I so wish this could have been an R rated horror movie, but I’m glad Steven Spielberg and Joe Dante were attached to this project. Together they created a true classic, and one of the main films that introduced the PG-13 rating.
@@littletrilly900 you’re kidding right? There are no wrong opinions, that’s what makes them opinions, just say “I disagree” in your head and move on lmao. Gremlins is great btw.
What I find interesting is the draft I found, I think the 2nd, doesn’t have the mother’s head roll down the stairs but rather her pill bottle. I’ve never read the version that everyone keeps referencing w/ the decapitated head. Another detail is after the Mogwai are transformed is one, they are still referred to as Mogwai. Two, they are described as having horns that’ve replaced of their big ears, and it’s outright said what Mogwai means: “devil”. The Gremlins lack that chaotic personality and are just the typical mindless monsters that eat people.
“What are Gremlins? Asked Percy. I’ve heard they’re little green men who play tricks! Replied Thomas.” - Thomas and Friends: Gordon And The Gremlin (1998)
@lizard boi they couldn't get monkey actors to work cause animals don't like having to wear shit like make up over their face and wearing practical costumes they have no house training so they would shit on set and ruin the set they also are dangerous animals that can rip your face off and genitals off also monkeys don't cooperate with what the director wants them to do.
@lizard boi also gremlins aren't monkeys they are personified anthropromorphsized reptilian bipedal monsters they don't knuckle drag or behave like monkeys and apes they behave like the negative low vibration mischievous dangerous aspects of humanity
The R rated script is out there, a bit hard to find but it’s out there. While I think it works better as it is now I do love the ending of the script. The evil gizmo is locked in a toolbox and a cleanup crew member decides to nab it not knowing the evil inside. As he is driving down the road with the sun setting with the tool box sitting beside him it begins to shake as if something is trying to break out. The driver freaks out and throws it out of the vehicle. It tumbles off the road, down a hill and then off the edge of a quarry. It splashes into the water and slowly sinks as you can hear a gremlin laugh.
THANK YOU!!! I KNEW that scene with Judge Reinhold existed!! I saw it once in a network showing of the movie but in all the videos I've seen talking about the various versions & edits of the movie, NOBODY has mentioned that scene! I was beginning to think maybe I had Mandela Effected myself into believing it had happened. So thank you for letting me know I am NOT insane!
How oddly appropriate that this video came out as a few days ago I just finish watching Gremlins and Gremlins 2, the first one has to be now one of my favorite Christmas movies.
@@Dirty_DavosI simply don't like the idea of Gremlins being from space. Them being some rare mythical creature out of a fairy tale did fit so much better.
The oddly specific-ish rules are fine for it being a one off film. While continuing the franchise normally requires to get into true specifics of the rules. (which ultimately because they didn’t do that the sequel didn’t do very well.) Considering Gizmos is quite clean for somebody that can’t get wet also what about the snow or the drinks at the bar etc..? How is time biologically measured for them if they’re creatures from China, wouldn’t it be midnight from their native province not local?
I agree that the rule is flawed, but I always figured that Mogwai could eat anything after noon but before midnight. Any time after midnight but before noon was "after midnight."
Has anyone heard about this Animated Feature-Length film from 1915 called, "Creation"? It was animated by Tack Knight, Pinto Colvig and few other cartoonists!..
@ScribblestoScreen Just so you know, Chris Columbus's 2nd draft of Gremlins can be found online. It doesn't have the scene of Billy's mom's head rolling down the stairs (though she does get killed), but otherwise, it has most of the deleted concepts and moments that have become the stuff of fan urban legend. Actually, the very first draft of Gremlins (which Joe Dante didn't even read) had Billy and his love interest as young kids. Spielberg chose to change this in order to differentiate it from Elliott and his friends from E.T. (which Spielberg was making at this time).
