amazing how u can watch a video, and then find it again several months later after practise and realise you've still essentially learnt something new again from the video for further improvement. It's why i wish more professional artists did videos like this. It really helps.
I couldn't figure out why every time I drew hair there was something off, and this completely fixed it! I'm still a beginning artist and honestly your videos are so helpful. Thank you so much!
I have seen a LOT of hair tutorials and instructions all over the web. This is hands down the best hair tutorial EVER. Thank you for putting this out there!
Wow! This was incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll definitely raise the hair on my characters. I never realized how much it makes a difference, till just now!
This is exactly what I was looking for, the whole thing about the mass on the head is what gets me. Thank you so much!!! I know its an old video but I've watched countless trying to find someone explaining what I was doing wrong in detail and not a "beginner how to draw hair" type thing as I'm pretty good, and know how, its all about the head.
I think the biggest think I've learned about hair since Ive started trying to learn how to draw is drawing randomness, but of course still keeping the main shape. I remember drawing just very even triangles for the hair. I feel like it's because nothing really that straight and even exists especially for something that's supposed to have thousands of strands, and it just looks more appealing. Ive found this applies to pretty much everything, like not drawing a bunch of mountains the same exact shape and size, randomness=more appealing
Hey, REIQ. Just wanna say thanks for your tutorials. My drawings have improved tenfold just by applying some of these techniques. certain things seem much more simple now. Keep up the good work.
I really don't think Sakimichan doesn't know what she is doing... What she did is all about her style, she stylized that fairy by making a different and weird skull shape, but i doubt it was a mistake...Remember that it is not always good to follow the rules,it might be boring sometimes, and it's nice to give a different touch, even tho is not based on reality. But IN CASE that was a mistake,i'd just say that even the bestes makes mistakes, nobody is perfect :P
I just found Sakimichan's full version of this image, and I have to jump in. If you saw the whole picture, you'd see this is a stylized version of Dee-Dee, the sister character from "Dexter's Laboratory". The characters have completely unrealistic anatomy, and Sakimichan's version tries to mimic the weird head shapes in a more three-dimensional manner, so this is not a mistake, it's an intentional distortion from reality.
I don't think, thar is just Style. Normally professional artist has a construction under their stylized figures and heads, like Manga Heads have an anatomy too. Her/his pictures just make no sense - at the first you have just no volume and this can not work. In the second is the perspective wrong too, so if the artist wanted to give the girl a biiiiiig brain, why he didn't make it in right perspective? If someone breaks all anatomy and perspective rules in one picture - yes it can be called "style", but if theire are just one perspective fail or on anatomy fail, then it is just a mistake. Or are you calling everything "style", when it is wrong drawn?
Watching this video again after a couple of months of practice. In the first time, I saw the video, it was very easy to understand what you said, but hard to try doing myself. Now on 2nd time, it was really helpful, I just grasped much more content!
*not only you are an artist ... you are so smart too when you draw your lines !! thank you for the video that's one of my best vid i ever saw about drawing ... keep going (y)*
the FACT that youtube search bar doesn't show this is a crime literally, this si the best and i mean the best hair tutorial ever thank you for explaining all the little details about hair and also the common mistakes
Thank you for basing 'why' in form and reason. The feeling is necessary for a sketch, but rules must be understood. Understand the rules. Then you can break the rules on purpose - not by accident.
This is a first. The best art tutorial on youtube is from someone who is speaking his second or third language (I don't know how many languages you speak.) Great Job
He do be doing laundry doe And his computer or PC do be overheating doe Also AMAZING tutorial!!! This helped me sooo much since I'm a beginer artist. I have been really wanting to create my own art style and all I needed was the hair. This tutorial helped me alot! Thank you very much!!!
Hi Reiq great video hair can be a tricky one. Do you have any tips for the most efficient way to do digital line clean up? I often find when creating the kind of line I'm happy with I get a bit of overlap which means I have to spend quite a bit of time cleaning up, what is your approach?, I love your work by the way!
waa buen video y con ejemplitos, Reiq pa la proxima podria ser un video de como hacer epelo largo? sobretodo entintarlo se me hace mas dificil :c con trazos mas largoss
Sakimichan has shit fundamentals. Those paintings are popular because they are shiny not because they are good. It's all tricks and very little actual knowledge.
@@user-lb3tg2qx8b whatever gets the job done.. She makes a lot of money out of that. Edit: without some fundamental knowledge she wouldn't be able to paint like that
Awesome, very helpful. You are right, it is very hard to find information on how to draw hair. Even most head drawing books only have like 1 or 2 pages if at all. Thank you for sharing what you have learned. The most helpful part for me was the idea of using the strands of hair to describe the big volumes of the hair and make the hair wrap around the head.
what program are you using for the drawing tutorial and does it have scan support also do you have to buy it; if you do is it montly/yearly subscription or single payment?
The difference between making Deedee's head flat due to the cartoon doing that and the way Sakimi did it is because Sakimi's style appears a lot more realistic, like a stylized blend of anime/realism so just chopping the skull in half just because a cartoon does it makes it look very weird. Her style is more realistic than Dexter's Laboratory, so seeing characters with their proportions drawn in a realistic style yet keeping those proportions admittedly does make it look strange and it's typically unappealing.
Must be THE best hair tutorial. The hardest part about drawing manga for me is the hair, this video definitely helped more than any other.
ShinobiGamer i agree, such a good video!
right!?
For sure
same here
hardest part for me is 3D bodies 😿

Bro the exact same thing happened to me.

I'm only 7 minutes in and this is already my favorite tutorial. Cracking up over here about the Sakimichan skulls. Really helpful demonstrating that.
Hey it has been several years but your hair tutorial is still the best I can find on the internet. Thank you so much man!

So this can be used to draw realistic not just anime right.
Realistic would be better to draw line by line in the hair, but i still do the blocking part.
