Founder of Uncomp here and it's always nice to see someone enjoying the mod... Well, "enjoying" in heavy quotes. The project is meant to replicate the early days of Dont Starve where the fear of the unknown is prevalent and you learn through experimentation and discovery. However, in this day and age people dont really give mods that amount of patience sadly which is why we have an officially endorsed wiki - which we encourage you to use if you dont like this style of play! Almost every mechanic in the game can also be configured on and off in the settings if you want to enjoy our new content but aren't really up for the difficulty. We admittedly used to be pretty elitist in our mindset but I like to think we realized how silly that was, haha. We've been around for a while. I am also the creator and designer of Wathom, so this video was especially fun to see. The character is solely based around maximizing risk (Damage taken) for reward (Damage dealt), something you didn't mention that's almost the centerpiece of his kit is that the higher Adrenaline he has, the further and faster his leaps are (Notice that you can jump halfway across the screen in a single bound while fully Amped up!), this being crazy high allows you to kite/dodge attacks that would otherwise be a death sentence with 5x damage taken. Although don't let me pressure you into ONLY using Wathom, the other developers worked just as hard (if not more) on the other characters as well, especially Wixie. Walter also had a total rework (as he was essentially split into two characters). Also yes, I also made the character select screen summary which... Well, its hard to put in so much information into 4-5 lines which actually begs the question, do you - a player with 100 days of experience as Wathom - have any closing thoughts or criticisms on the character? Your feedback would be super valuable as the benefit of being a mod is that we can update it at any time. In short, cheers for giving us a go, and happy new year! Edit: Also you crashing during summer is VERY weird, we havent been getting any reports of crashes in the live branch recently... If it continues, we recommend you sending crash logs to our discord, which you can find on the steam page.
I am honored, and I definitely "enjoyed" the mod! It did a great job on reintroducing the fear of the unknown and really gave the game some much needed stress. I usually try not to use the wiki unless I'm completely lost lol. I actually quite like all of the default settings and will probably continue to play with them! I had actually meant to comment on Wathom's speed and leap distance increase but I must have forgotten or cut it out unintentionally. The character description really isn't as bad as I made it out to be considering how complex the character is. I'm sure I would say that same about some of the vanilla characters if I didn't already know how they all worked. As far as criticisms go, I really don't have any! He serves his purpose as a risk/reward character and is very well balanced! The only things that really come to mind are that He's missing a bit of dialogue, and he does do double damage with blow darts and possibly other ranged weapons which could be a bit cheesy. Of course I don't know if that's intentional or not, since Wolfgang can also do the same thing (which I've never been a fan of). Additionally I noticed that some enemies could still attack despite being afraid of Wathom (like the koalefant), but this could also be intentional. Overall though, great job on the character! I really like his design, despite how much I made fun of him. As far as the crashing goes, I'm playing with a quite a few mods so maybe it wasn't directly caused by UM? I know the "Don't Starve Alone" mod can cause some issues. Anyway, I had a great time playing the mod! Clearly, a lot of work went into it, and it's really impressive and high quality! I'm sure I've barely scratched the surface, so I'll definitely be playing more at some point. Thanks for commenting and I hope you enjoyed the video!
