If there's one thing that GT did that carried over into Super it's that not only is Vegeta more interesting, but he's also amazing for comedic moments. The pure dad energy of wanting to look cool for your kid by shaving the mustache is just precious.

And him not being the actual main villain means he can be consistently threatening without that threat having to be resolved. Which only makes the comedy even better. I love the version of Freeza we got in Super.

All of this reinforces my belief that Super would have been a much better show had it just focused on the Z-Crew trying to live normal lives in a peaceful era - kind of what Team Four Star has been doing with the Dragon Shorts - instead of trying to introduce greater threats and new transformations that will never amount to much for as long as the Dragon Ball Z Epilogue remains canon.
I don't know why, but I love the idea of Goten being an absolute Poon-Hound. Probably just because it would be something to differentiate him from his dad and brother, but also the idea of the Sayian Fuckboi is just hilarious to me.
I find it funny how Goten's the only one of the Son's that isn't an Amazon chaser, like Goku and Gohan both went for feistier girls, hell, Vegeta, Trunks, and even Broly all did too, but Goten took a page from his grandpa Bardock's book and went for Valese instead. One of my fave vegeta character progress moments shown in both gt and super is how much of a DAD he is. I’m not saying good dad or whatever and as much as he failed both trunks (current timeline one a little less) every scene of him and Bra/Bulla Is 100% girl dad and just the whiplash of his introduction to “I’ve majored in diaper changing” is amazing
Hard agree. His relationship with Bulla is totally unique to any other character he interacts with and its great. I really wish there was more of that dynamic on screen because it's cute and hilarious.
The impression I get from this section is that the post-Z Earth with no Goku is what the creative talent on GT really wanted to explore. And it works! Seeing this small section of the story just enhances the idea that Goku should have stepped back as a presence at the end of Cell. The emptiness of the space sections really stand out in contrast. The follow-up to the story should have always been about expanding Earth.
1. To be fair, I can't think of anything more genuinely badarse than managing to tire your opponent out by just being an impossibly tough brick wall. Gohan basically pulled a Thorfinn before Vinland Saga was even a thing. 2. I think the logic of Baby waiting for someone to power up before taking them over is that its like tensing a muscle. You can do it once, sure, but you can't tense it again *while* you're doing it.
I will NEVER not love GT Vegeta, he's my favourite Vegeta bar none Haircut none withstanding, I love his design (and if the hair is drawn well it's honestly not TOO bad as long as it's spikey), and his character development is the best. Him fishing for compliments from GOTEN will never not be the best And I'll die on this hill - The Final Shine Attack is bloody awesome!
I like that his GT hair contrasts his SS4 hair that resembles his classic style. It makes SS4 have some character storytelling, because no matter how domesticated or mature he might get, Vegeta will always have that prince of the monkeys in him.

It is probably a strict mother gag but it feels so out of place given that this is ChiChi, a trained fighter who knows better than to hit people unless she intends to hurt them. Bulma is the type to smack someone, but not ChiChi. It aged terribly and wasn't funny enough to deserve including in the first place.
Funnily enough I vaguely remember having a DVD that came with Tenkaichi 3 back when I was a kid that was a bunch of Dragon Ball fights and I think the Baby Gohan versus Vegeta fight was on it.
17:17 at the very least, they don’t seem to imply that Gohan got WEAKER at least, by the logic of this show, and I seem to recall that Gohan and Vegeta are sort of in a similar *ball park* here. Gohan is outmatched, but seems like he can still make Vegeta break a sweat. It seems like GT Gohan has at least kept up whatever the fantasy martial arts equivalent is of going for the occasional jog and hitting the gym every once in a while, and I appreciate that. There is a difference between Gohan not training anymore, and *completely* letting himself go.
The dissonance of Goku, Pan, Trunks and Giru still dicking around while Baby is still at large bugs the eff out of me ngl. You'd think that would finally be what lights a fire under their asses and explains why they're grabbing the Dragon Balls at a quicker pace but nope. Hell, why isn't King Kai or Elder Kai communicating with Goku that Baby is on Earth and absorbing people?
Likewise! I've always liked how "complete" Vegeta seemed in GT. He's a family man who takes his daughter to the mall, wears clothes that harken back to his saiyan wear, but are distinctly "Earthy", and had a mustache. I've always thought he just, as people do, got a haircut. I never had any problem recognizing him, since his face is pretty distinct.
Honestly ever since I learned Sayains hair doesn’t grow (with the exception of facial hair) Vegeta getting a hair cut is more permanent than a tattoo. That’s a bold commitment on his part

Baby doesn't just control people remotely, he completely changes their thoughts. It's like if everyone in the world chose 1 religion, all of Baby's victims absolutely love and adore him and hate everything that he hates as they go about living their lives. Gohan and Videl wanted to save their daughter but baby tells them to kill her and they instantly without any hesitation acknowledge that order as absolute and correct and would have killed pan without any remorse.

