I really enjoy the show game of thrones. And I know the new season is coming up soon. And for a while, I have contemplated whether or not I should watch the new season. I already have stopped watching all of the tv show that I committed myself to. Game of thrones is the only show I have left. Because of the love I have for God and because I know His will for me is to separate from things that displeases Him, I decided to stop watching the show. Now I barely turn on my television.
Me too - well done for the work of the Holy Spirit in us - once we are 'free of such clever and beguiling temptation', we are free indeed! Yes, it is 'brilliantly written, filmed etc.' - but that is the 'cleverness' of the temptation, of the tempter!!
I see it differently. However, if the Holy Spirit has led you to your decision, I cannot but applaud you and encourage you to keep yielding to His influence.
zanelle zephurin Respect to you, sister! We are called to deny ourselves, and what happens when we do is we become more sensitive about discerning the things of God.
That is stupid, how can some Christians be such stupid. I believe in God, but truth is he doesn't give shit will you watch tv show or Game of Thrones or Hannibal or anything, Bible say no one is good only God is good, bible say that evil doesnt exist, evil is absence of good, so i and you have choice we can be stupid and dont whach any tw show and pretend that God care, or we can do what we want, whenever we want, Only thing you need to do for salvation is complete trust in Jesus and thats all, no good deeds or anything you are siner in God eyes no matter what you do, all sins are eqal, you are free to do whatever you want, good and evil are completly subjective, you are not good nor evil.
I used to struggle a lot with wanting to watch TV shows and movies that I knew were sketchy. But as I've grown closer and closer to God, I've desired more to be sanctified, and the desire to watch those shows has dwindled. Pursuing, loving, worshipping God is so much higher, so much greater than any show, movie, or book.
Yes this is true. I just came to the faith last year, and i would say about a year or two before that, the change was already in my heart. Things that used to be cool to me, like violence and brutality in video games and movies has begun to sicken and disturb me. People tell me it's the holy spirit... whatever it is, it's real, and it comes into your life when your heart opens to Jesus, even before your mind decides to do so.
Beautiful Message, completely biblical! I love how he said "my life isn't a constrained life" so true. For God's commandments are not burdensome to keep when you are walking in the Holy Spirit!
Janko Perić well if all this was true, why would JESUS say gouge out your eye if it causes you to sin, obviously this implies him wanting his followers to be morally good
Compromise in the church is rampant! This is an excellent interview! We are called to be holy (1 Peter 1:16) and to deny ourselves (Mark 8:34-36). God bless
I used to watch it but every time I played the episode I would fill deep sorrow in my heart. I was grieving the Holy Spirit for quite some time until I became dry and finally realised what I was doing. Brothers, this filth is not worth our blessed sensible Lord who's dwelling in us. Let's not grieve Him anymore but bring Him joy with faith, obedience and purity of mind
Ive watched game of thrones before I came into the faith and I can tell you know that it is never appropriate for a believer to watch such wickedness ,Lot vexed his righteous spirit from the evil deeds that he saw and heard in Sodom and Gomorrah he did not sit there with a bag of popcorn and watch with enjoyment ,he was distressed by the depraved acts of lawlessness and so should we be .

Pastor John I would like to say that I have been wrestling with watching this show and I've watched a lot of it even though at the back of my mind I knew God was not pleased with this show and I simply needed to affirm the truth in my own heart which you have just spoken. Thanks and God bless you .

Since i was saved, I am more and more intolerant of any violent, demonic TV shows....it's crazy how much and how popular they are among people....i can't understand how people enjoy those zobmie, vampire, demons, torture, perverted sexual scenes..... all the image from HELL..... how is that enjoyable??? What are these shows trying to do to people????? Come Lord and clean up this filthy dark world, it's getting too much to bear!!!!!
I watched the first episode because show was so hyped--it was too evil gross to sit through. I wanted to throw up. I hate how desensitized most people are to the vile and demonic. Very unhealthy for brain and spirit. I do not want this in my psyche as I get older. Too damaging.

