    Passion is beautiful, don't kid yourself! My husband is never happier to be around me than when I'm all giddy over something I love doing.

    Yes yes yes!!! I needed this so badly! Thank you very much!! I usually would get fabric that I loved but then I would have difficulty in finding a pattern that looked good with it! Then I’m left with fabric not used 😫! I can’t thank you enough!

      Oh you must study it and take it with you to fabric stores! It really does the work for you and allows you to see just what goes with what - scientifically and visually! :) It really is a marvelous tool for quilters who have difficulty in choosing fabrics.

    Thank you, Jean. This is a basic step that I've overlooked for too long.
    My philosophy was: work with what I have, and see if I like it...after all, it's mostly scrap.
    Well, that doesn't always work very well. Now, I will go back to the beginning with new tools.🤓

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  7 років тому

      You said it...the first and foremost BASIC of basic steps in our quiltmaking journey!! Fabrics are expensive, but save those scraps and take a moment to group together those which go together, according to the color wheel!! :)

    I can't believe what I just learned from you on the color wheel. I had
    no idea how to use one. I'm sure getting one now and I will for sure
    start using it. You opened a new world for me. It will help me to
    add colors I thought might not go together. This was a great video🌷

    Thank you so very much for sharing your amazing knowledge with us Jean. I have always struggled with understanding the colour wheel, and it has now come out of my drawer and is sitting by my machine thanks to you! You explain everything so wonderfully, and I am now much more excited and confident in choosing colours by myself for my quilts instead of feeling overwhelmed by the vast choices and trying to work out what colour goes with what. Sending you lots of thanks and big smiles from England, and glad you enjoyed your roast dinner, my favourite! :)

    I have the Ultimate 3 in 1 colour tool. Its like a long fan book. Just hundreds of colours and that goes fabric shopping with me all the time. I need it as I am not confident in choosing. I been sewing for years (not quilts) and not got any better at fabric choosing🙇‍♀️😂😂.Thank you for a informative video.😀

    Thanks for this Jean. So you know, your channel has inspired me to re-start quilting again after years of neglect! My first project, to get me back into it, was a combination of two of your tutorials....I made a heatproof Dresden plate table topper. The blades are shades of deep rich maroon, the centre is gold.....your colour wheel shows me why it works!! Thanks again x

    Jean, I for one absolutely needed this. I am one of the ones that walks into a fabric store and get lost in all the colors, I will pick some and then when I get it home I discover it really doesn't go well together. I have heard of a color wheel but it never occurred to me to use one for choosing materials for quilting. So I want to say THANK YOU!!! so much for this video and I will be getting a color wheel before I go back to the fabric store. See what a good teacher you are? I sure do and this just further proves it.

    Another great tutorial. I must buy one for me.
    As you know I am a newbee and do not have lessons or any other option than watch and learn with you. So can you Tell me, please, what can I do with a 9 degree mini wedge ruler? it was a present and it is waiting for me.... Thanks and go on bubbling. 😊😊

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching me bubbling!! :) As yo know, the 9 degree ruler is used mostly for curved or circle created appliques, each wedge sewn to the next in a circular manner. That could be difficult for a beginner so I would suggest a small quilt-as-you-go method (perhaps a small runner) using the cut out pieces of wedges. I would alternate top/bottom every other one to achieve the size of runner. I have done a little tutorial a bit back on a Placemat Quilt As You Go. The same idea would apply but using your wedges. Perhaps you could refer to that? Remember to start small, even a small mug rug, to get the feel of what you are doing...that way you won't get discouraged. All the best!! And thanks again! :)

    I looked up a color wheel on Amazon, didn't buy it yet...I'm still confused. I'll watch this video again. You explain it well but I'm not getting something. My brain kinda understands the white and black thing but my thought it "white is boring" ...but you're telling me it makes things come alive. ?

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  7 років тому +1

      White 'livens' things as it ADVANCES your eye, jumps out at you, therefore adding a touch of 'sparkle' ..whereas black will "RECEDE'...and quiets surrounding blocks down.

    I gravitate towards warm colors when shopping for clothing because I do not look good in cool colors, but when I pick out fabric For quilts I gravitate towards cool colors. Weird huh?

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  7 років тому

      Color is an amazing thing!! I didn't want to go on TOO MUCH how it effects mood, energy, feelings, hunger, peace, disquiet..etc., and is surrounding us each day and affecting us each differently! So it is 'weird, but wonderful, your choices!!! :)

      I know what you mean. I feel like such a geek because I like to go to places and see the colors used in stores and especially restaurants. It’s amazing how they design a space and the colors used can trick our palette to eat more and spend more

      Red is my favorite color - the color used in LOTS of dining places - increases appetite supposedly - oh dear - my kitchen and family room are red - and I am 50 pounds overweight!!! I confirm that theory!!! YIKES!!! :)
