ABOUT SANFORD AND SON: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

If you're feeling down; watch Esther and Fred go at it. You'll laugh so hard you have to feel better. It's pure comedic medicine!
Yes it is. 4-5-2022
What you said! I love this show even to this day. I have no problem binge watching it. Especially the episodes with Fred and Esther😂🤣
It's helped me with Covid, bless Esther and Fred!❤🙏🤣
Yeah there were hilarious, although I feel Martin vs Pam were funnier.
Funny you should say that; I love the show for its comedic brilliance, but it is also a tonic for me if I feel down.
Desmond Wilson in the background trying not to bust out laughing ..... he was in the presence of comic legends, and apparently enjoying it 😁
At one point he did a spit take when he burst out laughing!
That laughter was real, and off the script.

She was actually nice looking. They really made her look rough in the series.
Anybody remember when Fred told Aunt Esther, "I could stick your face in some dough and make gorilla cookies"??? Classic comedy!! 😂😂😂😂
Yes, I am still on the floor laughing.
Yesss I loved that one😂😂🤣🤣
He also said one time that he could stick her head in the freezer and make some ugly sickles..lol.
The studio audience reaction to that was unreal. It seemed like they were laughing forever.

Aunt Esther: "She had the nerve to call us witches. Fred: "And she was right, you 3 ugly witches and you married your husbands and turned them into frogs." I can't! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Fred's response to Esther has to be one of the best lines not only in this entire series, but in the history of television sitcoms.

This is perhaps my favorite scene from a classic comedy. Watching what passes for comedy now makes me want to cry instead of laugh. The comedic chemistry between Lawanda Page and Redd Foxx is on a supernatural level. Between the "three ugly witches" and Woody being dragged off by his ear, this scene doesn't miss a beat. The funniest show ever on television.
@@donschmidt8203 You described that scene perfectly! It was and is comic genius!
@@donschmidt8203 Well said. As much as it was a smash hit, it so underrated as among the GOATS among funniest TV Comedies ever on American TV. While shows such as "All in the Family" "I Love Lucy" nd Mary Tyler More rightfully belongs in any "top 5" list of funniest shows ever, got to say this. IMO it is a crime that later shows such as "Seinfeld" and" Friends" are also on that list among most TV Industry Historians & Commentators/Analysts. While Senfeld and Friends was also great shows in their own right, this legendary one blows them away IMO. And further proof that the 1970's/early '80's will always be the "Golden Age" and Best ever for American TV.

Sanford and son will NEVER get old to me. I laugh just as hard today watching these episodes as I did years ago. Aunt Esther and Fred are memorable CLASSIC. 😂😂😂
I really do appreciate them more as an adult. I was very young when it first came on and ended; I remember and like the spin-off simply called Sanford. When I go back and rewatch these episodes, I can see exactly why the show was so popular and vaulted both Redd Foxx and LaWanda Page into iconic comedic status! May everyone who was part of this show who have passed rest in peace!
@@DarlingNikki2 Your comment was very sweet. I'm glad you appreciate the show as much as I do. I've watched Sanford and Son from the very 1st show that aired in 1972 to the last show that ended in the late 70's of course I was a kid myself back then. But I still have just as much appreciation for those sitcoms now as I did way back when. Fred and Esther made that show iconic which is why even today, I still enjoy watching it.
The funniest to me was Fred in the courtroom. You wouldn't hear rhat today.
@mkl62 The courtroom scene is one of my favorite scenes. They did the clean scene and then the scene where Fred used the "N" word. I laugh every time I see either.
There were several times that he said the N word. And each time, it was hilarious. Redd Foxx was going to say what he wanted no matter who it offended.@@lexdee523

As serial TV comedies go, NO one ever takes commands of scenes in episodes better than "Aunt Esther" (yes, beloved LaWanda Page). It's no wonder why Redd demanded that the Queen of comedy be on HIS show!
Redd Foxx and lawanda page were childhood friends in st. Louis.
Before Aunt Esther, there was Aunt Ethel (Beah Richards), but her demeanor was too nice, so she was morphed into Aunt Esther.
