Thank you for this video! I ran over mine this evening with my mower. I didn't know what I would do to fix it. I am a woman, so I covered the hole with a latex glove, and put a bucket with heavy blocks on top to cover it until I fix it. I did it late ,so Lowes was already closed. I will pick up one tom morning. Mine looks to be the same size as yours, I hope it is easy to do like you showed. I was really worried, especially about rats or insects getting in it.

Don’t replace it with the same cap you have to worry about every time you mow. All the store have a screw in cap that has a closed slot in the center you can use several things to get it off and on and it’s flush so you don’t have to worry about mowing over it.

I thought about that but then the blade could possibly break the adapter. That would be a bigger issue. The plug with the “turret” seems to give you a little bit of protection since it’s higher plus it’s only $4.

I replace mine with the flush slot. Landscaper no longer has to worry about chopping it off.

Thank you! I didn't know there was a second piece. My lawnmower pulverized the cap and the adaptor. I just bought the cap thinking it's literally just a plug, not knowing there's an adaptor.

How about replacing the threaded female part on the PVC itself? My lawnmower cracked mine lol

  • @doloresm7396

Just replaced my cap with a 3" and had to make a collar as the pipe is 4" diameter. This house was picked apart by the neighborhood people before I bought it. I no longer had the threaded portion left, bought a 4" realized there were no threads at the top. So, I cut down a smoke detector mounting bracket to slip the 3" cap and the threaded portion, used liquid nails to secure the home made collar. I let it cure overnight, really not long enough but I mixed 1 part portland cement to 2 parts sand and secured the threaded insert with the collar so it would not fall down the clean out. The rim of the home made collar sits on the black top and does not go anywhere near the clean out, sits perfectly around the 4" pipe. Added the ultra high strength Portland concrete so they can't pick it apart and hide their drugs down my clean out. I mean if they want to get to my drain now they can but as soon as the Portland cures I'm going to tighten the heck out of it so they need a wrench to get if off. Good times. Yes, easy fix. Great video. I was really concerned about the rats crawling down my clean out. Mountain life is a peach.

We unfortunately did the same thing on our cleanout cap. Sadly ours is 8 inches. Looking around everywhere and always finding only $100-$200 ones.. So we just covered it some a plastic bag for now. Good thing it's only a small hole.

I have overgrown garden weeds and accidentally broke it. I also saw that there was garden dirt on the sewage overflow pipe. Is that bad? Or should I try to vacuum the overflow pipe ? As will get a replacement overflow cap tomorrow.
Please advise about the dirt that fell into the overflow pipe. Thanks.

Thank you for this! I just busted my first one w/ the lawnmower lol. This was helpful and straightforward. The one thing I noticed is that you didn't apply any sort of plumbers tape or silicone grease. This is about a year old - have you tried to reopen it? Any issues?

Could cut a block of wood to fit that square hole and with a wrench it's like a key. Could also reinstall it nub side down and use the block of wood in that cavity and use the wrench so you can't run it over.

Life Hack: Mine was so broken there was nothing to get a purchase on - just a square (ish) hole. I took a carpenter's square (triangle shaped) and stuck it in the hole until it was tight. Gave it a twist and it started spinning right away.

Also , the cap is broken in a way that wrench doesn’t fit properly to open the cap. Can you suggest some other option? Anything I can try to open the cap ?

If the plumber had difficulty unscrewing the cap one of tnree things happened. 1: He forgot the lefty loosely law, or 2: Someone put PVC glue on the threads previously, or 3: Someone got stupid and cross threaded the original.

Rainwater, vermin, and insects could get in also find their way into your house through the drains.

    • @doloresm7396

Drug addicts kept digging my cap out until they ruined the pipe, (they hid their drugs in my clean out. Eww. I just rebuilt it, I'm so proud of myself. If you put your mind to it you can do it. Yeah, don't let this go. I had to keep gluing the top cause they cut the threaded end off for easy access. Living in the mountains we are loaded with rats. Rats are all over, replace this anytime it has an issue asap. I couldn't fix it 'cause of the winter. All fixed now. I just have to wait for it to cure but once Portland sets it is like a marble slab. No one is getting into this without a wrench. I can't wait to watch them on camera try to get this off. Finally done.

that seems to be an error. The whole point of a clean out is to give access to the drain if I plumber or home owner has a clog. A glued cap does not allow access