No. The Bible talks about people like you who try to use grace as a license to sin. You are not saved because you don’t think your sin is serious enough to be saved from. Leave this girl alone.
I think the problem of watching nudity and sexual explicit "acting" is not just that the viewers have lustful thoughts about it and/or the people portraying those scenes, but it's the fact that God determined that our nakedness and sex belong inside marriage and when I'm contemplating another person nakedness and the way they would have sex, I'm not only lusting after someone that is not my spouse, but I'm taking something that belongs to those actors' present or future (if they're single) spouses. The pleasure of seeing their nakedness belong to their spouses, it should only be enjoyed inside of marriage, and I'm somehow robbing that for myself. The other troubling part is that these actors are selling their nakedness for a stranger's pleasure and those watching are accomplices of that sin. Even if I skip those scenes in TV, the actors and producers of these shows don't know it. They just know that their product is selling because people like what they are seeing, and they will keep on insisting those who want to act that stripping off their clothes is a "need" and "art", when in reality they only care about the money these actors' naked bodies and sex portrayals generates them, reducing people to sexual objects for the masses.
Literally first episode of Game of Thrones I ever watched I was like, "well this seems pretty interes-WOAH THEY DIDN'T MENTION IT WAS MEDIEVAL PORN." Could not watch it anymore.
Something to further consider: Violence and murder faked onscreen are nonetheless sins God hates. Just because it's faked doesn't take away from the fact that they are entertaining an audience with these things God hates.
Ian Garman thats actually very true, good point. But I still would say that we are not doing what is pleasing to Jesus when we sit and watch let's say someone get stabbed or something like that. And then go to God after wanting to draw near and grow in the Lord. Because we just watched dreadful things we don't need to see. The bible is clear on murder being sin so why would we sit and make entertainment of it? You get what I mean?
Ian Garman I also understand it being part of reality. But we have the news for that. What movies are, is entertainment and seeing gory or gruesome things or witnessing "deaths/murders" for pleasure is not necessary. That doesn't mean no movies at all just to choose wisely what we choose to watch as we serve a great and awesome but also Holy God ;)
I think there's a discernment that must be exercised. "Violence" is not always wrong; what matters is context. Is it justified violence, such as a war? Is it a depiction of real violence, such as gang violence, that should grieve us and paint a picture of a fallen reality? OR, is it GoT-type violence, in which the pleasure of watching it is not derived from the well-told story or in how it glorifies God and what He stands for, but is instead derived from our animalistic and sinful bloodlust? #1 is justified because the violence isn't the point but the context in which it is placed. #2 is sinful, because the violence is the whole point, and we're enjoying violence for the sake of violence. Thus, something like "How to Train Your Dragon" (one of my personal favorites, lol) is alright, because the violence is A) not over the top, and B) makes sense in the way it's handled; whereas most horror/slasher movies are saturated with sin because the whole point is to derive enjoyment from other people's pain and sadistic deaths. That's where I'm at right now, but I'll drop any movie if it leads me into sin. Anything else to add?
He said, "the closer I get to death and to Jesus"... the only problem I find with that statement and this video, is forgetting that we could die at any moment, and that even if we're alive God can still come as a thief in the night at any moment. I agree with this video. ive been getting closer to God and further from the bondage of satan. God has shown me that even red bulls can be a form of bondage. don't get addicted to the things of this world. theyre here one moment, and could all burn in a heartbeat. God bless you all.
Some of these teaching were pretty profound to me I’ve never thought of some of the points he just made. This was something else my friend like I’m in awe 😂😂😂. He said you wouldn’t want your family to play these nude roles like wow man that was good. As well as saying nudity is real it’s not make believe like man you are literally hitting us with some wisdom. Praise be to God.
John Piper goes in everytime!! Demonstrating how the Gospel is relevant in every situation, offering the answer for every question. I thank God for Pastor John's fervent commitment to the truth and His uncompromising delivery given in love. Thankful for the boldness not to shirk away from ANY question!
That kinda strikes closely to my heart, resonates deeply, when you talk about how we don't need irrelevant 'cooler' copies of the world, i'm very deep into entertainment myself and even I can't help but notice a lot of entertainment seems to 'extract' a lot from scripture and Biblical knowledge or imagery, and this same entertainment is looked at, treated and showcased in such ironically 'religious' manner, as if it were the Gospel of the world and all it's unclean desires, and it's designed to be so addicting, but the irony is that people would pitch a fit or walk away if they had to hear a verse or parable from the Bible. It sure makes me wonder sometimes. Is it possible entertainment is Satan's way of manipulating, inverting and copying the original story of Life? I guess that's why the Bible says there is nothing new under the sun...
As someone who WAS a huge, massive fan of Game of Thrones for the entire time that it aired...this bridge is the hardest to cross for me personally. Rationalizing and justifying the viewing of on-screen nudity because "the quality of the film, the storytelling, etc etc are just so good" has always been something I did, knowing that it was just a lot of "blowing smoke" to make myself feel okay with watching material that was frankly...not worth watching. But I grow in faith and mature in faith and am just trying to slowly work these kinds of things out of my life. Slowly but surely it is becoming an easier and easier thing to do. There is an INFINITE amount of entertainment in the world, and between work, family and faith...no single human truly needs a massive amount of entertainment to get them through life. There is certainly no need to resort to any entertainment that features obscene nudity or sexual content.
