Ha! I remember taking pillow cases trick-r-treating, wearing those horrible plastic masks that made your face sweat, held on by that rubber band that always pulled your hair and wound up breaking before the night was over. The joys of being a kid in the '80s. 😄
Saw Gremlins in the theater in 1984. Had the large Gizmo figure (along with the Yoda hand puppet) The Gremlins cereal did have a catchy jingle..."Gremlins, Gremlins, bite after bite...What a way to satisfy...a Gremlin's appetite (And yes, I did actually remember it w/o looking it up on UA-cam...
I remember having a few Gremlins (first movie) trading cards and the put them in water things and watch them grow. It brought two of them, one was Gizmo and the other was Stripe.
Whew talk about a throwback! I saw the movie in theaters in ‘84, and had everything from the lunchbox to *almost* EVERY toy and stuff you shown! All gone now, but I still have a picture with the big gremlin I had, holding it. It’s arms broke off, but my dad (rip) glued them back on and I still played with it. Good times.
i had a square shaped picture book from somewhere? of Billy meeting Gizmo and i ordered the Gremlins movie novel? rectangular book with words inside from the school book order form
Dude, you did the whole of the video without pressing record. Ouch! I felt that from the other side of the Atlantic. Poor ole Junkman. There, there, there. All better now. Orf you go and play with Bert, Fred and Tom.
What about the Gremlins Water Hatchers? I did not see them in the video. It was a gremlin egg with a mogwai and a gremlin that expanded and got slimey in water. Thanks Junkman for another great video!!
i don't think we ever got the cereal, that would have been cool to get free stickers in a cereal box, then, getting a toy in the cereal was one of the joys of being a child
Just had to chime in and say awesome KISS T-shirt. I'm sure you've already done a video on the 12 inch dolls from the 1970s but if not I'd love to see that with some of the more modern figures as well from McFarlane Toys and some set I saw at Target a few months ago.
In kindergarten I had the Gizmo backpack pictured at 12:14, except it was hot pink. I also got a puzzle for Christmas that came with Colorforms you could stick on top of it. I don't remember exactly what it looked like but I remember one of the Colorforms was a pair of anaglyph 3D glasses. I'm pretty sure at this point I had never seen the movie. I did have Gremlins cereal at least once. If I remember correctly, it tasted like the Batman cereal that was released to tie in with the Tim Burton Batman movie. 12:34 The sleeping bag pictured here clearly shows Garfield's teddy bear, Pooky.
Junkman I had most of what you showed in this video. I had the big Gizmo figure and the big stripe figure. Of course I had the Gremlins lunch box the gremlins backpack cause I used to carry my stuffed weird looking Gizmo in the backpack like Billy carried Gizmo in the movie. The cereal was captain crunch in the shape of gremlins and Gizmo. Junkman do you remember the C3PO cereal called C3PO's?
Something weird was going on up here in Canada....I don't know what sales person talked them into it but the 3 pack of pvc figures could be found in every drug store that had anything resembling a toy section and for some reason most of them did have a toy section at the time.
You are so right Junkman,Gremlins 2 should have come out maybe in 87 or possibly 88 because like yourself in 84 I was 12 & by the summer of 1990 when Gremlins 2 came out which I went to see it in the Theater I was 18 & the “magic” of Gremlins was gone plus it was a weaker than the original! It would be interesting for Gremlins 3 to come out. I remember the Gremlins lunch box and the Atari 5200 Gremlins Game.I don’t remember the Atari 2600 version The other things you are shown I don’t remember! I loved Colorforms!
I had Gremlins trading cards from the first movie but oddly enough didn’t see the movie when it came out. 🤷🏻♂️ Cards were only reason I knew about the movie.
Gremlins was awesome I had the 5 records from Hardee's and the plush Gizmo ...I also had a feeling that you put in water and grew in the water . The gizmo in the pink corvette is one of the pricer items on ebay noe
I have the Stripe backpack from the 80s, and I love using it around Christmas. I have a keychain 3d stripe holding a bitten ginger bread cookie, looks 80s but not sure, can't find it online, it's like a figure but not the weird ones out today, far more realistic. Got the Stripe Tops candy container, and various figures the 4 inch from the 3 pack, the bendy one, the big scary plush. Love the records too, they're also no yt. Me and the fam listened on the holidays. LOL
I loved gremlins! For the time, it was great. I think it still is. The first thing I noticed that I had that was listed among the many items was the stuffed gizmo. It would squeak like a dog toy when ya shook it. The other thing was the lunchbox. I still have it, along with the thermos that came with it. The second one wasn't nearly as good, but I did love the original.
9:50 - All 5 of those books DID come with records. They used to sell them here in PA in the Turkey Hill/ Krogers convienience stores and like gas station type stores, I'm sure other places had the record and non record versions. They'd put a different one out every two weeks, offering each of the 5 twice or until sold out.