The original script likely had the Gremlin mischief more violent than the original scenes in the Movie today like the road scenes being more violent. When Gizmo gets wet Gizmo would likely grow a mohawk now turning into Stripe. It’s unclear he would keep the white around his eye though. The original Tavern cut would likely have a longer Poker match and Bogart scenes. They would also have more Gremlins mischief like maybe the Gremlins would maybe get in a bar fight and the Mega Madness song would likely be played in its full track since the movie doesn’t play the whole song in the bar. Billy would likely kill Gizmo/Stripe. It’s unclear how he would kill Stripe but likely by sunlight. He would probably get to the blinds by dogging Stripe’s/Gizmo’s bullets from his gun. I didn’t cover Billy’s mom’s death or the McDonald’s scene since we already know those things. The movie would likely end with a funeral scene for Billy’s Mom and maybe Mr. Wing gets uncontrollably mad in the end.
I also found some toys online of gremlins that didn't make the final cut. They're actually pretty cute. The time machine and Chuck Jones Easter eggs are awesome, even though I've never seen the movie. I never knew about the ape thing. Wow. I want to see the rest of that bar footage, though. I love that scene. Also, random Yoda made me laugh. XD
There was a planned gremlins arcade video game also that was pretty far in the works in the 80s(?) and canned before release. One prototype was found with one video of the arcade game on youtube!
I love Gremlins, so this'll be fun. I know the original script was much darker. However, I find the main girl's trauma to be ridiculous. I get it, but it's just hilarious. They even made a joke about it in the sequel. This time, revolving around Abraham Lincoln's birthday. XD
By the way love the video dude, I didn't know that the first draft was r rated and bloodier, this franchise would've been something else if they used this draft.
So many Easter eggs! Joe Dante was perfect for this film!! Watch the sequal and Dantes love letter to the movie gimmicks of the 1950s, titled Matinee. They make for a near perfect triple feature of Dantes best! Cheers from Canada
I don’t know why they don’t release this unreleased footage either in a deleted scenes section on a new blu-ray release or give us an extended cut of the film where this footage is present. I would love to see the scene where Billy pulls the final cord that kills Stripe. If nothing else, I just wanna see that scene.
After Gremlins 2, a true spiritual successor would be unwatchable. The sequel artfully burned so many bridges and sacred cows, what could be left? Think: Meat Canyon meets Wonder Showzen I would love to see it!
They should’ve made a “director’s cut” version of the movie with the dark scenes that were canceled and release that separately on VHS for older audiences
The gremlins animatronics were SO advanced for their time. The mogwai puppets could only contain a certain amount of servos, so there were literal metal wires coming out of Gizmo's back. There were 5 puppeteers controlling a single Mogwai. The Gremlins however were just simple hand and rod puppets. The More You Know!✨
It's from a Time Machine Documentary - Journey Back in Time. I got it for my DVD copy, at the end of the programme there's a kind of short film sequel to the Time Machine, so definitely worth checking out

Also how about a future video on the lost powers masters 80s cartoon? Had big voices from transformers and gijoe and a toyline but the cartoon not a single complete episode exists so far only parts of the first three and an intro on youtube! It's not even on wiki or imdb!
Time for a Prequel. American aviators in China during the war in Pacific need spare parts. They meet up with some peasants that are able to provide parts from a downed bomber. The wreckage has some peculiar scratchings inside and outside the plane. A local airfield had problems getting a single plane to fly. The ball turret gunner, an alcoholic, trades some American money and a watch for liquor and a unique item for his gal back home, if he makes it. The ancient Chinese trader warns him about the rules of owning such a unique gift. Rules, of course broken. American pilots loving their new 'mascot' They even paint her as wing art. Most of movie is about American bomber crew battling an outbreak of Gremlins that at first, invisibly sabotage weapons systems and fuselage, until its an outright battle between crew at one end of bomber and army of Gremlins at other end. Bombing runs over Japanese airbases, dogfights with Zeros. Ball gunner blasting away at Gremlins clinging to craft, eventually 'bombing' a Jap base with a mass of Gremlins.