Pastor Piper mentions even photos. What about artists or medical professionals that observe a naked body to increase the knowledge and skill of their trade?
The scenes are filmed with the intention of invoking lust in the viewers. However, a simple solution is to simply skip over such scenes. I'm pretty surprised that no one seems to be mentioning this.
You dont need adult stuff to make a good adult story A cancelled star wars game called star wars 1313 was going to be rated M for the plot not the violence
Oh Lord help us! if we were to spend time with Christ in His Word, we wouldn't even be asking such questions because we would Know! We really need the incredible gift of discernment.
Temptation is normal because our flesh is weak and corruptible. But watching and taking delight in such wickedness for a true child of God is in my opinion impossible.
Abiding in Him. I think the truth is that there is no discernment anymore. Certainly it is uncommon, to say the least. This current generation of Christians are so poorly educated and so gravely mislead into thinking life is about fun, that it's difficult to find someone who has a burden to be holy. So many youth these days think pre-marital sex is either acceptable to God or just not as serious as the "oldies" say. So it follows that the same people will be, at best, ambiguous about whether or not they should watch shows that seem obviously depraved to previous generations. It's sad that youths spend so little time with their bibles or with God that they have no idea what brings Him Joy and what makes Him angry...
White Night I agree.. also this isn't just a youth problem. My thought is that TV in general is a huge distraction. Why do we feel the need to be entertained? It's a pit many many people are comfortable in.
I don't have a problem with being entertained - entertainment and recreation have their place. But I do have a problem when people claiming to follow Christ are entertained by things that God hates. Admittedly, I struggled with this very thing for a long time. I was hooked on a video game series called Shin Megami Tensei, which has a strong occult focus - you summon demons to help you save the world and generally toward the end of each game you have choose between siding with Lucifer to fight (and kill) God or God to fight Lucifer. It's blatant blasphemy. And I claimed to be a Christian whilst playing these games! I justified it away by saying it was just fantasy and the in-game representations of God and Lucifer are not accurate so it's not like I'm actually fighting God and befriending the Devil, plus the story is really interesting and the gameplay is amazing blah blah blah. But the whole time I knew in my conscience that God did not endorse this form of entertainment. Eventually I was caught out because a church elder saw something on my social media that concerned him and after doing some research he confronted me. Immediately I gave it up and got rid of all the games, knowing that I should have listened to the Holy Spirit years ago instead of waiting to be humiliated. Thank God for that elder who had a concern for my holiness. Now, my point is this. As Christians, if we have a relationship with God, we should be able to hear Him telling us when we are in breach of our boundaries (which are there for our good, not because God is a fuddy-duddy). But either 1. Christians only "give their life to Jesus" out of emotion and never really commit to a relationship with Christ, so they don't know His voice to be able to discern right from wrong, or 2. They play the fool, justifying sin by saying it's not reeeeeaaally bad (like I was doing), essentially ignoring God speaking to them. Both scenarios display poor relationship management on our part, and I think that's what it comes down to. If you really love someone, you don't ignore them or justify hurting them - you would be diligent to do what you know they like and refrain from what upsets them. Otherwise it's not real love and all you really want is a friend with benefits. Jesus deserves better than that. If Christians can't agree on at least that, they don't understand the gospel. He didn't live a perfect life and die a criminal's death so we can continue hammering the nails into His hands by pretending we don't know when we're sinning. He lived and died to pay our unpayable debt of sin so we could be renewed and made holy by God's grace.
White Night Amen! I was watching the Walking dead 2 Years ago and the Holy Spirit showed me how I could be spending time with him and not hiding in the dark watching this show. I repented and started cutting things out that kept me from him. Thanks for responding. I enjoyed your sharing your story. I like how you shined light on the relationship we commit to with our redeemer.
My portal into George R. R. Martin's World of Ice And Fire ( Game of Thrones) has been UA-cam videos and Wikipedia articles over the last six months. After I got involved, I was challenged by Joel Moroney's video similarly titled "Should Christians Watch Game of Thrones? " I've replied there. How should Christians watch "Game of Thrones? " I believe is a valid question. By the time these cautionary videos were posted, many believers had already been drawn in to George R. R. Martin's world and the worldwide phenomenon that is "Game of Thrones. " Seven seasons have aired, and the 8th-and-final season has been delayed. There are some believers who should not continue with the show. Those who haven't begun I'd say would do well not to begin. However, for those who choose to follow the story to its conclusion, here are some points to consider. The God that disciples of Jesus Christ claim to worship is present in The World of Ice And Fire. Our God created George Martin who has described himself as a "lapsed Catholic. " I see Martin's masterwork as part of his quest to understand the God he grew up learning about. The World of Ice And Fire is steeped in spirituality. Many religions and religious practices exist. Some articles say GRRM modeled those religions on faiths that exist in our world. In Psalm 139, David asks, "Whither shall I go from thy Spirit, or whither shall I flee from thy presence? " Of course, the answer is that God is present everywhere - even the farthest reaches of our