So happy you mentioned Longchamp! I love my le pliage bag in deep lilac with a brown flap. It’s been one of my favorite office bags for years now and it still looks beautiful. Thank you for this lovely quiet elegant video. Your sense of timeless class and style is unbeatable.
What you said about the airport is so true. I love traveling with my Birkins in business but last time I did I felt the stares… I usually don’t care but it is true that people view you a certain way! I always think about the tweet that’s like “It just started raining and my client just pulled a Coach bag out of her Birkin and put the Birkin in the Coach bag” LOL
For me quiet luxury bag is a bag from under-the-radar brand, no logo, one that is not easily recognizable, IYKYK vibes, brands that are not pushed all over the social media. Longchamp Le Pliage doesn’t fall into that category for me, as it’s a very popular style under Longchamp. Quiet luxury bag brands for me are Valextra, Serapian, Alaia, Moynat, Delvaux, Old Celine
Just happened across your channel yesterday when googling a designer, one of your informative yet cheeky pronunciation guides popped up, and I subscribed instantly without even seeing any more of your content. I’ve now watched more of your videos, have been thoroughly enjoying your content, and look forward to consuming much more of your backlog. I went to college in the mid oughts in Boston at a very expensive college, and Longchamp’s Le Pliage was THE “book bag” to be seen slung over one’s shoulder to complete the “New England rich girl” uniform of juicy or VS PINK sweats (or a pair of “it” designer denim and a Lacoste sweater if you were feeling fancy), Uggs or Hunter boots, North Face jacket, and finished with a messy bun to remind us all that you just effortlessly threw the look together, lest we get the wrong impression based on the freshly applied Chanel Glossimer and heavily spritzed Chanel Chance or Coco Madmoiselle and think you spent hours carefully cultivating this look (which you did). I was not one of the “rich girls”, and even if I had been, I wouldn’t have been caught dead in that omnipresent uniform. I hated that stupid Pliage bag. I couldn’t understand spending over $100 on a nylon bag that wasn’t particularly attractive and was clearly not intended to hold heavy college text books, simply for the status of the brand. Now, I have multiple Le Pliage bags & accessories including the ludicrously cliché Eiffel Tower emblazoned edition from the Paris boutique l, and I do now get the hype. The bags are durable, extremely lightweight, foldable, washable, and comfortable without looking slovenly. I do see where you’re coming from in suggesting it as “quiet”, as they are quite subtle in the branding and understated in design, yet I would argue that Le Pliage is too close to the infamy of an “it bag” to qualify as “quiet luxury” in the same way as how even though a 2.55 reissue may be free of obvious branding, it’s still too iconic to qualify as “quiet”. More importantly, though Le Pliage is polished and practical, I’m not sure if it’s really very luxurious. It’s basic, nylon, designed for function over form, and not particularly enticing to the senses. All the whole, it’s still a bit of a name drop to wear one since the style is so well known. After reflecting more on the subject, i tend to lean towards suggesting a lesser known bag from a mid-range brand, but it needs to be a sumptuous leather and beautiful design to provide a luxurious experience the senses whenever it’s used along with being practical and multi-functional. It must be subtle, yet entice one to smell, touch, and let the eyes linger on the craftsmanship and quality materials. I would suggest a classic archival Coach full leather bag in British Tan or taupe (maybe something like Willis to wear cross body during the day and then remove the strap to wear over the arm for evening) , or perhaps a buttery soft pebbled leather Cole Haan with almost non-existent branding. For an Italian classic, perhaps an understated yet polished Furla in a color thats only slightly more daring than brown or black (perhaps deep teal or berry) . Even Longchamp would work with one of their full-leather bags in a less ubiquitous silhouette than Le Pliage. Though if we’re going French, I’d tend to lean towards a slightly more obscure brand - perhaps Milo Classic or another understated design from Sézane. Though, perhaps the ultimate “quiet luxury” bag would be an artisan made nameless, brand-less, plush, fragrant, full-grained leather bag straight from the source in Florence. It could be almost any color so long as the design is understated, timeless, and versatile.
yes!!!! I always say this, balance is key....applies to makeup application also. I always love a smaller bag that doesn't weigh me down when I go out socialising. I carry very little when I go out these days. a couple of cards, one pair of sunnies, and one lippie or lipbalm and maybe one little bottle of hand sanitiser.
