You’d like the original version even better. This bloke has written pointless lyrics that don’t appear in the original, and fails to creator the songwriter, Rita MacNeil of Nova Scotia, Canada.

And in Scotland my dad was a miner for 41 years. He got 10 years working for Philips and although he only brushed up glass from the light bulbs he was in the sun and in his glory.

We moved from the London to Ollerton ( Nottinghamshire ) and not having mines like here down south, I never properly appreciated what the miners went through , The other day we went to Bilsthorpe Heritage centre, and had a guided tour. Well we left there totally different people, our admiration for all connected with the pits cannot be put into words,.
It is lovely hearing the " old stories" of life back then, but one thing stands out head and shoulders above anything else is the hatred the strikes of the 80's had back then and is still as strong as even now, it split whole families up let alone communities, and to this day some folk won't talk to their own brother because of the divide it caused.
    So sad.

I cannot imagine! I have Irish heritage. I listen to this and see the lost helpless look in their eyes, so sad. I have worked all my life, but nothing like a coal mine.❤️

Nice version. It's sad when you actually read the lyrics. My grandfather was a coal miner in Cape Breton. His brothers sang with the men of the deeps. Brings back memories of my childhood when we would have kitchen parties at my nanny's. Good old days.

This song was originally written by Rita McNeil from Cape Breton Nova Scotia. She got gold for it and was very popular in Canada before her death in 2013. The song was written and recorded in 1988. Mr. Alexander has a beautiful voice for this song but please give credit where credit is due to Rita McNeil.

Thank you for posting the "Working Man" song this way! This song is dear to my heart and I did work in #26 colliery in Cape Breton. The stories I could tell you would make the hairs on your back stand up. My workplace was more than 5 miles down a slope mine under the North Atlantic Ocean and the memories will stay with me to my grave.
