Goonbeam has been around for 2-3 years. Before the Protac HL-X pro came out, it really was a good value. Now, for the same price that is my go to recommend for a budget light
I might have been a good value, but the HLX Pro is just better.
@@FocusTripp it definitely was an upgrade to my older streamlight hlx's. But it seems they changed the emitter without telling anyone since my newer one actually has a brighter and tighter hotspot than my old one.
With the streamlight pro out they might have to do something with their sft40 light and start selling it with a scout body and tail cap.

I got one of these to check out and compared it to surefire and modlite and Id bet if tested on meters, their numbers are totally false. The pics on the website are nowhere near what I saw with fresh batteries. Theyre just cheaper kockoffs of streamlight products. Id never buy or recommend with other options out there better and cheaper. Reliability wasnt something I looked at as I gave it to a friend of mine, but it flickered and kicked down in power after a very short time as well
My stream lights can have a little flicker during recoil but it's very minor.

Good on you for making this response to the comments on your last WML vid. I saw the Goon Beam comments there, I also had never heard of them until then.
I don’t think I’ll be running to buy one now. If they were vastly outperforming other WML’s for cheaper, I’d still have to get over the cringe factor of anything named “Goon”.
I’ll be sticking with Arisaka/Malkoff on my long guns (even though they cost more) and Streamlight’s on my handguns.
I might check out their V2 in the future.

Definitely hapoy with the pro i picked up. The tail cap, pressure switch, and beam are awesome and for 1/3 the cost of a surefire or cloud def.
I have their hand held light that I use for duty. When compared to my squad mates cloud defensive light, it’s 80%-90% as good for a third of the price. So far a year of regular work use (dropped a few times no crazy durability testing) it’s great for dark tints.

That's basically how they market their whole product line. It's both helpful and disappointing to see that they don't live up to it on the v1. One question the review left me with is when the V1 released vs the light he compared it to. I get that the review is present day value comparison. But it is not clear to me whether the V1 was 90 percent performance at 1/3 the price of the competition when released, or more like 2/3...
@@GunFunZS the v1 seem fine as a rifle light. I know their pistol light v1 I got that and I don’t like it compared the a actual tlr1 I think the v2 with more linens and less candela would be better for their pistols. I just really like the handheld it’s good for sketchy cars with dark tints the high candela penetrates to give a small beam to look around.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but you can use the Streamlight to Surefire tailcap adapters from Arisaka. Ive got one on my light (its one of the long ones I forget which version) and it works great with all my caps and switches.

Have you heard of or have any experience with another Chinese brand called Trustfire? I was curious and purschased one of their rechargeable weapon lights from the Bay called the GM23 ("800" lumen) for about $32 just to give it a go because I heard someone recommend them for the money.
I have to say, I was quite impressed by the build quality and light output. Liked it so much I bought their latest model, the GM35 "1350" lumen ($45). It's a powerhouse for the cost.. I'm really impressed with them so far. However I havent used them extensively or tested durability wise yet. Would like to see you test them and get your opinion. They are definitely suited towards home defense though because I'm pretty sure no one makes a holster for em..

I own an old Powetac Warrior flashlight, a very underrated company. It has 800 lumens, can't remember candescent, but the throw is over 450 meters, great center beam and enough flood on either side, the flashlight is solid. There is even a video of the exact flashlight on YT where a guy runs over it, throws it on concrete multiple times and the shoots it with a 12g shotgun and the thing is like an old timex, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Bought it in 2016 at a gunshow when I was up visiting in NC, they are a local company there, but has not let me down. They have I think the Warrior G5 out now but have seen no reason to replace the one I have, does have a Lifetime Warranty. For around the same price as these ones you are reviewing I would definitely look into The Powertac line of flashlights. 👍

Light comparison made me sad, I wanted the Goonbeam to be great. What made me happy though was halfway into the video, with the validation I received knowing that you drive a minivan haha

A Protac Hlx-1000 is 135 on amazon. I don't see the point unless you're a Gooner wanting to play with your Goonbeam at night. Which is odd, btw(I didn't know).

I picked up the GB V1 last Labor Day for $99 shipped. At that price point I’m happy with it. But this video just makes me want to buy a Pro now.
I did talk to GB after this video and their Gen 2s may be better.