As for the Longhcamp Le Pliage bag, I'm a big fan of that bag. I have over a dozen of the small leather ones in different colors, six in the medium size, two in the large size , and one in the mini size. I use all of the sizes for travel except for the mini one. Plus, I can pack different colors as they fold flat and easily fit into my suitcase. One doesn't have to worry about them getting smashed. I own everything from standard colors to bright colors. I started buying leather Le Pliage bags over a decade ago. I also have other styles of Longchamp bags. As for my Le Pliage bags, I'm able to put a lock on all of them if I need to. I'm used to traveling all over the world and that bag works for me. It's not flashy, is incredibly durable, doesn't set off customs red flags, and fits what I need to store in it. I've also traveled with non-Longchamp bags as I've been traveling overseas regulalry since my high school days, five decades ago. Situations change and back in the day, I could travel more easily with high-end designer bags as a lot of people didn't know what they were. But, now with the internet, folks knowing about a lot of high-end bags, and also know the very elevated prices of a lot of high-end bags nowadays, one needs to be more cautious, for safety reasons, with what one carries. I never leave home without one of my small leather Le Pliage bags to carry on the plane to use as a handbag and the larger leather one to use as a carry-on bag for the overhead compartment as it's the same length as the overhead compartment if stored vertically. Plus, all of my Longchamp Le Pliage bags have shoulder straps. Quite handy. Longchamp no longer makes that leather carry-on size Le Pliage as I recently looked on the internet to try to find one for a friend's daughter. The friend's daughter just graduated from high school and will be traveling overseas this summer. But, I have highly suggested that she carry the small leather Le Pliage as her travel handbag. I gave her one of my small ones a few years ago since I had accidentally bought two in almost the same color. I shop both here at home and overseas. When I'm out running around in overseas places, I use the small one. And when I get caught in hard tropical rainstorms, like in Southeast Asian destinations, I don't have to worry about the bag as it can withstand harsh elements. It can also easily withstand other extreme weather situations. I love handbags and have them by a lot of different companies, but use different ones in different situations. However, I don't use my leather Longchamp Pliage bags for evening wear as they would not fit in with what I'm wearing. I then switch over to other bags that I own. As for this quiet luxury concept, I'm not really into that, but am more into which bag might be best in whatever situation I might find myself and also which bag might be best as far as the situation and safety concerns. Great topic for discussion, Dacob. I really enjoy your vlogs. Greetings from Los Angeles
Fun and thought provoking video! Oddly I had just ordered and received the small top handle Longchamp LePliage in brown as a grab and go bag for rainy season!!!! Sad I missed the LIVE on this this one! Thanks so much Dacob!!!🥰
You're not wrong, Dacob. I have the LongChamp Pliage in red. Great day and travel bag but I won't wear it for the evening. I think a number of LV bags that have been discontinued do well as very versatile day-to-night bags as well as travel, especially if they come in Epi Leather that doesn't have logos all over. I'm talking about the Monceau, Brea , Soufflot, Saint Cloud and bags of that ilk. Being secondhand/vintage (that's the only way you can get them anyway) means they're not expensive either and they're not as easily recognisable as LV because they're not trendy but you have that quality.
Le pliage médium with the small straps? In all colours and the best for travelling 🥰🙌🏾 I wear one in navy blue or red when I travel to colder places and colourful ones for anywhere hot and sunny, it's dark orange and army green 🥰
My friend , months ago, I saw a video : a fashion journalist, she put his Chanel Classic flap inside her big bag , so I went to USA and I put my Speedy 25 inside canvas tote and that’s it
Come to think of it your right with regards to the Longchamp Le Pliage bags. I have few in different sizes and colours, which I hardly reach for to be honest. I also think Demellier(or Milli Millu before the name change) is another great quiet luxury bag brand. Put my favourite has to be the Loewe Puzzle bag. It can see you through from day to night and is great for travelling with x
Love Longchamp. Have 2 of the large nylon for travel and 1 of the large city canvas for hauling work around. Different functions but enjoy them all. And if it rains the Speedy is going in it lol
Thank you! So nice that you’ve mentioned Coach, they have some pretty nice handbags. I’ve recently bought a beautiful Rogue 20 with tea rose in the color pink for a thousand dollars on the official website (I tend to avoid the outlet). It is a ‘be seen’ bag and I’ve received several compliments 🙂 I own other Coach numbers and I have no regrets! The quality is amazing and they are super cute!
