pantheism: The ONE that is ALL. The Tao, Prana/Chi, God. Actors and Actresses may have always been twats, (remember what Shakespeare said in his plays, and, he should have known) I suspect it is just a fact of existence, but we didn't need to know that about them because we were mercifully spared the facts behind the facades. She's just a kid fascinated with her own body and fame, She's been given an incredible opportunity in life, she doesn't seem to understand that or that she should be grateful that people are critiquing her show. It could be far worse, people could just shrug and watch old TV shows. From what I've seen of the clips, she's not event that good of an actress. She will self destruct soon enough. I think her video is a symptom of wider problem in all of society.
All everyone’s are self proclaimed…technically. But, I think there’s certainly been a shift when it comes to social media and there’s some clear demonstration of that reality when you can show both success and skill in a given field.
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 no, not “all everyone’s” self proclaimed. What, he’s a doctor because he proclaimed it? Point is, when you have titles that are driven by perspectives and interpretations, this is what you get. Love it or hate it, it’s just the new world, and it’s just the beginning.
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 I dont buy into sweeping generalizations. There are standards for titles. Artist is indeed a title. However what sort of "artist" is up to interpatation. THere are levels of skill in these titles. The title itself is objective, how good the level is subjective as far as art goes, to point

By completely ignoring the racism she’s dealt with since she was the in the hunger games this video comes out as simply tone policing. “You aren’t being the right victim”
Ok. Well, I suppose that one way to frame it. I don’t think simply because youve been wronged you have a license to act/react any way you want. That never been the case in the world at large and being a good person constitutes your “reactions” to those around you and the example that sets. But I’m open to learning more about this. What racism has she faced?
@@TheStorytellersGuild1 she made a music video, she didn’t hurt anyone. Demanding people stay quiet while they are faced with bigotry is silly. When hunger games came out, even though rue is black in the book, fans were saying that a black actress being rue makes her death not as sad, that a black actor runs the character. People were also calling a 13 year old at the time the n word. I agree that being wronged isn’t a license to behave in any way you want. Amandla is not very self aware beyond the surface level. She's probably ruined a whole range of future opportunities and will be relegated to small niche roles that reflect her activism.
Netlfix is hiring... 😂
Sure, there are people who will troll, but as the rules of the internet state: Don't feed the troll
The more fuel you throw onto the fire, the more you stoke the inferno.
@@Dargonhuman well said mate
Trust me everyone when I say, this girl is not happy. She's making this so called "diss track" because she's the one crying inside, and is dying to have someone join her. Don't give in to this manipulation. & Great video!!
Lemme get this straight. She created a song, copyrighted the song, created a music video based on the song, copyrighted the video, set up lawyers to go after anyone showing the video all within three days time. Wow. She must be Jesse Quick. 😂
Yeah, it seems kinda crazy.
It's almost as if she had a giant corporation backing her... Hmmm. 🤔

Extremely plausible.
If Lucasfilm can fire Gina Carano, can they fire her as well?

I think they have.
I think she should be ignored. Completely. Which is the opposite of what's happening now.
Dont worry, people like her always falls into obscurity soon enough.
The criticisms must really hurt her in such a deep level for her to put so much effort into a diss track.
She also directed the 'Twilight Zone' episode "The Masks," which remains my undisputed favorite episode of that series.
Cluster-Bs gonna Cluster-B.
How do u think I should change the thumbnail? Cause I don’t want people to get that impression.

I appreciate that. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the rest of the video.
Yeah, I wasn’t saying you should say anything at all. I was just saying we should stop and think more about that
I get the feeling that she actually thinks she's blazing some sort of trail...like she's in the same category as any number of civil rights leaders of the past. However, there is a monumental difference between her and said civil rights leaders of old. Unlike Amandla, they didn't go around pretending to make some sort of difference by playing the victim, and talking about themselves all the time.

Subscribed because of this Video. Great Words!!
james maturely asks why Amandala does this.
She's almost 30. I knew at 25 to keep politics and ideology out of my professional career.
Jesus Christ I hate when people use age as an excuse for shitty behavior she’s a 25 year old grown ass woman people younger than her have had to step up to much larger plates than just getting some criticism and they don’t get the excuse of being “young and dumb” when they fuck up they get real world consequences so why would anyone give this spoiled brat any type of lenience when she wouldn’t do the same for you
She's 25, in entertainment all her life. She's learned that you're rewarded for this behavior

Her video is about as cool as Mussolini in spats.
All artists are self-proclaimed…
All everyone’s are self proclaimed…technically. But, I think there’s certainly been a shift when it comes to social media and there’s some clear demonstration of that reality when you can show both success and skill in a given field.