Just to add some context for why I feel people don't give mods that amount of patience. I have played normal games that have obscure or hidden mechanics and beaten the entire game without figure them out, or aspects are hidden that make it feel inconsistent and feel frustrating over fun. examples range from using ultimate attacks to i-frame some enemy attacks, aggro generating stuff yet "tanks" still losing enemy aggression, how about the undead blacksmith in dark souls 1 in catacombs, or people who start with master key, and potentially unknowingly skip the capra demon and large ember not being able to +10 a weapon then have the giant blacksmith make a boss weapon. Hidden mechanics are usually fine in my opinion, until they turn out to be a bug or glitch that due to being hidden is hard to confirm correct behavior. Some mods are buggy, inconsistent, or have unknown compatibility issues and the amount of time to blindly identify the cause is a lot longer then just search online or check a wiki for the mechanic. Especially in something like don't starve where fighting might require hours of prep, or special starting conditions just to figure it out I do agree it can be unfortunate when people just turn to a wiki at the slightest inconvenience or question, though I also understand especially in something that is multiplayer, or takes large amounts of time. Examples being terraria's calamity mod crafting trees (and sometimes how to get the enemy to spawn), and don't starve (although I haven't played it in forever, and certainly wasn't very good) testing stuff for winter or spring meant starting in a bad season or waiting through 1-2 season worth of time to die and restart. I know there is or was mode that lets you revive from the starting portal but for me personally it felt against the spirit of the game (think easy vs normal vs hard mode arguments)
I watch your videos because you're one of the few gaming channels that doesn't do all the screaming and going "brooooooo" and all that hyped up catering to the algorithm bullshit that I'm so sick of. I don't think you're dull or monotone, you're just chill. I'm sure the people complaining about your style aren't the ones watching the videos all the way through. I'm glad that you and other chill youtubers exist because it means I can still enjoy content even with my near chronic headaches/migraines and without getting annoyed. (I did end up skipping the bit in this vid)
After reading multiple comments looks like everyone took you seriously. But everyone seems to like you the way you are, including me. Don’t change for a bit, that’s why we like you !
I actually found the whole "youtuber bit" funny. Pretending to be this exaggerated theatrical stereotype as a calm monotone guy made me blow air out my nose. Tho I thought your chuckles are indicative of you having fun with it too.
I love how you keep treating Wathom as an edgy teenager or a dog. It gives the character a lot of likability and I love how you treat this thing that literally has “Apex Predator” in its bio as just a silly little guy.
Don’t change your style at all, this kind of long video with your commentary and voice is amazing for background/sleep. That is in no way a bad thing, your normal narration voice is relaxing. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the reason for the amount of views. I know you did the “youtuber bit” as a joke but that might ruin the video for some e.g. for sleep/relaxing/study So please just keep your chill commentary style, ignore anyone that wants another youtuber clone. I really enjoy these Don’t Starve videos for sleep, thanks for the great content ☺️
I have ADHD and can have a hard time relaxing to the point where i don't feel the need to go do something else, but I literally fell asleep watching the "playing 100 days of dst" video because i was so entertained and relaxed. Therefor i had to rewind almost half the video when i woke up, because they are so entertaining to watch. So using these types of video for relaxing and for entertainment is 10/10 would recommend.

You caught me red handed with the eating whilst watching callout, stop breaking the forth wall jester - keep dancing!
I am specifically obsessed with this string of words that you said "bro that is, oh honestly, that is, that is so much, ,, h like, thats a bigger beehive, than ive,, seen before thats such like. Its bigger, than like, a normal beehive yknow? Like thats- thats bigger than a beehive that i would usually see like if you saw a beehive, that one is big. Yknow?" - youtuber
i don't know others would say his commentary is monotone, that makes his channel more unique tbh. if you don't like the way he do stuff then maybe go to other same annoying youtubers, that targeted very young audiences.
no need to be sorry for anything!! i love watching ur vids so much and i only found u recently!! ur great for background noise bc u give me something to focus to and ur voice is very relaxing
people complaining about your voice are just not your target audience. some folks enjoy screaming and loud constant yabbbering, so of course they won't find entertainment in someone calmer who doesn't do those things. as someone who enjoys more "human" content creators, i like your content because it feels like i'm watching a normal dude having fun playing a game, not a UA-camr who's Trying To Be Famous. your monotone voice paired with your sense of humor makes for a wonderful and highly entertaining match imo. keep it up!!
As a new viewer of your channel, your voice being dull isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes it's what people are looking for in a video. In my opinion, a dull voice is significantly better than one that grates on the ears.
