Subscribed! Not because of the squirt but because of your buddy. Your husky 🤩
You are so kind
Great video. Bought squirt this weekend and now to wait for delivery. Gonna have lots of fun cleaning all my bikes to get this on. Hopefully this will be the end of cleaning oily chains and using degreaser 😂 soap and water only sounds amazing and much easier
Great vid. I'm trying my luck with this tomorrow. Only went through 2 jars of chain cleaning today as I didn't have more at home, but if I notice any buildup I will give the chain the full treatment as you showed later after scavenging the grocery store for pickles lol
haha love them pickles..
Farsports wheels forever. Thanks for the useful tips man
You bet!
Hi from.Bucharest!u are profesional biro😇
Hey, thanks!
I’m in your area(Ann Arbor). I’m planning on getting a KOM on one of your KOM’s. Had no idea that you had a UA-cam channel. Awesome
Awesome!! Bring it records were meant to be broken...
I have that same red and black KMC chain. Couldn’t resist it when I saw it.
But he's got red nipples on black wheels, too ;-)
Think I used too much, but maybe didn't quite clean it well enough. It felt pretty good and the acetone I used after overnight degreaser was very clear. But I read about people complaining it being noisy / viscosity making it hard to penetrate so I thought I'll just be really generous! Did 5 applications with bigger drops than you were doing.
Didn't wipe off before my ride and finished with still tons of waxy shit, pretty. Brand new cassette, chain, derailleur and chain rings pretty clean beforehand. It seems a bit black, but I'm hoping after a few rides it'll sort it self out.
Anyway, thanks for this video, wish I saw it last night!
All good, to much can't hurt.. Thanks for stopping by..
Thank you for your video.
I will add that the issue with squirt that its not penetrate good to the inner parts of the chain (per few research in the web) and what i do to overcome this issue is to add 15%-20% of regular water in to the bottle.
This make it thinner.
Then i apply it as a stream over the chain on the cassette so not dripping on the floor too much and then pedal for 2-3 moments so can penetrate well.
Then wipe the chain or wipe it only the morning after , before the ride.
Thanks again.
Great vlog! Keep it up. How about a follow up review on your tubeless tires, chain etc. after some mileage?
Will do! Thanks for stopping by Mark!!
great videos, i subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Good video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Great detail in the video, curious to know what your thoughts on the Farsport wheels and what size did you get?
Hey Mike, Absolutely love the carbon wheels.. I got the Kaze 50mm.. Got about 1500 miles on them now.. I'm gonna do a review on them soon... Thanks for stopping by!!!
Nice work mate - very detailed. You should definitely overlay some TOOL on your next video 🤘
Has been and always will be my favorite band!!!
My chain start oily after miles of rides. Is it i am doing something wrong during wax? Can i re-degrease again my chain? As indicated at the bottle label, do not degrease. Or just need to wipe off the oil residue with cloth?
Mt. Olive pickles are the best. :)
Have you done a video on cleaning your bike with consideration of the already applied squirt lube? Is it okay to get the chain soapy with squirt on the chain? Or do you totally clean the chain and start the process all over again?
Hey Frankie I always wipe the chain clean before I apply the squirt.. I just use a micro fiber towel... Seem to work well
Hope all is well brother!
Have you seen the Silca secret chain wax lube,, should be similiar? Any difference between Mineral spirts and what you use?
Mineral spirits will leave a oily residue.. Denatured alcohol will not..
I just did this and believe I put too much on. When I ran it up and down the cassette, I see there is a bit of wax on the cassette. I’m likely expecting this wax in the cassette will either flake off after drying or will gunk up. Do you get build up in the cassette when you do this?
After you ride not really... It cant hurt.. unless its packed with dirt!!
I live in an apartment and I don't have a backyard, so I can't use gasoline. Can straight simple green also work to completely degrease a chain? Maybe it just takes more effort and time?
John Deere Multi-Purpose Degreaser. 32 oz for about 8 bucks. I go to the local dealer. Don’t know if it’s online. Way out cleans Simple Green.
