    Whatever you do, do NOT EVER use aluminum around lye! Puts off H² gas, very explosive, flammable, exceedingly unpopular with first responders.....
    Just ask the Modern Rogue....(video: how todissolve a body in lye, IIRC)

      LOL yeah, I was given a stainless steel pan which I used to make soap. Turns out it wasn't steel but aluminium. The reaction was pretty intense.

    Probably best to use a s/steel container as when adding water to the caustic will produce a lot of heat, which may melt plastics.... Pretty cool stuff Chris, thanks for the video 👍🤓✌️

    Ooooooh BUDDY! I’m gonna go dissolve some rocks in my garage right now! 😀😀
    Hopefully there’s some gold in my rocks….doubtful. Still, should be fun.. 😉

    Useful, it makes sense that heatin g it would speed up the reaction but also raises the cost of doing it, so making a strong solutionand leaving it to make us all feel impatient is a brilliant money saver.

    Hi Chris, love your videos. One suggestion is that the rock would be better submerged in the caustic soda solution. And probably best to stay away from the plastic stuff.

    Alum powder will dissolve the steel as well used it to melt studs out of an aluminum head before

    Just be careful as the gas given off by caustic is hydrogen gas. Its probably not a problem in the small amounts you used here, but if someone scales it up things can get loud 🤣
    You can also run power through it, using a car battery or a transformer putting one side to the tank, and the other through your stone. It works a lot quicker

    Always add caustic to water, not water to caustic. If it is a more confined vessel there is potential for explosion.

    Cool stuff, heat increases the reactivity but heat don’t come free!

    Probably a good idea to add a safety warning;
    Caustic soda will destroy skin and eyes just as easily, wear gloves, wear eye protection and don't do this in glass or aluminium containers