No! I only registered the SLIGHTEST monotone-ness literally when you brought it up! I didn’t even realise. Don’t worry, I love that you arent one of those UA-camrs that just CONSTANTLY talk, nonstop, giving my ADHD brain too many things to think about.
1:27:12 Holy crap dude, I was eating a cupcake when you said this and literally spit it all over my phone I laughed so hard. The monotone, unexpected delivery got me.
When you started the "enthusiastic content creator" bit I was like "That just sounds exhausting" I have the same criticism against me, that I'm "monotone" and need to be "more emotive" but it's so exhausting, man. How do people have energy for that?
this video got recommended out of the blue and it's been a hit with me, 25 mins in and you've got a sub! love the "visual aid" bit with the missed recording
this mod actually has some config options that are off by default but honestly make valuable additions to the experience. a main one is a rework to the walking cane which gives it durability (lasts 1 hour) but makes mactusk always drop a tusk. works really nicely with the rework UM does to the lazy explorer.
I had to physically resist, clicking off when he was trying to be high energy. If somebody tries to take my monotone away from me, I will personally remove their vocal cords, placing it with a harmonica then we will see who is high energy now
High-key I love your monotone voice. It's super relaxing and makes it super easy to listen to and follow along. Unlike super energetic people that make me feel exhausted just listening to them. Great work
Woo, Uncompromising Mode! I'm still not very good with bosses, but I _am_ able to survive indefinitely with food and stuff in base DST. UM introduces a lot of very interesting challenges to force me to do things I wouldn't ordinarily. I never really touched the drying rack before, but now that meat has great value. I could survive handily off ice and Monster Meat, but now it's more involved. I would often just ignore my sanity and deal with the nightmares as they came, but with UM, I fear the nightmares, because I will almost certainly die. I don't know how to handle the crazy ones it introduces. I love seeing more people play this mod. Despite the memes surrounding it, it's great.
I subscribed for many reasons: your dry, clever wit; your engaging & entertaining commentary; your informative narration. I feel compelled to tell you, though, that I decided to subscribe as soon as I heard your moleworm & Glommer impressions. The former because I, too, immediately impersonate moleworms when they make those sounds & I felt less insane for doing so when I heard you do it. The latter because I wish I could so precisely impersonate Glommer’s conversational skills the way you do. Can’t wait to binge your other content & watch your channel grow in popularity (which is inevitable as far as I’m concerned). Thank you for sharing your hard work with us!
Wouldn't have sat through the whole video if you weren't chill with some well-placed, quiet humor! Not all of us are 12 and in need of screaming to keep our interest :) Cool that you tried the mod!
This is my first time on your channel but no need to put on a character. I always prefer monotone commentary especially when the situation doesn't fit the estatic and loud lmao.
I was having so much fun with your chill funny commentary. The forced overexaggerating fun is something I find annoying, for every kind of content creator. Im glad you're doing what you're doing. Also im in love with your voice 😂.
we have the same monotoneish voice and it really sucks when people bring it up. mine is so bad i can't even get hired. its just a trait that we have that is different. i personally cannot fix it no matter how hard i try. we shouldn't have to change our voices because others don't like it. it's a way of people wanting us to conform to society and shit. keep being you, man
dude your voice is so nice. i can fall asleep to your vids. love the chill vibe. don’t change what you’re comfy with just cause one person doesn’t like it!
I prefer your voice over the "ALRIGHT VIEWERS, YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY WHILST I WAS PLAYING [redacted], SIT BACK, SMASH THAT LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT AS WELL ABOUT IF SOMETHING". Just do what you do, feels more genuine, plus like this one other fella in the comment section said, some people want a video to have in the background or to sleep with, so you are helping us in many ways, I am just legit watching as I have never fully played this game and haven't gotten further than just being revived by friends after dying early.
PM alarms are the main reason that my phone stays in military time lmao. Fucked up too hard once or twice and now I just can't make that mistake anymore lol.
