  • Today we're taking another look at a classic episode of wife swap, more specifically the most outrageous episode I've seen yet. I think that's pretty apparent from the first 5 seconds of the video though. Anyways enjoy or whatever.. I don't care I'm not your dad.

Hes an asshole. That was the perfect way that he as a father could build their confidence and self esteem and he chose to shatter it by calling them that horrible name. Little girls always look to their fathers as thier first love and take how he treats them and their mother as the foundation for the type of man they wanna marry. This douchebag destroyed that for them. He has no business being a father.

Let me add to this, because Chris is young, I don't think he realizes this. At the time of airing printers were still around, but film was key, and from experience it is a lot of work to develop film, to add the chemicals and equipment necessary, the photo paper alone can get pretty expensive, especially when it comes to those larger sizes.

The whole idea of feminism is to empower women and allow them to wear and look how they want. You defeat the whole point if you tell your daughter she isn't allowed to wear feminine stuff because... old-school feminism wasn't all-inclusive, which is where most boomers are coming from when they speak of feminism. you can see this in the boring movie "Ice Princess" where she has a feminist mom, but it's not a "support all women" and moreso "supporting the idea of what women should be, opposite of what the patriarchy wants from us" type of feminism. like, it's better than plain misogyny, but it's still judgmental and encourages some toxic mindsets too.
I will say that that mom wasn't off base sometimes and was willing to listen/improve, though. she had some real points, even if the daughter and father were presumably hamming it up for the cameras.

Small, basic homes with the bare necessities, nothing for the sake of showing off or being better than others. It doesn't mean dressing homeless and Puritan, but keep it simple, clean, and modest (not modest like don't show your titiies, but nothing like pageant dresses).

i was a studio photographer for 4 years and 130 is average for a photoshoot to be honest, it might not have been the sheet alone that shes upset about here that actually was a super messed up thing to do. our sheets were 18 dollars each just under 20 dollars after tax but the cheapest package we had was 150 dollars it came with every image we took on a cd and usually 5 prints as well. Our studio didnt have a sitting fee but some do they will charge you just for the time they had to use its usually like 15 dollars. Not including the pagent dress, makeup and hair, if that was an important photo she probably got it done right after winning which she cant just go back and do again, that was an important memory for her. I'm really hoping in whatever 130 package they got they have a digital backup somewhere, and can go to any cvs walgreens or walmart to reprint it. But based on her reaction that didnt seem to be the case, and you can see how much that photo meant to her. i believe even if this show is scripted, that reaction wasnt. and i feel really bad for her in that moment.

I think Alicia would have had a better life if she was taught to have pride in work instead of having everything done for her. Because she was not able to accomplish much on her own, except being a pageant dress up barbie doll, she reverted to becoming a sex object to survive. Girls who do not learn basic skills cannot adapt to a "normal" life. What man wants to marry someone who will not help around the house, cannot cook dinner once in a while, or will not even do her own work to get a degree in college or a trade school? I am sad to say that her parents did not do her any favors, not that they will admit it.

Professional portrait photographer here, I can confirm that while it may seem high, when you break down the price of the shoot, and the print package, yes a single photo can seem to cost that much. Though, it's disingenuous to break it down that way. The Print itself did not cost 130 dollars, the cumulative cost of the shoot, and print package, every photographer prices their work differently, but an average one hour shoot in my area is around 150, adding print to that of course increases your pricing, whether you're printing from home, or sending it off to a print house. I've never worked pageant shoots, so I couldn't tell you what they charge for those, but I know plenty of photographers who work similar events with prices ranging from 100, to 1,000 for less than an hour shoot.

This. Waiter here and if you're really picky, I would rather you TELL me that than send food back.

10:39 I noticed the same thing and thought about it! I think it's because the firstborn had only the parents to influence them, the second, if born shortly after the first, also. The third, who usually has quite a bit of difference from the first two, is indoctrinated (with little success) and scolded continuously by both parents and siblings, making anyone who enters with a more similar mindset an ally.

This is how you teach your children to trust the wrong people tbh because care seems so rough and hostile so just things in common will convince the niave minded.

I am so thankful my family was never on this show. Thanks, Chris James, for showing us how grateful we are to not have been on Wife Swap. Happy holidays, everyone.

Your wife swap name would be something internet related like "incel youtuber Chris."
Also cracked up at the idea of pallets of makeup being air dropped to the central US.

My stepfather had a home office for years pre-Covid and he almost always made homemade dinner from scratch.. He's a really good cook and the most important thing I ever learned from him was that.. sometimes it's okay to order in some pizza.. Also, sometimes a meal is just leftovers and random stuff you found in the fridge, that you scramble together in a pan, it doesn't have to be fancy or complicated.. (On that note, how gourmet is the food they get at a DINER?)

I saw the TikTok of that the pageant daughter made she explained that she was never really spoiled and that the show forced her to have horrible views on people because that’s what her mom wanted it to seem like.

I know it’s like 98 percent scripted but I’d love to imagine one of the swapped wives asking “well why the hell did you come on THIS show??”