Watched further through the video - you aren't wrong! Not all places had the records with the books! If it was a type of place that had hot temps that the records could warp or melt, some locations did not sell the records, which is why the books are more common to find than the records. My book 5 never came with a record in my area. I was told that the company made more books than the number of records pressed.
I had a lot of the Gremlins stuff. I had one of those Gremlin shaped easter egg like things that when you openned it up it had a little yellow Gizmo and brown Stripe thingys that if you put them in a bowl of water they'd grow to 6x or 8x their size....not sure how many people remember those kinds of goofy 'toys', but if you left them in water too long they'd go -pluh- into mush, lol. Were they supposed to be fun? LOL.
@That Junkman Did you known that in 1998, not long after ''Tiger Electronics'' originally released the (Furby toy line)? Tiger Electronic and Hasbro found themselves potentially facing legal trouble when ''Warner Bros'' came kicking at their door. And it didn’t take long for meny consumers to notice the similarities between (Furbies and the loveable Gizmo) from Joe Dante’s 1984 classic ''Gremlins''. Fortunately...Warner Bros studio at the time had a good working relationship with Hasbro. And decided not to sue the toy-makers but rather partnered with them. So in 1999 Hasbro released a special ''Gizmo Furby''. Which was advertised as featuring “the actual voice of Gizmo''. The mash-up toy was reportedly limited to 250,000 pieces worldwide. The release of a ''Gremlins Furby'' confirmed the suspicion that Hasbro stole the design of the Furbys from the films central character. And the toy itself made the comparison even more unmistakable. FYI- The word ''Mogwai'' 魔怪 is a Cantonese word which means ''Evil Spirit''.
I wanted the large stripe so bad when I was a kid, but my mom wouldn’t get it for me. I had the 2 poseable gizmo’s though, 3.5” & 7”. Ertyl also had a die-cast pink corvette with gizmo driving.
Man, the only thing that I love more than the Gremlins movie was the Gremlins merchandise. This brough back some great memories of my beloved posable Gizmo. On a side note, when I was 7 or 8, I had a sleepover at my house with a pair of brothers from up the street. They showed up with matching pairs of slippers. It was weird enough that my Mom still jokes about it some 35 years later. Super weird.
Gremlins had too much ROI, should you let them near waterbed that leaked... The Atari 5200 version of Gremlins ruled. The 2600 version was... yeah... 4:22 made me need some 7:05... 😅
Humans, humans, pay your dues. Just 2 paths and you get to choose. Feed us right or fight and lose. Gremlins everywhere.LOL. Stripe is my hero. Bella L
I tend to just remember the life-size and highly realistic Gizmo doll that was in my local comic book store for a few years during the 90's. It was up in "the rafters". Guessing it cost around 200 Hfl (Dutch Guilders). By the time I was old enough to purchase such a "valuable collectible" (had a job) and figured I'd buy it, it had just been sold. Never seen another one. I've seen other Gizmos, but none that realistic...
My grandmother had the large plastic Gizmo. One day I snuck it into the bathroom and dipped it's ear in the toilet to turn it into a gremlin. However as soon as I dipped it I freaked out, dropped it in the toilet and ran
My favorite childhood toy is the 4 inch Stripe that came with a little 2 inch Gizmo that I promptly lost cause I love Stripe. LOL. Oh yeah the 3 pack, it's that one, but the Stripe one is my favorite childhood toy either. LOL.
I used to have a mogwai that turned inside out into a gremlin! I've tried to find one since for nostalgia but I guess they were rare because I've never found one. It was very cool. Edit: whoops! You actually mentioned the one I'm on about lol.
I remember saving up and spending $5 plus in pennies and silver change at K-mart as kid on the gremlins three pack. However mine was a different version? Had gizmo an egg embryo and stripe. My grandma gave me hell about it. (Should have put it in the bank!) lol 😂
I didn't realize there was that much merch for Gremlins. While I love the movie (sequel was well done as well) it became overshadowed By Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters that same year for me. In retrospect, '84 was a really good year for movies. There was a Gremlins arcade game from Atari that was cancelled. Some footage here: ua-cam.com/video/MjfbkAdLa-o/v-deo.html
This is one of my favorite movies of the 80s along with star wars the empire strikes back (1980) raiders of the lost ark (1981) e.t. (1982) Star Wars return of the Jedi (1983) ghostbusters (1984) the terminator (1984) back to the future (1985) aliens (1986) the transformers the movie (1986) predator (1987) beetlejuice (1988) batman (1989)
yeah, did that puffy sticker company know something that we didn't ? like maybe they planned to have Gizmo to be from outer space? because Steven Speilberg did make this , so maybe he wanted it to be like E.T. or it was and he said , don't copy me? i don't know, there was going to be an E.T. 2, called, The Green Planet, and when E.T. went trick or treating, he said Home to Yoda, and we never found out what the fuck Yoda is, or where he came from, i joked before that Yoda is what happens to Mogwai if they eat after midnight, because they look so similar, but what if that Green Planet that was going to be in the sequel housed both Yodas and Mogwai's and ETs?
Ain't it weird gremlins had no kids wb animated series like ghostbusters had the real ghostbusters and extreme ghostbusters beetlejuice or new merch like comics new video games?