Because the shows establishes that he has to *enter* the body, I think either exclusively via a wound or that’s just his most often method. But then when he enters Gohan he just kinda… Majin Buu style absorbs him? He doesn’t enter Gohan in any way, he just wraps around him and then… he’s in him? So like… what orifice did Baby crawl into?

@@samuel-wankenobi You can easily tell the dates were changed around for arbitrary reasons towards the end of production. Same thing happened with Pokemon Black and White, where the game protags were aged down right before release, so they look bizarrely more mature than they're supposed to.
One of my fave vegeta character progress moments shown in both gt and super is how much of a DAD he is. I’m not saying good dad or whatever and as much as he failed both trunks (current timeline one a little less) every scene of him and Bra/Bulla Is 100% girl dad and just the whiplash of his introduction to “I’ve majored in diaper changing” is amazing
Hard agree. His relationship with Bulla is totally unique to any other character he interacts with and its great. I really wish there was more of that dynamic on screen because it's cute and hilarious.

The impression I get from this section is that the post-Z Earth with no Goku is what the creative talent on GT really wanted to explore. And it works! Seeing this small section of the story just enhances the idea that Goku should have stepped back as a presence at the end of Cell. The emptiness of the space sections really stand out in contrast. The follow-up to the story should have always been about expanding Earth.
1. To be fair, I can't think of anything more genuinely badarse than managing to tire your opponent out by just being an impossibly tough brick wall.
Gohan basically pulled a Thorfinn before Vinland Saga was even a thing.
2. I think the logic of Baby waiting for someone to power up before taking them over is that its like tensing a muscle. You can do it once, sure, but you can't tense it again *while* you're doing it.

I like that his GT hair contrasts his SS4 hair that resembles his classic style. It makes SS4 have some character storytelling, because no matter how domesticated or mature he might get, Vegeta will always have that prince of the monkeys in him.

If you're never watch the original version in Japanese can you say you experience said series as it was intended. That version never aired in the west and we had to endure Funimation terrible rewriten dialogue that altered the characters and how we perceived them.

To explain ChiChi slapping Goten like that, it was heavily implied in the Buu anime that ChiChi was harder on him in training and pushed him to become a super saiyan by accident.
He IS also a super powerful saiyan for his age, so a harsh slap to a human would be a like a flick to the noggin for him. Or maybe it's just unstoppable angry mom like japan is fond of portraying lol

It is probably a strict mother gag but it feels so out of place given that this is ChiChi, a trained fighter who knows better than to hit people unless she intends to hurt them. Bulma is the type to smack someone, but not ChiChi. It aged terribly and wasn't funny enough to deserve including in the first place.
Goten is just continuing the trend that Sayans apparently have of marring into money. Just that already makes GT a little bit more cannon to me.
Funnily enough I vaguely remember having a DVD that came with Tenkaichi 3 back when I was a kid that was a bunch of Dragon Ball fights and I think the Baby Gohan versus Vegeta fight was on it.
17:17 at the very least, they don’t seem to imply that Gohan got WEAKER at least, by the logic of this show, and I seem to recall that Gohan and Vegeta are sort of in a similar *ball park* here. Gohan is outmatched, but seems like he can still make Vegeta break a sweat. It seems like GT Gohan has at least kept up whatever the fantasy martial arts equivalent is of going for the occasional jog and hitting the gym every once in a while, and I appreciate that. There is a difference between Gohan not training anymore, and *completely* letting himself go.

Likewise! I've always liked how "complete" Vegeta seemed in GT. He's a family man who takes his daughter to the mall, wears clothes that harken back to his saiyan wear, but are distinctly "Earthy", and had a mustache.
I've always thought he just, as people do, got a haircut. I never had any problem recognizing him, since his face is pretty distinct.
Honestly ever since I learned Sayains hair doesn’t grow (with the exception of facial hair) Vegeta getting a hair cut is more permanent than a tattoo. That’s a bold commitment on his part
@@Broomer52 I think the implication is that their hair always stabilizes at their birth style. Goku's had some hair chopped off in battle before, but it grows back to the same shape. It's like Wolverine.
Baby doesn't just control people remotely, he completely changes their thoughts. It's like if everyone in the world chose 1 religion, all of Baby's victims absolutely love and adore him and hate everything that he hates as they go about living their lives. Gohan and Videl wanted to save their daughter but baby tells them to kill her and they instantly without any hesitation acknowledge that order as absolute and correct and would have killed pan without any remorse.
I think outside of worshipping Baby and being racist against Saiyans they pretty much keep their original personalities as we see with Krillin.

I’ve always thought the scene where Baby jumps into Gohan was so… weird. Because the shows establishes that he has to *enter* the body, I think either exclusively via a wound or that’s just his most often method.
But then when he enters Gohan he just kinda… Majin Buu style absorbs him? He doesn’t enter Gohan in any way, he just wraps around him and then… he’s in him? So like… what orifice did Baby crawl into?

Gohan doesn't stop training between Z and GT, they explicitly clarify that in GT. The writers and Toriyama just forgot stuff, as usual.