imaginations. All the Utopias, Dystopias, Post-apocolyptic worlds, parallel universes, multiverses, and whatever we can dream up - the true, living, life-giving God is there. So, for those already caught up in "Game of Thrones " and the World of Ice And Fire, the challenge is what positive and edifying elements can you take away from this journey? "Winter is coming " echoes "Jesus is coming. " "All men must die " echoes "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.... " "Bend the knee" and "All men must serve" point to "Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. " I'm not trying to justify watching "Game of Thrones " or reading GRRM's books for titillation or enjoying "stolen bread. " If the Holy Spirit is convicting anyone on their watching or reading, those persons need to stop, repent, re-focus and move on in Christ. What helps me is I read the "Chronicles of Narnia " in school. C. S. Lewis wrote that series and he was an associate - if not a friend - of J. R. R. Tolkien who wrote "The Lord of the Rings. " George R. R. Martin has expressed admiration for Tolkien and his work. In a way, I was primed for Martin's work - and so were many of you. So, how should believers watch G. O. T.? Mindful that Jesus is watching us, that He is present in the story (even if not mentioned by name or identifiable with any god mentioned in the tale); mindful that The World of Ice And Fire is much like our world, and how we get caught up in fighting each other when a greater battle is raging.
Roberto Esquivel - thanks for the encouragement. I appreciate your reading the comment - I know it was long. I have weaned off "Game of Thrones " - I seldom follow up on video notifications now. But GRRM 's world is still fascinating to me. And in saying that, I am reminded that we worship the greatest Storyteller of all....
Since the show came out my husband and I decided not to watch it. Growing up into adulthood my husband really struggled with a pornography addition. Thankfully he was able to conquer it, so he doesn't want anything that will bring that back. So when people have brought GOT up my husband shares his reasons and people of all beliefs (and lack of beliefs) respect it. It's all about not being a pretentious prick when speaking to people.
1 John 2:15-17 King James Version 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Netflix promotes Lucifer, witchcraft, etc. Amazon Prime has a series (Robot) that shows graphic gay sex in the 4th or 5th episode. That's how they do it. They get you hooked in the first episodes with few problems, and later when it's hard for you to give up, they add the perversion.
Good afternoon, A friend of mine has the DVD set. I watched a few episodes out of the corner of my eye as I read from my phone. Not bad I thought. I then watched one episode with complete attention. I witnessed child sacrifice by burning a poisoning a throat cutting and a beheading. I will never watch this show again. Trauma, Trauma, Trauma. Peace be with you.
Before my conversion, I used to watch this series. I even watched a lot of gory movies. I was once a fan of horror movies. Name them, I know them. But after conversion, I abstain from watching them. When I tried watching once, my stomach turned. I now realize how shallow these kinds of movies.
I'm a devout Christian, and an avid fan of Game of Thrones. The solution is truly quite simple: simply skip over the scenes depicting sexuality and nudity.
I’ve learned that the “I’m just gonna skip it” mentality is a total farce. More likely than not, I won’t have the self control to actually skip it. And, if I do succeed in skipping it, for the rest of the film or episode I will be wondering what I “missed out on.” Piper is right. You just need to cut this stuff out of your life completely.
I hate that they added sx stuff in game of thrones, it was embarrassing to watch with others, I just wanted to have a good time with people while watching it, i'm no religious, but strangely someone that is in family was laughing while watching the scenes..
Have y'all never heard of vidangel. It's a streaming app that allows you to filter out gore, nudity, language basically anything inappropriate. How it works is it'll filter through a streaming app like Netflix or HBO so you have to have Netflix to filter and watch anything on Netflix through vidangel. But I used it to watch game of thrones and completely cut out all nudity and profanity and it worked really well. Just thought I'd let y'all know.
8:43 That is one that I can agree with to a degree, Deadpool is a good film, but so is The Chronicles of Narnia, But 50 shades isn't (at least not to me), The point is a good film doesn't need to have sex in it, but sex (or a lack thereof) is not enough to make a film good.
There are shows with blurred lines like A hard tvMA show can be like Game of thrones and The walking dead. But a Soft tvMA can be like Samurai Jack season 5 cartoon which doesn't care about the edgy stuff.
For us we purchased a VidAngel subscription and temporary HBO app subscription for after the season is over to watch in one whole bundle. You can take every sex scene and cuss word out from a list you control. The guys I worked with thought I was a freak for this indeed, but it kept us guilt free from watching the show and it is great without all that garbage. Vidangel is like having TV editing all over again like the good ole days.
There's still so much barbarity and violence in Game of Thrones though which is central to the plot and can't be edited out. I believe that is just as disturbing to God as nudity.
Fun fact: in the medieval times the only curse word-that was like the f-bomb back then- was "damn" and all our "cuss" words and vulgarities were technical terms back then
Coming back to this video, I'm curious what Piper's position would be on nudity in classical painting and sculpture. I know many see some kind of distinction, but I increasingly do not.
I asked in the past to some people if Game of thrones has anti Christians stuff and i heard this kind of stuff " While "Game of Thrones" does not explicitly contain anti-Christian elements, it does present a world where religion is often intertwined with power and politics, leading to the portrayal of religious figures as corrupt or fanatical " I personally enjoyed game of thrones and I'm not religious ( I have family that are) Recently saw someone with an username that is also a evil character in game of thrones acting rude to people that believe in the bible

