well, Virginia, Christmas actually has more pagan roots. ie the virgin birth, a pagan concept and according to matthew and luke the idea that jesus had no biological human father thus disqualifying him from being the messiah. this message is brought to you by Baptists for Buddha
Hello there Harold Hughes, - It's a good thing that so many of us who are evangelical Bible believers are able to study the Hebrew Scriptures in their original language, as I do. The gaping flaw in your argument is that in reality, the idea of a virgin birth of the Messiah is derived from a prophecy in the Jewish Bible, specifically in Isaiah 7:14, where a comprehensive study of the text shows that the word used there for the young woman was translated by 70 rabbis in the Septuagint translation, around 220 BCE, with the Greek word Parthanos, which is ironclad soldily meaning a virgin. That Prophecy in the Jewish Bible was written around 650 BCE, and if pagans want to do a copycat of that there's nothing to stop them. - However let's not try to dismiss Jewish prophecy by noting that it might be replicated in pagan works. My commitment to the truth of the Virgin conception of Messiah Yeshua is based on Jewish prophecy alone found in the Jewish Bible. I would simply encourage you to look beyond sources which start out with an 'a priori' agenda to dismiss doctrines which they feel are musty, and simply look at the evidence for fulfilled prophecy. That's what led me to faith in my own Jewish Messiah after a background growing up in a very liberal home in New York City. I passionately value my Jewish heritage, and that Jewish heritage finds its full flower in Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah. Be well, Mottel Baleston
