  • Fabric is expensive so choosing it for your next quilt is daunting if you are wary of what color goes with what. Feel more confident after studying the essential tool, the Color Wheel! Not just for artists, painters, designers or decorators, but in Quilting also! I give a few very simple basic tips in this video of how to use a Color Wheel in your sewing room.
Free quilting class and sewing lessons! And as in a 'classroom' setting, my tutorials are approximately 1/2 hour+ long....So Join me in my home sewing room making all sorts of quilted goodies! Be aware ~ I like to chat and probably repeat myself over and over, (and stutter sometimes), and if this annoys you, then view elsewhere - but, if patient, you hopefully will learn a new method or technique!

One of your best videos! I've seen color wheels for quilting lots of times -- most were even a more technical presentation. Seeing your fabric swatches was so much better than just seeing a color wheel card (and of course YOU would have enough fabric to get spot on perfect shades for a color wheel!) and the example quilts were so helpful. Thanks for taking the time to pull all this together. I plan to watch again!

Glad you enjoyed it! As I said, I certainly am no expert or even know most of the 'technicalities', but I do know what colors look nice together, and that is the basis of the color wheel! YAY!! Thanks for taking time to watch :)

I have watched too many color wheel fabric choices videos and still could not understand much. Some how the way you presented it turned my dim light bulb understanding into a flood light. Finally my color wheel will make sense as NOW I will truely know how to use it. I have dyslexia where it affects other areas like you explained in your other video. This was great Jean. It is the first time I have really understood the way colour changes and how white and black are used. I am a very visual person (have to see something being made to understand, no amount of reading fixes it in my brain ) . so thankyou so much for this practical example and the lovely quilts you included. I'm off with new confidence in my colour choices and will bear it in mind when I am following the quilt-along. Stay safe

This was so educational Jean, thank you. A joy to view all the various quilts accompanied by the soothing music. Would the bike and the writing have been a panel, and then you added the rest of the quilt? As an aside...Do you think Maxwell would like to try some moose dogs?! Back to colors... I’m looking at my new computer screen with all the different colored umbrellas thinking they would look great in a quilt. I ask you also again. When do you eat, sleep, cook, house clean, laundry? Moose dogs? Like in Moose Hot Dogs?!!? LOL! WOW!! He would love them ~ 'game' for anything!! I think my Dear Jean quilt center medallion will look a bit like my color wheel when I go to make it!! It will be a Dresden Plate, but I will most probably arrange the colors in the color wheel way! With the family all grown and moved out, I DO have time now during the day and with a smaller home I can get housework done quite quickly! Instead of running a small 'hotel' for what used to be 12 people including the cleaning, cooking, shopping and laundry for that lot ~ I am now just having to look after the 3 of us!! YIPPEE!!!!! LOL! So it's quite easy to get stuff done and then go and quilt! :)

Seeing you with your grandson was priceless. Maybe you will appreciate that my daughter had a box of clothes to give away by her front door. When he two year old son saw them he began to lay them flat on their coffee table and one by one slid them gently across as if guiiding them through a sewing machine saying, "Mom, I'm sewing!" Nothing like passing on the love of fabrics and our reliable machines.
I was introduced to a color wheel when taking interior design back in high school. Little did I know how valuable that information would be forty years later as I learn to quilt. This information is wonderful and the music sounded just like a music box. I loved it!