This is good, also I like David Wilkerson’s take on it too, how can you expect to run into the Lords arms, if your sitting their watching that filth when the Lord returns.
If your right arm causes you to sin, you know what do. Imagine losing an arm to prevent you from sinning, how about missing art school. I know I cherish my arm more than my school and even that Jesus says if it leads me to sin I should cut it

@@commonsense9173 It's not about hating the body. It's about being modest and not over-ENJOYING it. God created a lot of good things. But we are not supposed to indulge in them outside of how he instructs, for our own benefit. For me, a woman, seeing breasts on the screen draws no reaction from me because I have no sexual interest in women. For a guy or a girl with interests in girls, that's way different. It becomes flat out porn at that point. (To clarify, I try to stay away from movies with nudity in it altogether simply because I represent the faith, anyway). Within a godly marriage, the appreciation you're talking about it glorifying to God. Outside of it, it's almost impossible to keep from glorifying the creation without giving much thought to God. Plus, if you're in a relationship then looking at another person with lust is the same as cheating, anyway.
8:25 There are also people who are waiting to kiss after marriage. Their first kiss is going to be in front of a lot of people (including Children) in a church.
The older I get, the more I realize that my time on this earth is finite. Consequently, every minute is valuable. That being the case, I need to ask myself: am I spending my time or investing it? If I invest my time in watching Game of Thrones, am I investing my time toward the goal of good mental health? The answer is no. Same reason I stopped watching The Walking Dead.
As a Christian, I also struggle to stop watching some shows even when you do not know that some nude parts will appear at some point. But I ask, when you go to beach and see all those beauties passing by, have you sinned already? How about some women in churches exposing their chest, since you great them, no way you won't look at them first but then you turn your eyes away. So have you still sinned? God knows that our eyes would see things that we are not supposed to see - via movies or while walking but the key thing is what you allow your mind to feed on at that point in time. So that is why we should guide our heart / mind so when we see these things, we are not carried away.
Amen! Christ made me completely *stop* all impure/lustful thoughts of the mind, and I feel truly liberated from the things of the flesh. I feel like a new person thanks to Him. Jesus has the power the heal all your impurities of the heart, I can speak on this as He has already done it on me :))