Saw Gremlins in the theater in 1984. Had the large Gizmo figure (along with the Yoda hand puppet) The Gremlins cereal did have a catchy jingle..."Gremlins, Gremlins, bite after bite...What a way to satisfy...a Gremlin's appetite (And yes, I did actually remember it w/o looking it up on UA-cam...
Wow, I can't imagine. I've only seen gremlins recently (actually today), and I could only wish to be able to see it I theatres.
Grimlens is my favorite Christmas movie I got to get that wind up of Stripe drinking and smoking
I still have my big Gizmo & bendable Stripe toys. I used Gizmo as the fertility idol when I played Raiders of the lost ark in my backyard. :)
Phoebe Cates Was on of my earliest Movie crushes..Phoebe and Zach Galligan dripped cuteness overload in Gremlins
I remember having a few Gremlins (first movie) trading cards and the put them in water things and watch them grow. It brought two of them, one was Gizmo and the other was Stripe.
Whew talk about a throwback! I saw the movie in theaters in ‘84, and had everything from the lunchbox to *almost* EVERY toy and stuff you shown! i had a square shaped picture book from somewhere? of Billy meeting Gizmo and i ordered the Gremlins movie novel? rectangular book with words inside from the school book order form
I had the 3-pack pvc figs and the stuffed Gizmo, but I don't remember it having a loop on the head.
My mother used to buy me those...they were so gross feeling when they expanded
I had one of those, too.
The very first thing I ever bought on eBay was the vinyl Gizmo that I never got as a kid. It was $10, in great condition, & I still have it.
At least some of the current Gremlins stuffed animals are done nicely. I have a current Gizmo one on my shelf.
I hade a fever gizmo
My brother had the betamax tape of it. That is where i first saw it.
I had the books on record from Hardee's and the candy dispenser.
Kiss rocks! Fun video, my good man.
i don't think we ever got the cereal, that would have been cool to get free stickers in a cereal box, then, getting a toy in the cereal was one of the joys of being a child
The prize was how I chose what cereal I wanted when my mom took me to the grocery store with her.
You know, I've never owned any Gremlins merch. Weird.
Love the KISS t-shirt
I had the big Gremlin as a kid, he was awesome! I want one now, but they're about $300 in the box on eBay.
This brought back some memories. You left out the grow in water stripe and gizmo. I remember having stripe. I definitely had that cereal too. Thanks
i must have had that LJN set, unless i just bought the figures loose somewhere? or if they did come packaged, i don't remember the packaging
Nice bit of a nostalgia hit! Thanks, as usual, Junkman.