Man i don't know you and haven't seen any other videos you have made (yet) but i like your style and enjoyed this video also i like how you don't talk like other UA-camrs with exaggerated reactions
i liked the part where you were impersonating an enthusiastic youtuber, i'd be nice if you did that untill your soul crumbled into ash and was scattered by wind across your room
for everyone who doesn't wanna hear it the cliche youtuber bit ends at 21:38!
💀
You're a life saver
Thanks, that helps. I don’t wanna be mean, but I prefer non cliche you.

Not sure if this needs to be clarified but the apology about being boring was a joke lol. The "entertaining" bit was also very painful for me to do.
After reading multiple comments looks like everyone took you seriously. But everyone seems to like you the way you are, including me. Don’t change for a bit, that’s why we like you !
Yea, I like you because you’re not like that, unlike some other UA-camrs I could mention.
And it was very painful to watch/hear 😊

As I have seen in other comments, and I totally agree, your voice if anything makes the videos very relaxing. Just be yourself man
your "entertainer" bit almost made me break down in tears
“Oh I love this guy, I love him so much, what a, oo, I-I just, err, eh, ghahah, rurhehirhrh”
you had me on the floor with this one.
im very drunk and cant sleep. i love you and this video. i also heavily relate to the incorrect alarms
🤔Can tell ur drunk
I don’t know what you mean
But no judgement
Lol, the incorrect alarms are probably because you're drunk. 😂
But for real, I don't drink anymore and still put alarms for the wrong time of day.

we have the same monotoneish voice and it really sucks when people bring it up. mine is so bad i can't even get hired. its just a trait that we have that is different. i personally cannot fix it no matter how hard i try. we shouldn't have to change our voices because others don't like it. it's a way of people wanting us to conform to society and shit. keep being you, man
dude your voice is so nice. i can fall asleep to your vids. love the chill vibe. don’t change what you’re comfy with just cause one person doesn’t like it!
Happy new year mate!
I love hearing the risk of rain 2 soundtrack in videos. Such a good choice.
Really great video Ashlox! I didn't know that game mode existed. Your editing is top notch as well. Keep up the good work man!
i just started plaing dont starve and cant get enough of the game i palyed it years ago but i didnt know anything i love these videos please do more !
This man knows about Risk of Rain music. Man you are amazing ❤❤❤
17:57 I like your normal self lol imma like the video for your cool vampire boyfriend voice!
The way I had to pause the video at the bit and then resume the next day speaks to how painful that was lol Plz don't, we watch you for the monotone.
lets goooo!!! We are legit starving for Uncompromising Mode content over here.
Totally feel you on the am-pm alarm syndrome 😂
if this guy ever makes asmr content, its over for female asmrtists
this gotta be one of the funniest youtubers
The rain formerly known as purple Chris made a 7 minute song for one of the best games ever risk of rain 2 is the game stage 5 sky meadow
your dulcet tones and lack of youtuber reactions are why i watch you. i need you to never do that again. luv you xoxo
How tf the funniest don’t starve youtuber so unpopular? U r WAY TOO underrated and i soon more people will see you
I'm drinking my coffee while watching this... does that count as eating little court jester?
PM alarms are the main reason that my phone stays in military time lmao. Fucked up too hard once or twice and now I just can't make that mistake anymore lol.
You don't have to say sorry to anyone bro, your videos are entertaining and i love em
Try, Graveyard Keeper next, if you want to
wow that sure was uncompromising
This video is genuinely so entertaining, I love this
def not boring lol, love your content and i hope you continue this way
Finally a dst UA-camr i can get behind
Man i don't know you and haven't seen any other videos you have made (yet) but i like your style and enjoyed this video also i like how you don't talk like other UA-camrs with exaggerated reactions
i liked the part where you were impersonating an enthusiastic youtuber, i'd be nice if you did that untill your soul crumbled into ash and was scattered by wind across your room
omg its a christmas miracle ily ashlox