And, if I do succeed in skipping it, for the rest of the film or episode I will be wondering what I “missed out on.” Piper is right. You just need to cut this stuff out of your life completely.
Honestly I tried to watch the first couple of episodes and I couldn’t it’s pretty graphic as well with nudity and to be honest a little more on the spiritually dark side. My opinion to you as a Christian is not to watch it
A coworker recommended me to watch. Praise God, 20 minutes into the first episode my stomach tied in knots when the nude scene came on. You are lukewarm if you can sit and watch this show and call yourself a Christian..🤢
This is the best lesson ever. I also think the same. I restrict my feeds so much, i only got Christian and nature programs that is coming through... I want to let go of wifi and my cellphone.
I’m sorry but we are talking about “Game of Thrones” the bible is basically saying no time for entertainment you don’t watch Game of thrones to see nudity. If everything has to be serious then what is the point of doing anything.
The funny thing is..I don't have to see a man naked to lust after him. Most of the actors on tv I've always liked I don't really know what they look like naked and I've never sat there and thought please take your clothes off like most men do with women. The thing that makes me lust after guys is being well dressed and walking with confidence and having good manners but also a wild side. That's what I find irresistible in men. But it doesn't matter if you're naked or not because Jesus said if you look with lust you commit adultery in your heart
I believe we need to ask grace from God to grow more and more to love God's holiness and fellow man and women in such a way that we will prefer to abstain from delighting in nudity and pornography than to defile our souls with sinful pleasures. Not only that, but I also try to remember that I need to have my heart as pure as possible for my future wife.
I love how people say "real" Christian . What is real Christian ? Are you so perfect you never watch shows or movies that have graphic scenes ? Are you so perfect that never listen to a secular band or singer ? Are you so perfect that you never sinned ? Stop saying "real" Christian it's just Christian we all have our faults wether we admit them or not we all fall short of the glory of god
A 'real christian' Loves Jesus more than sin (and things God hates). A real christian is upset by sin and sinful things, because he knows Christ died and suffered the wrath of God to make us clean and holy. Do you take a shower and go sit in the mud afterwards?
I'm saying that you should read 1st John, chapter 3 (the whole epistle, actually). A True Christian sins by accident, he does'nt do it willingly. Sin is something we should hate, something that we should seek the Lord and ask to be more holy and more full of the Holy Spirit, we should not seek to sin, nor put ourselves in temptations way. I'm not being legalistic, I'm saying this because I once thought like you, and It got me deeper down in the mud of sin. But one day I met Christ, and He changed my ways and my mind, and He continues to do so. Sanctification is a key word in the gospel. Read your Bible, read John 8:34. Read Romans 6. I am saying this out of love for your soul, I am not a pharisee, but a disciple of Jesus Christ carrying my cross and denying myself everyday. Seek Him and you shall find. Peace be with you
1St of all one I'm a Christian but I am going to sit here and act perfect like I've never sinned before cause I have many times I don't deny that . So you telling me that I'm not a Christian because I watch game of thrones well who's the one judging now you are . I've already found Jesus and loves me regardless of how screwed up I am . Take your religion someplace else I'd rather have a relationship with Jesus
I hoped Piper would say Yes! to GoT, But i know better... At the start of the series several years ago, i did not see anything wrong with it. I do now. On the other hand: i really want to see how the series ends.
This is good thing because this follows the Bible, we can see examples in the Bible For example the Bible says about pride And we see Tywin and Geoffrey and the difference between them and who holds more power. Tywin has a lot of wisdom and experience just like Solomon has wisdom and experience Not like adonija who exhales himself saying he will be king like Geoffrey does That’s why Tywin commands much more power and respect. So according to the Bible it checks out. In the show you will see just and unjust situation in the world all of which could be seen as an example Tywin even said that wisdom is the most important during his conversation with tommen
An answer could be, It's up to you. You could skip past the nudity, get a version of the series that censors the provocative stuff, etc. Depending on how the show affects you and your conscience, that should be the framework you use (other than the bible of course) to determine whether It's suitable for you to watch or not. I see a lot of people drawing parallels between the nudity in the show and pornography. With pornography, the individual is most likely watching the content to lust, with GoT that's not the primary focus of the show. It's not lost on me that an individual could watch the show to lust or for any other sinful purposes and so obviously a line needs to be drawn. But beyond that, a viewer could ignore those parts or not be phased by them. Please stop using "real Christians", It's a pretentious and untrue term formed by the basis of your own perception and no objective definition. It sets a bad stigma among Christians and inhibits constructive criticism. If you want to convince another Christian that they're incorrect don't berate them and bring them down.