I ❤️ Longchamp Le Pliage. It's the only bag that I repurchased after it was stolen and in 2 different sizes. I also just purchased the Le Energy crossbody and it's my weekend bag because it's too small as a work bag. It's truly universal!
In Asia Longchamp le pliage bags are more ubiquitous than the Neverfull. Everyone and their grandma has one. Don't get me wrong, I love my longchamp bags but in Asia they're just not considered a quiet luxury 😂
Maybe because they are so widespread, they are quiet luxury! Nobody says luxury is only for a select few rich. Thats a very old and outdated vision and perception of luxury and unfortunately I see this very antiquated understanding of luxury mostly in Asian countries. You need to update your standards. Lol
I was first introduced to Longchamp by my aunts in Hong Kong. Le Pliage totes were often carried by See Lais back then even though I think to this day, they’re still popular. I have a few Le Pliage totes but only carry them on rainy days.
Hi Dacob, I agree with all the other criteria, but Le Pliage to me is purely a day bag. I cannot see myself carrying Le Pliage to dinner. 😮 I agree with Delvaux or the other under-the-radar brands.
I have my 2006 Longchamp bag and wish the leather would have held up better. I haven't used it in five years, pulled it out and the surface coating is starting to crinkle. Ah well, my CPW is super low!
@@SuperDacob leather. It's the Roseau. I remember wanting a classy bag that wouldn't go out of style and the sales person turned me into it. I will try to snap a picture of the leather, see what people might think. My guess is some sort of coating/finish that has started to break down.
I love my Longchamp Le pliage bags! I own four of them. My favorite is the small Le pliage. I can't walk into a Longchamp store because I'll be tempted to buy every color. And yes I'm that lady, that would! 😂 I've mostly been using my Le pliage bags the past few months. It's not my evening bag, but they've been my everyday bag lately.
The LV speedy is not quiet luxury but it is a classic bag. That bag & the neverfull is way to saturated in the market, I see it everywhere in Southern Cali especially in the Airport. The YSL Manhattan bag is definitely a quiet luxury, but it is similar (wanna be) to the Kelly. My sa did say the Manhattan in smooth leather is really delicate and wear/tear (scratches) is really noticeable. I did not know Longchamp makes some of their bags in China...for some reason I am not feeling Longchamp nor Prada...I hate the nylon feeling, it is saggy, not structured & difficult to organize my stuff inside the bag.
There are awesome Longchamp bags that are not made in that shiny nylon like Prada bags bit are instead made of a more cottony woven opaque material instead. Those are my favorite ones.
I think Longchamp is for a young girl in teens and twenties that she’s “in the club” but is too young to be sporting a more expensive bag. It’s like Coach when I was in my 20’s … 30 years ago.
I have to disagree on this one, Dacob. I am Belgian, and grew up with "old money" etiquette. Longchamp Le Pliage is considered here as a day bag/work bag, carefree. Not versatile suited (just a bit of bcbg genre). No one here would dream to bring this as an evening bag to dinner or event. It would be an insult to the host that you didn't bother to think your outfit through. The bag is just too flimsy. Even in France only very few people would dare to use this as an evening bag. The Delvaux Brilliant is of course our holy grail bag in Belgium 😊, but even that one isn't suitable for all occasions (not a travel bag at all). So brand wise, yes, they both are quiet luxury, but look further in their lines than just their flagship models. Oh, you might want to look into the bags of Polène and Isabel Bernard. I am curious what you think of them, do these fit into your quiet luxury standards? Great topic again my friend, you never disappoint! ❤
I think the Delvaux. Most people have no idea that it’s anything and it looks beautiful and it is luxury
Delvaux is the new “it” brand even though they’ve been Lux before Hermes
So happy you mentioned Longchamp! I love my le pliage bag in deep lilac with a brown flap. It’s been one of my favorite office bags for years now and it still looks beautiful. Thank you for this lovely quiet elegant video. Your sense of timeless class and style is unbeatable.
Thank you so much cindy 🙏🏻🥰💖
I have Le Pliage in all the different sizes. Love ‘em. So practical and durable. Being foldable makes them great for travel, too.
They are super sturdy too 🥰
Doesn't steal the show
Love it ❤️
