Once every year the signal box would have an open day where you could go in and the traffic lights just before turning onto the crossing from where the station is would go red just before the crossing activated unless people pushed the button (Living there is a nightmare I don’t recommend it)
As far as I know the box still opens a good few times a year. I remember going up on one when I was young and would love to again tbh. I am aware of the traffic light integration here.
