A lot of good technicians quit and a lot of good marketing and technologists staff got the boot. The 6500 was the last decent panel. Things went downhill after the 8500 The 8500 was a panel that was nearly impossible to go into service / test mode. I’ll do a clip on it one day.

I’ve heard the engineers of this panel were fired because they couldn’t get its networking capabilities ready for Ottawa City Hall.

@@CJ9899 I heard something like that too. Edwards had networking experience with their 8500 in “star” topography 1200baud rs485. If I’m not mistaken, the esa2000 was running an 80286 intel chip. The technology was purchased out of Florida. Most manufacturers were “token ring” topography networking. Anyhow, after the dust settled they moved on to the irc3 with SS heads. Wow, talk about a rough ride for the company.

@@formosabrowning3539 Mirtone was the original designer for the ESA though right? I’ve heard that story a lot too. Though it seems once Edwards got their hands on it, they took a lot of stuff from the 8500 (particularly the annunciator as a whole, and applied it to the ESA. Mirtone probably also explains why it’s so quirky in design

@@CJ9899 not that I am aware of. I was standing in the hallway outside of the final negotiating for the purchase of mirtone. It was late 88 or early 89. I can’t think of anything positive from that deal but after all the firings one of the main negotiators got a high ranking position at Mircom. That’s how I remember it.

Does anyone have any manufacturer literature on this panel; namely why it is so poor, lack of replacement parts, etc. I hear tell that Edwards essentially de-listed it several years ago when they stopped manufacturing parts

Actually I was told by a former Chubb Edwards tech that the people who designed the edwards ESA-2000 were fired from edwards after so much poor feedback from techs and customers. I own an ESA-2000 and the conventional ones aren't that bad from a collector's POV

Wow what a badly designed panel. This is like the first panel to signal the end of the Edwards GS era of reliable panels and decent products.

Official NewAgeServerAlarm Ok I will agree that these panels are badly designed. But they are also EXTREMELY rare. There are no online manuals for them. And I have only ever seen one in person and it was at my old elementary school with 270 spos and integrities on continuous. But I disagree that this was the last era of reliable stuff as the fire shields and genesis products are very well made and reliable

@@CJ9899 My company services about a dozen of these still. I hate them, mainly because putting them into walktest or disabling anything is a hassle. If youre ever looking for rare panels like this most times they are in apartment buildings.