I would like to ask if can I still use degreaser on the chain that has lube (squirt) on it after a muddy ride, rain or every time I wash my bike? Because it says on the bottle that I should not use degreaser.
You shouldn't need to use Degreaser, because there should be no grease on you chain.. Just use soap and water.. Then reapply the squirt so chain doesn't rust.
Thank you sir! 😉
I was up riding the forest trails, and well dirty. I used the stand pipe with hose in the campsite, and just used that with a brush, no soap, only water. Perfect.
Thanks for the follow up.
I send squirt and email a while back they replied.
Mentioning that if you have some tackiness is ok that mean there Wax still in there. So I guess is not 💯 % dry lube.
So I guess if you use a small amount you would not have any tacky feeling.
And I did a clean similar to yours degreaser, mineral spirit and denatured alcohol every step a few bath with new liquid. The chain was strip of all oils as I could hear the metal on metal noise as i rotated the chain before I applied Squirt.
I do have some build up around the rear derailleur wheels and front chainrings.
I did use a bit more I would use much less next time.
But this lube is amazing I shifted the front and it was super quiet before I could tell it shifted by the noise. I am sold.
So it seem that if you clean it like this and you end up having a tacky/gummy feeling is Ok you just applied a bit heavy but by any means is wrong. You might have more build up but according to Squirt you just add more lube on top.
Waiting for them to clarify if I have to use a rag or brush before I add more lube.
If you want to minimize the build up it is very very simple-
After you put squirt generously and pedal for few moments to let it penetrate- you need to clean all the stuff from the chain with a dry rag/cloth.
That way squirt will be inside the inner spaces in the chain and not on the outer surface so chain will look cleaner on the outside.
Thats all :)
By the way i 'rag' it the morning after i applied-feels smoother.
עוז יונגרמן thanks, a would give it a try that way
If you use Squirt lube and ride in wet conditions what are your thoughts and experiences..
I live in Ireland so it's wet a lot of the time, last weekend I rode 114km in heavy rain and the chain was still smooth and quiet after it, the chain was freshly lubed with Squirt at the start. After the ride I gave it a good wash & dry before reapplying, I washed with Muc-Off cleaner. No problems at all really, this was my first use of Squirt in the wet after years of filthy chains / cassettes.
@@MrJwmurph keep me posted... Let me know if it starts to rust at all.. Just curious..
Is it important to cover all cassete cogs with this ....?
No I don’t think so. Just cross chaining the chain both ways should be enough. Or you might get build up on the cassette. Chain is only thing that really matters.
So do you ever lube the joints in the derailleurs?
Hey Scotty, yes for sure.. About every 1000 miles I'll give them a drop or 2.. I've got 12,000 miles on the bike and I've taken it apart once to clean and lube everything.. It's due for another.. Reminder I don't ride in the rain or on dirt roads.. Or I'd do it more often..
@@WayneDesilets using the same squirt lube right? Also, while I don’t start a ride in the rain what would happen if I get caught in a shower? Is it water soluble? Would I start over at that point? Thanks!
@Scotty Bingham The derailleur No. I actually use gun oil to lube all the pivot points on the derailleur. Think the wax would be a bad idea.
@@WayneDesilets Err, if it's not electric, how do you know how many miles on it ? I have just bought a Cube Nuroad Pro gravel bike, and going to wax it tomorrow, thanks for your input.
@@tristramgordon8252 I use the element bolt computer to collect all my riding data
Nice wheels. Which model are they?
Hey Just Me, the wheels are the Farsport Kaze 50mm deep 26mm wide
@@WayneDesilets They sound amazing. What hubs are they? Test ridden the wheels yet?
@@jimmyhor78 hubs are the DT Swiss 240 exp.. I'm going to do a video on them soon.. Got about 400 miles on them already. Badd Ass!!! .. Hurt my ankle yesterday so i'm hobbling around.. Hopefully by Sunday ill have it posted
I've read a few times that some individuals are having problems with a slight excess of Squirt taking the paint off their bike frame. Sounds pretty crazy to me, and I'm wondering if anyone else had that experience? I'd think if that was truly an issue that the manufacturer would certainly do something. I'd love to give it a try but am a little concerned.