@@EQOAnostalgia that sounds a lot like what people say about a lot of things.

Beautiful Message, completely biblical! I love how he said "my life isn't a constrained life" so true. For God's commandments are not burdensome to keep when you are walking in the Holy Spirit!
Beautifully Rewritten God Bless You :)
Beautifully -
If God's commandments aren't burdensome, how come no one can keep them all. Do you follow #5?
Janko Perić well if all this was true, why would JESUS say gouge out your eye if it causes you to sin, obviously this implies him wanting his followers to be morally good
“If Jesus told us to guard our hearts by gouging out our eyes to prevent lust, how much more would he say don’t watch it” (4:55) - Amen to that!
Just use Him to distract you from those stuff
every honest Christian filled with the Spirit, that wants to understand the Bible agrees with this blessed preacher!
Compromise in the church is rampant! This is an excellent interview! We are called to be holy (1 Peter 1:16) and to deny ourselves (Mark 8:34-36). God bless
"If you doubt, DON'T." That's a good word right there. Thank you.
"A great movie does not need nudity to add to it's greatness". I wonder if Lord of the Rings isn't the only movie that fits this bill!
The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar, Top Gun: Maverick, and the entire Mission Impossible franchise come to mind
TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh, I've already shared this 4 times before the end of the video!!! Thank you!!!!
Ricky Westley the fake christians lead the potential up and coming christians into it, and people slowly choke out the conviction in their life and they become nice people who believe jesus was a nice guy

Amazing comment ❤

Something to further consider: Violence and murder faked onscreen are nonetheless sins God hates. Just because it's faked doesn't take away from the fact that they are entertaining an audience with these things God hates.
Double Dribble I guess then we'd have no movies then. But many movies made are
Double Dribble hard to imagine a world without the movies that show what the world really is. I'm all about reality.
Wonderful commentary, Pastor John! Wowww!!!! Glory to GOD!!!!🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
I never seen the show but I heard that it contains graphic sex and incest. That is disturbing
That first minute though, like a knife to the heart.
If u doubt , Don't ! Can anything be this direct and discreet ? God bless you, dear Servant of God !

Never seen game of thrones so not an issue. It all depends on how you react to the scenes anyway...whether you can watch without lusting
The scenes are filmed with the intention of invoking lust in the viewers. However, a simple solution is to simply skip over such scenes. I'm pretty surprised that no one seems to be mentioning this.
@@matthewnodar7298 Yeah I thought of just skip the Scenes or not lust over it I could be right or wrong or it matters no matter what
I vaguely remember some Christians I know saying they watch this. I don't have a TV so I had no idea the show was TV MA, and now I'm concerned.
You dont need adult stuff to make a good adult story
A cancelled star wars game called star wars 1313 was going to be rated M for the plot not the violence
a good question would be... should Christians watch extreme sports...
like mma..boxing...football 🏈 etc...
Oh Lord help us! if we were to spend time with Christ in His Word, we wouldn't even be asking such questions because we would Know! We really need the incredible gift of discernment.
Respectfully, there’s is a BIG difference between having discernment.......and using it :)
It made me sick. I hated even hearing it when I was staying with family who watched it :/
Ra shelle me too!
You've both lost your ability to ever call anyone a snowflake.
Real born again Christians do not have a desire to watch those kinds of things.
That's not true, we all deal with temptation even after our initial conversion
Temptation is normal because our flesh is weak and corruptible. But watching and taking delight in such wickedness for a true child of God is in my opinion impossible.
A True Believer It's impossible if indeed the Holy Spirit of God dwells in you.
Amen Brother!
God bless you in Jesus name! Amen
Fred Djengs -
Tell us one thing that you personally have a desire to watch or do that real born again Christians don't. There must be something.
I'm shocked someone would even have to ask. Doesn't anyone have any department anymore?
Discernment anymore?
Thank you Pastor John!
Seven seasons have aired, and the 8th-and-final season has been delayed.
I'm not trying to justify watching "Game of Thrones " or reading GRRM's books for titillation or enjoying "stolen bread.

Spencer Grant Martin's world is make believe, but the Bible is Truth.
non christian friend asks you, what did you think of game of thrones last nght? "O, I don't watch it because of nudity" - end of conversation
Nudity offends you? Snowflake.
its not the nudity, its more the storyline and violence that are not great. I just dont have time for the crap.
@@M.H.I.A.F.T. yes unless in the context of marriage, where it should be.

