1:13 you are not telling people the truth. When the head is torque down on the block. The cylinders supported by the head. Honda K engines are open deck blocks and everybody know these are strong engines.
Take a look at your typical garden hose. Now, turn it on full. See how much water comes out? Yeah, you can poke a LOT of water throw small holes, especially when you are actively pumping the stuff, at pressure.
Forgot the EJ22T used on the North American legacy SS from 90-94. Its closed deck, Also might be the only factory motor with oil squirters from Subaru. Note: the Ej22T did NOT come with a factory intercooler.
from what i read it's rare to find a wrx with a factory closed deck engine. is that true? i know none of the new ones are closed deck. what's the point of producing a so called rally car with a weak open deck motor. i know you can sleeve it but yeah who has time for that
IAG performance sells their own closed deck in north america. they offer various stud options. many performance oriented shops throughout the US that can handle the machine work and install. Be picky about who tunes the car.
if your still looking into a closed deck also give outfront motorsports a call down in the southern california area. thats where i got mine at 0 issues and we beat it to hell and back
Just a question, I own a 2002 forester in which I just replaced the clutch. I hear a rattling sound that stops when I sink the clutch pedal. The mechanic says to give it 500 miles for the clutch to break in. Is that normal? It never made a sound before.
Hi Brett, for an ej255 in my 06 wrx, would a set of forged pistons and supporting mods be capable of 350 horsepower or more? If so for how long will it last approximately?
This car has now done 260,000 km, the last 110,000 with this engine with occasional track day. Broken a few swaybar links in the dirt, hit a kangaroo and needed a new wiring loop, but the engine has not had a single problem.

Subaru should have these come closed from factory. I'd so buy a brand new sti if it did but why buy a new car only to have to do engine work.

Why don’t you guys use IAG blocks? They’re machined perfectly and avoid removing inserts to take the engine apart?

I have forged internals and valves std size in my ej25 with piston head comp. Ratio 9.8-1 what thickness metal head gasket recommend? 7.8,1.1,1.5 mm?
Now is that using stock sleeves just better supporting them? Or do you do aftermarket sleeves and closed deck?

350hp at the engine yes... Recommended to go with E85, and a 11mm or 12mm oil pump!
too bad you don't have a legit closed deck block EJ. like the EJ22T closed deck from a 91-91 turbo legacy usdm....i have owned 9 of em.

These are only good if you increase oil passages. Close decking with stock oil ports will eventually fail.