I really doubt that... its just wax and water... When is the last time wax has hurt car paint!!! Don't think so..
So i was thinking about your comment.. I bet who ever said the squirt was affecting there paint was the person who uses paint thinner or acetone to clean it off while still on the bike.. Just a thought
@@WayneDesilets I doubt it is just wax and water as wax is petroleum based and will not mix with water. I bet it’s wax and either alcohol or some other type of solvent.
@Mark Dinterman I've gotten it all over my paint in the last 2 years with out cleaning if off. Never an issue...
Wax and water...
✺ Clean ✺ Efficient ✺ Long Lasting ✺ Biodegradable ✺
We all like a clean, smooth-running and quiet drive train - even in dust and mud where we sometimes prefer to ride. Squirt does just that.
✺ Squirt lube is a wax in water emulsion, the first of a new concept in chain lubrication. When applied to the chain, the water evaporates leaving behind a solid layer of lubricating wax. This dry layer does not attract dirt or dust and the chain stays clean.
✺ Squirt contains different waxes for optimum performance, including efficient lubrication and adherence to the chain. Because its dry, build-up doesn't occur and no grinding paste forms, extending drive train life.
✺ As a drip lube, Squirt's efficiency is almost unrivaled. Various tests (on equipment measuring to one-fiftieth of a watt) have illustrated its ability to save watts, as indicated on the combined graph published in VeloNews (2013pdf, 2014pdf). Hunter Allan, specialist in saving watts confirms
Do you remember how much km lasted the KMC DLC chain?
Think I had around 2000 miles on the gold chain. And. It still tested good with chain tool. Have about 2000 miles on red chain and it’s still good.
@@WayneDesilets for that money need to Last 20000 miles
Agree!! still luv the bling though!! Sorry for the long delay in response time.. My bad..
So you ride six days a week but never ever in the rain? Do you live in the desert?
I’ve got a wahoo Kickr. Live in Michigan.
Why do you put it in alcohol after the degreaser? With a magner its easier to get the chain lock out of the jar.
To get the degreaser off.. Make sure its spotless!!!
@@WayneDesilets I thought that this is the job of the degreaser. I have seen other instruction videos. There they say if you use a degreaser you dont need alcohol.
@@Gieszkanne Pretty sure it doesn’t matter how you get to the end result as long as it’s as clean as can be!!
My chain becomes super noisy of this wax, do you experience this problem? How do you solve it?
Hi Rene, no my chain is no more noisy than an oiled chain.. Are your gear indexed properly..
Hi, indeed wax lubes will not mute the chain as an oil lubes do.
As per ceramic speed tests its not a sign of dry chain.
Tell you the truth this is annoying so i put the squirt after every 2 rides or after every 50 km so the noise kept to minimum.
Same here, but no issues with shifting or smoothness. I don’t know if I am wrecking my bike or is it all good
Chain manuals state not to use acidic solvents to clean the chain. Why?
My guess would be liability reasons. Do what manufacture says not some guy on UA-cam.
my drivetrain gets a little dirty, but its very noisy after 5 miles or so. could it be contamination ?
Humm, mine starts after about 50 miles or so.. Until then its butter smooth... Could be the dirt..
Wayne Desilets I removed my chain now and it’s sitting in petrol. Let me see how this works out
Keep me posted...
@@WayneDesilets It seems better but it still starts to make noise after like 10 miles but much quieter than before. My finger does get a little black when I rub it on the chain but it easily washes away unlike grease. I don’t really know if the sound is normal or if I am destroying my bike. Might just take it to the store that sold me squirt and get their opinion now
@@AnirudhSriram1995 petrol leaves a residue on the chain, hence the wax won’t stick.
I do a 3 step process.