1 John 2:15-17
King James Version
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.
Thank you Pastor!
Chances are if they are watching shows that depict graphic sex scenes, they also have a closet pornography issue present as well.
Children watch these things, fall into bondage and rarely escape in adulthood. We really live in terrible times
What a great answer. Well rounded and complete. What part of us is edified, enhanced, increased or blessed by watching this???
Good afternoon,
A friend of mine has the DVD set.
This is such an encouragement in the fight against porn. I’ve gained so much ground leaning into Christ and I BELIEVE He will carry me through!
In short, if you watch game of thrones, your eternity will look rather like Kings landing when Daenerys and her dragon is done with it.
thanks pastor John. I will share this
Before my conversion, I used to watch this series.
Repent
I’ve learned that the “I’m just gonna skip it” mentality is a total farce. More likely than not, I won’t have the self control to actually skip it. And, if I do succeed in skipping it, for the rest of the film or episode I will be wondering what I “missed out on.”
Piper is right.
I've never considered watching Game of thrones. This is the first time I've heard anyone talk about it.
john piper always gives such an awesome answer.
8:43 That is one that I can agree with to a degree, Deadpool is a good film, but so is The Chronicles of Narnia, But 50 shades isn't (at least not to me), The point is a good film doesn't need to have sex in it, but sex (or a lack thereof) is not enough to make a film good.
There are shows with blurred lines like
A hard tvMA show can be like Game of thrones and The walking dead.
Fun fact: in the medieval times the only curse word-that was like the f-bomb back then- was "damn" and all our "cuss" words and vulgarities were technical terms back then
Very well said John
Coming back to this video, I'm curious what Piper's position would be on nudity in classical painting and sculpture. I know many see some kind of distinction, but I increasingly do not.
I asked in the past to some people if Game of thrones has anti Christians stuff and i heard this kind of stuff
" While "Game of Thrones" does not explicitly contain anti-Christian elements, it does present a world where religion is often intertwined with power and politics, leading to the portrayal of religious figures as corrupt or fanatical "
I personally enjoyed game of thrones and I'm not religious ( I have family that are)
Recently saw someone with an username that is also a evil character in game of thrones acting rude to people that believe in the bible
@MushramboMu
I got a reply from you, wasn’t from this comment though.
I watched a little of calvanism teachers, Piper, MacArthur etc came to the realization of how wicked they are, calvanism is pure evil, is not biblical. Calvinist teachers are wolves working for satan.
I only listen to solid grace teachers…

This is good, also I like David Wilkerson’s take on it too, how can you expect to run into the Lords arms, if your sitting their watching that filth when the Lord returns.
What is your opinion on lord of the rings? I heard it had positive themes about Christianity
If you go to an art school and there you have to draw nude models. What is your opinion about that?
If your right arm causes you to sin, you know what do. Imagine losing an arm to prevent you from sinning, how about missing art school. I know I cherish my arm more than my school and even that Jesus says if it leads me to sin I should cut it

Because natural human bodies are so bad.
God created us and you're ashamed of his work?
@@commonsense9173
It's not about hating the body.

Huge AMEN 🔥🙌
It’s Pretty ridiculous that this question even needs to be asked.
I think JESUS for using you as a special instrument for His Glory!!! Amen!🙏🏼
Amen! Christ made me completely *stop* all impure/lustful thoughts of the mind, and I feel truly liberated from the things of the flesh.
I feel like a new person thanks to Him.
Jesus has the power the heal all your impurities of the heart, I can speak on this as He has already done it on me :))

What about the Witcher?
Amen!
Thank you.
I have never seen game of thrones though everyone talks about it.
Don't
You're not missing too much, it's just a cheap copy of actual world history. Read history instead.
I dropped the show during season 8. It was awful and further proof they stopped following the books.
Amen thank God for this video. I will no longer watch G.O.T
Good advice because sin starts with a thought and these shows can implant that thought.
Ol4 V0 so you've never sinned before ? you're perfect all the time ? that's what your saying .
I bet you didn't even look up those verses. It is your choice. Be well
I hoped Piper would say Yes! to GoT, But i know better... At the start of the series several years ago, i did not see anything wrong with it. I do now. On the other hand: i really want to see how the series ends.
This is good thing because this follows the Bible, we can see examples in the Bible
For example the Bible says about pride
And we see Tywin and Geoffrey and the difference between them and who holds more power.
Tywin has a lot of wisdom and experience just like Solomon has wisdom and experience
Not like adonija who exhales himself saying he will be king like Geoffrey does
That’s why Tywin commands much more power and respect.
So according to the Bible it checks out.
In the show you will see just and unjust situation in the world all of which could be seen as an example
Tywin even said that wisdom is the most important during his conversation with tommen
I wouldnt say that justifies the show but dont deny, people, that the Bible also has many of these subjects in them
beautiful
Where can I submit a question??