I'm weird, in that I do the SPRs at night thing, as such it's a strong requirement that what you want is a very high candela light with very little spill in the near field. The main reason why, is when you shoot at night, even smokeless powder leaves a bit of "smoke" that will reflect that spilled light and make a fast follow-up shot more difficult. My answer to that has been using LEP lights, both the Zbolt Blazer as well as the Olight Valkyrie Turbo. The Zbolt is easily capable of lighting up white-painted steel targets past 800yds, it's difficult to see with the naked eye, but a decent scope will work fine, I do recommend a lit reticle for any kind of night shooting. The Valkyrie Turbo is good enough for a carbine type light, you can sorta make due at 600, but it's more like a 300-400yd light depending on conditions.
For those applications I think a LEP makes sense
I bought both the V1 and the V2 and 100% agree with your assessment. The V2 is not bad, and it does work with Streamlight tailcaps. I think it made more sense before the HL-X Pro arrived.

Fuckin finally. Ran my Goonbeam EDC V1 and Short V1 in a low light class on Tuesday and they killed it. Everyone was impressed, even my instructor who was using Modlite/Surefire.
My Long V1 rivals my OKW, the only part it doesn't match it in is CRI.
PS. I guess this is more a debate on where does the benefits of Candela start to fall off, and the benefit of more lumens start to gain ground. If someone wanted more lumens, then the V2 would be the right move. It of course should be noted that Goonbeam is working on new versions because they understand that they have competition. Prior to the HLX Pro, I feel if you grabbed the Long V1/V2 on sale like I did, then it's a great deal (more like 105 shipped).
The V2 is the better overall light I would imagine. Before the Pro though as you say they would've looked much better.
I would look at the Thrunite Ratel for a decent budget WML. Theyre very inexpensive and Thrunite is generally very good quality wise for a chinese light company

I own the Streamlight Pro-Tac rail mounted HL-X Pro(fucking stupid ass long name) and it rules.
I’ve been pretty happy with the V2 but don’t have much to compare it to. I have an HLX now so might see how it compares.
Disappointing to see to say the least but better that we know.
It's much better at distance than the old HLXs, but the Pro is just the better light.

I have a rein 1.0 and a SL hlx , inside 50 yards they look kinda similar but when i took them out to the country and shined them through a field the rein definitely kicked the SL’s butt. At 3ish times the cost of kinda expect that though,i kinda decided that i don’t really need to light up the next town though and the SL works just fine.

@@FocusTripp that's odd. I damaged the tape switch I had so just used streamlight one. I believe one of the newer ones with the warding around the constant on switch.
Either way I'm a fan of goon beam in general and own a the v1 and a few assault flashlights. But I do agree that the hlx pro might be a better choice for those not looking for all the candela on the planet. Maybe the v2 might do as well.

I was researching the company and read somewhere that the owner said the purpose of the company was to up-charge gun guys with drop-shipped Chinese lights. Not sure how true this is.
It's 100% true. I found the EDC lights he sells on AliExpress quite easily under the "Convoy" brand. The "Assault" handheld he sells for $129 is nothing more than a rebranded AMUTORCH XT35, which can be purchased from AMUTORCH for $50.

Don’t know why people just get the gen 2 or new gen 3 wmlx and run it at the 12 o’clock, do it on 3 rifles and havnt had an issue with any of them.
I had a bad experience with Inforce lights. I broke 2 of them pretty easily through normal use. Streamlight actually has a very similar style rifle light (TLR RM1 and RM2) for a comparable price, it's it's much better. Aluminum body and much better output.
Yeah I’ve seen those and they are really sweet. I’ll probably get one when the wmlx craps out on my fighting rifle

Sft40 on a convoy of any size try the L21b or the C8+for rifle light or carry there Chinese as flied rice but there very reasonable and put down most lights on the market on top of the fact you can by upgrade parts and replacement parts for super cheap its like a mr potato head for flash lights the ones i got are from allie express i realize its Chinese but im beginning to think the knock offs are being bought by the original companies and sold as there own priced way up beings you can by them so cheap. Sft40 sft70 are a solid emitters these convoy lights are actually incredible once you buy one you will understand how things could be vs how things are being ripped off by all these navy seal tool box GRIFFTOR douchee flash in the pants triple operator double dragon thorn raptor black widow darkness lazer fire slayer of black ness super fire flash bang lights that are way over priced because of hard asss name and colorful packaging flashy stickers. I love all flashlights a little but there is no reason they should cost with a mount and decent switch 400 dollars.

Olight's aren't brighter. There are a few tests proving that Goonbeam punches up with Surefire, Modlite, CD and others.
