  • On Sunday I paid a visit to the delightful preserved Telford Steam Railway.
A split line with a short trip out in reverse from Spring Village to Lawley Village before running forwards to Horsehay & Dawley, and repeating the return in reverse. After the final service of the day, a complex series of shunting movements involving the taff tank, diesel shunter and pacer were performed to get the steam locomotive back on shed! It's also worth noting I am informed the final clip of 5619 crossing the road over into the shed is the first time a train has run over this section since the new road crossing has been completed!
I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching! If you like what you've seen, please head over to Instagram for more / brunelheritage and please feel free to leave comments, ratings, and subscribe to the channel.

17:14 oh blimey just when I thought that there had been some development and the train was going to continue in towards Lightmoor junction… I don’t understand why there has been no development ?

Speaking to folk at the line last weekend, the extension is progressing well and they aren't too far off so hopefully some progress in the coming next couple of years! 🤞

As a volunteer here, I can claim the track had been laid down in the past however we had to take it up again, so hopefully we will make progress laying it down again with the time we have.

Lack of funding and volunteers sadly. With the Polar Express being the major form of funding for the railway, they had to concentrate spending on more important bits on the railway first like 5619, coaching stock, existing trackwork and security. Now that most of those projects have been completed or are in the latter stages money is now being put into the extension which is slated to have track down and running within the next 2-3 years. Volunteers have already started to clear the track bed between Doseley Halt and Lightmoor Junction too.

Me too, but why do the operators bring the trains into Stations at break-neck speed and then stop dead?

Wasn't there plans to also build a Proper Station at Lawley Common with Station Building, Facilities & Run-Round Loop or has things changed because of the Housing Estate...

Nothing has changed with those aims. I helped build the old wooden platform in my early days as a volunteer on the line and it was only built as it was due to access for equipment. The TSR have had to wait until very recently as there was no road connection to the Lawley station site which made getting materials to the build site tricky without double handling and additional lifting equipment at the Lawley end. They now have a road right at the end of the line and some large steel beams have been delivered to Lawley, so the plans have now begun to come into fruition after waiting almost 10 years.