1. Petrol soak (No difference between regular or high octane)
2. Degreaser soak and rinse.
3. Methylated Spirit soak, then let dry. The metho should be clear, if not, redial in metho until it is.
Then you know that there are no contaminants to prevent it sticking to the chain.
By the way I wax dip my chains, and successfully use this chain cleaning process.
Why the denatured alcohol? Can't you just rinse it off thoroughly with soapy water?
helps strip everything off... You can use what ever you like.. I got the best results doing this!!
@@WayneDesilets Thanks! I'll try it.
I did not know thats how you put a new cassette on.
hahaha thats the easy way... I've done it the hard way also
I've tried both squirt and smoove. Both are too noisy.
Try cleaning the whole drivetrain again. Squirt is always quiet for me.
@@blahqwe I'm hot waxing now. No need for squirt or smoove anymore
Does the degreaser, danatured alchohol and gas go in sane jar for recycling?
Aalcohol and gas would just evaporate I suppose. Or keep them for a dirtier chain...
Sure it's clean and there is no buildup for 100miles... It will definitely builds up on subsequent applications. Those little wax build up ends up all over the floor with time. I use squirt because it stays cleaner for longer, does not turn black and you don't have to degrease everything before a new application but it still gets dirty after 1000 miles and multiple application.
Yannick, say multiple applications and 1000 miles, what so you need to use, or what are you using to clean the cassette, chain and chainrings.
@@bobbendat8908 you are bringing up an other downside of squirt lubricant.. this thing is really hard to clean! Usually with park tool chain cleaner and degreaser it works well with conventional oil but with this stuff it sticks so I don't clean. I wipe out excess every now and then and just change the chain after around 3000 miles. I did try to clean it once but it takes time and a good rub so better when parts are off the bike. Important note, I'm talking about really clean, like, no residual at all.
No matter what type of lubricant you use.. I guarantee after 1000 miles its gonna need a good cleaning...
I use ceramic muck off (green bottle). Love it and no issues. To clean, just rinse off with a hose , dry up and relube. Super fast. I can’t see myself going through all that trouble. Just saying. To each his own. Just can’t ride in the rain though.
Thanks for sharing
I put a drop on every roller, that's it.. properly clean it and relube whenever I'm putting my bike on a trainer, otherwise flakes will be all over the floor
Hey Prinze Glnggi.. If you watch my first squirt vid.. You can see I put a towel under my cassette to catch the wax
flakes..
Just one point, it seems that first application of Squirt it should stay and 'dry' for 24h and then you can remove excess - if any. Imho.
I’ve never let it dry for 24 hrs. Never had any issues. Pretty sure directions say not to remove the original grease also. My guess that is for liability issues just in case the chain fails. This is the way I lube my chain. Don’t give a fuck what directions say. Lmao
@@WayneDesilets Thanks, good to know 'real life' experience - that will simplify my life too :) .
Shit, if I'd never ride in the rain/bad conditions i'd never get to riding at all... 60% of the time it's either raining or rained the day before or whatever here...
Bummer Kevin.. Time to move hahah
If the pulley wheels are full of crud it's because the lube isn't dry before riding.
Uaed this stuff. Was really noisy. Awful in fact . So heated it up amd seems ok ow
Soaking a rag with motor oil (any engine oil will do) and pulling the chain through it is all I do.
That's it.
Nothing else.
Repeat every week on rainy conditions and every month on dry conditions.
No special expensive chain oil, chain wax and no degreaser or anything else needed.
Motor oil has everything needed, it works not only as a lubricant but also as a detergent and rust inhibitor, it has anti wear components, too. In winter it's thin enough and in summer thick enough due to its viscostiy improvers it comes with when it is a multigrade oil which every motor oil nowadays is.
Like I said, everything ever needed is already in motor oil included.
There is no cheaper and more effective way to take care of your bicycle chain.
This is a video on wax chain lube.. Did you even watch the vid? Or are you just trolling and being an ass hat!!!
this bad sound of pulley wheels..awful
Excuse me?