i had that set of 3 .Decent. I had A LOT of the Bendies. P.S. All hail the days of the Pillowcase !
Something weird was going on up here in Canada....I don't know what sales person talked them into it but the 3 pack of pvc figures could be found in every drug store that had anything resembling a toy section and for some reason most of them did have a toy section at the time.
Gremlins chewable morphine

i never looked for it, but was there a remote controlled Barbie pink corvette car? or did they just rig one for the movie ?
I think I need to know about the hot with cheese!
Good stuff! I never had the Gremlins Atari game but I LOVED the E.T. game! As frustrating as it was, I played it all the time! 😁👍
I LOVED Lazer Blazers!! I had A-Team Laser Blazers on my wall of my childhood bedroom for YEARS
I have the Stripe backpack from the 80s, and I love using it around Christmas. I have a keychain 3d stripe holding a bitten ginger bread cookie, looks 80s but not sure, can't find it online, it's like a figure but not the weird ones out today, far more realistic.

Very funny, great comments! Gremlins is another great movie from the 80's! Regards from Spain.

I had Colorforns the Backpack the stuffed Gizmo and the book and records. I recently bought a second set of book and records still sealed off Ebay
Billy has 76 acting credits listed on IMDB including 4 for this year.
I had a lot of the Gremlins stuff. I had the large Gizmo figure in 84. Was probably one of the last “toys” I bought in the 80’s
I remember those records at Hardee's... even got one...but never had the figures...but my cousin did
"And right there on the package is that kid, Billy, who I don't think I've seen him in anything else." Not even in Gremlins 2? XD
Movie 2 was fun, and it has 2 of my favorite characters, Brain and Phantom.
The magic slate was my jam on any long car ride! 🤘
I'm surprised they still had a metal lunch box at that time. Maybe since it was a movie they were designed and ordered far in advance.
I have the gumball machine of Stripe, but it comes out of his stomach. I forgot that one.
I was only a few months old. WOW. no wonder why I didn't know about the toys until I saw one on Ebay.
I have to mention the Gizmo themed Big Wheel.
Gremlins had too much ROI, should you let them near waterbed that leaked...
The Atari 5200 version of Gremlins ruled. The 2600 version was... yeah...
4:22 made me need some 7:05... 😅
Loved it! But it scared me haha 😂
I had the Gizmo plush if you shook it it made a squeaking sound. I had sheets curtains and the record books from Hardee's.
That plush gizmo looks cracked out 😂
Ralston had a good number of licensed character cereals
Humans, humans, pay your dues. Just 2 paths and you get to choose. Feed us right or fight and lose. Gremlins everywhere.LOL.

LOL.
I still consider Gremlins to be a Christmas Movie Junkman.
Remember the Hardee's book and records? 1 each week for 5 weeks
Damn no Water Hatchers? Ouch! Those were more popular since they were more affordable.
8:06 There was an NES game based on Gremlins 2.
I’m pretty sure I played with one of the poseable Gizmos.
5:58 *Gizmo's in a UFO because he was originally supposed to be an alien*
I used to have a mogwai that turned inside out into a gremlin! I've tried to find one since for nostalgia but I guess they were rare because I've never found one. It was very cool.
Edit: whoops! You actually mentioned the one I'm on about lol.
Brother had posable gizmo
I remember saving up and spending $5 plus in pennies and silver change at K-mart as kid on the gremlins three pack. However mine was a different version? Had gizmo an egg embryo and stripe. My grandma gave me hell about it. (Should have put it in the bank!) lol 😂
After watching a couple other videos on the subject. I must have gotten the three pack and egg hatchers. 🤷♂️
I didn't realize there was that much merch for Gremlins. While I love the movie (sequel was well done as well) it became overshadowed By Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters that same year for me. In retrospect, '84 was a really good year for movies.

Maybe you don't like them but I love all the plush. 🙂
You can youtube the record stories
Hey junk man thanks for the thumbs up emoji you gave to my comment
yeah, did that puffy sticker company know something that we didn't ? like maybe they planned to have Gizmo to be from outer space? because Steven Speilberg did make this , so maybe he wanted it to be like E.T. or it was and he said , don't copy me? i don't know, there was going to be an E.T.
I'd pay top dollar for Phoebe Cates action figure!
I have the gizmo plush and the one with babys
I agree gizmo is so much cuter than baby Yoda.
Thank you for hearting my comment
Gremlins was cool but all that stuff is on the list that will probably get you beat up at school.
6:34 I agree
I had gizmo as a kid
I want all of your stuff
I had the posable stripe. Until my older brother broke it.
How old was billy supposed to be? He had a FT job at the bank, yet his only friend was a young Corey Feldman. Go figure.
Ain't it weird gremlins had no kids wb animated series like ghostbusters had the real ghostbusters and extreme ghostbusters beetlejuice or new merch like comics new video games?
Great film & it’s not a Christmas film 🤷🏼♂️😂
I had the big Stripe
Gizmo is way better than Baby Yoda
I hav a gizmo in my collection
Best Christmas movie of all time
