Reintamm did see something in the water that left the ship backwards to the left app. 10 minutes before the separation of the bow visor. Assuming that Reintamm looked backwards to the left from starboard promenade deck point of view, the thing in the water most likely could have hit the starboard side of the ship before the separation of the visor, and the opening of the ramp. It is sad. Why aren't there emergency exits on the side of the ship. And a platform to descend lifeboats all at once instead of them having to be thrown one by one from the top of the ship? We've gotten so advanced so why can't these measures of safety be taken?
According to the official report the water broke the windows of the ship from the rear first, so all the decks at the rear of the ship filled with water first. Also this is bit inaccurate as the ship had turned fully upside down before she finally sank.
Too bad the concept of the visor and the ramp are merrily confused in the video, apparently due to the ship simulation software used. The ramp was behind the visor, not all alone foremost in the bow as in the simulation. The visor was not meant to be watertight, the ramp was. The visor is the foremost shaping and shielding part of the bow that could and needed to be lifted hydraulically to gain access to the ramp. In the Estonia, however, the ramp was partly housed in the visor, which meant the once the visor was lost, it also forced the ramp open, and the car deck was flooded in minutes.
there's a reason why it fell, the waves weakened it and eventually broke the locks so it disconnected, then the waves weakened it more to the point where it fell
Complete Cock-up the Estonia was. Firstly, it was never designed to sail in seas like the Baltic. Secondly, its sister ship was dry-docked at the time, having repairs to the bow visor after the exact same thing almost happened to it.
Shipster1912 It was designed for coastal waters, not open regions like the Baltic sea. While the ship was able to sail in the Baltic, the bow visor wasn't designed to withstand it. You must remember that it had been with other operators before going to Estline, and did not always sail in the Baltic.
+The_ALEX_ELLIS_Channel I know it did, but it clearly was designed for the Baltic, especially if its main route was Tallinn to Stockholm. That route takes her to the heart of the Baltic.
+Shipster1912 It was designed for the Stockholm-Turku route, which is sailed in 80% archipelago. She wasnt made for travelling non-stop on open waters, one of many causes behind the disaster.
Personally I think that the ship itself was carrying some type of soviet military cargo in a truck or a car, which was parked in the car deck & someone ( probably the Russian FSB) didn't want that ship making it to Stockholm. Also why is it that there were members of Swedish Special branch police on-board this ship? Who was the unidentified man on the Bridge in the reddy-brown suit, whose decomposed body was found by Dave Mawston, when he dived the wreck? Why was another diver ( a separate diver in scuba gear) in the car deck poking around & when Rockwater divers discovered him, he swam away trying to hide from the spotlights shone on him? Why was Greg Bemis's ship stopped by the Swedish Navy, near the wreck-site & had his vessel boarded? Why did Sweden want to cover this wreck in concrete, when other ferry wrecks elsewhere, have been left uncovered, even though human remains are on-board? Why did Britain decide to bar its citizens from diving the wreck in a signed treaty?
i may be wrong but there was no rescue boats.. there was no time to release them.. some inflateble rafts was deployed tho but most got cout by the wind and did fly away or flipped.. most survivers was alone in the water only with float vests..
@@thegoldenpuppet3793 Nope, wrong again. She does not sail in hole Europe, she sails between Helsinki and Tallin regularly and sometimes to Latvia, that's it.
It will not slide the cars, the weight of the water moving to one side of the ship, if its 10cm or more on the car deck, causes the ship to list and heel over
@@pooltuunitud I had to do the conversion from metric, 10 cm would be about 4 inches, being that was spread across the entire deck with the Sea state as it was would be a huge problem for stability. It and itself perhaps wasn't enough to sink the ship but the lack of stability and severe list allowed more and more water to flow in, dooming the ship and it's passengers.
The simulation is wrong. The water tight ramp behind the bow visor were intact and closed. It was closed before, during and after the accident and it is still closed today.
@@faekapira The ramp was closed during the whole event and even after the wreck had come to rest at the bottom. There is evidence enough for this not to be an issue of debate.
@@faekapira Yes, but it did not, because the winches were still intact, all wire on them still, taught and snug. The ramp could have come loose and then close again, but no force of nature would have wind up the winches. It would look like spagetti instead. And there is also anecdotal as well as photographic evidence of passengers climbing down the beams at the back of the closed ramp when escaping the capsising ship. Thus, the ramp never opened. Not at surface, nor during the sinking and nor at the bottom. The watertight seal for the ramp, a rubber gasket, was severly damaged and abused by the crew, thus leaking a significant amount of water aboard. This can be seen on security tapes and was told by a surviving crew member as well. It is, however, not enough flow of water or accumulated volume to nearly support this simulation.
The video is inaccurate, the bow didn't let go until it sank, also the car ramp was upright at all times, the only way it could sink was because of a hole on starboard side. The ship lies at 70-80 meters depth, the ship is 157 meters, so it actually stood on the bottom for a while according to witnesses.
@@goawaylol9104 inaccurate, the ramp was closed when divers went down, it was open about 30 cm, not enough water could enter, had to be a hole below sea line.

Can you remake the sinking of Sewol(the Korean ship which sank when going to jeju island and turned too much that it capsized)?
....this music is definately from silent hunter ??
Jonh Lennon

how to take bowvisor off
Please can send link for this
This is so sad 😢
10 cm of water in a ferry can sink it as it will make the cars easier to slide around and if it turns they will move to one side and flip it
Thanks for that great explanation. I always wondered why 10cm would be fatal for this Ship.
It was closed before, during and after the accident and it is still closed today.
no, the waves also loosened the ramp, causing it to fall. it was held up by the visor until it fell, opening the ramp and letting water freely enter.
@@faekapira The ramp was closed during the whole event and even after the wreck had come to rest at the bottom. There is evidence enough for this not to be an issue of debate.
@@Odqvist89 when the ship capsized, the ramp could've fallen to its original position.
The visor pulled the ramp down and the water went to the starboard side
@@goawaylol9104 inaccurate, the ramp was closed when divers went down, it was open about 30 cm, not enough water could enter, had to be a hole below sea line.
I've always been told that the visor pulled the ramp down
No,it definently did
Wrong! The ramp was still on and locked. Many witnesses.
Note: This video is not fictional!!!!!!! It happened in September 28th 1994

At what depth does Estonia lie?

+Shipster1912
That's not very deep! (Or perhaps my expectations were a little unrealistic) :P
Thank you! :)
+Lempsu Thank you! :)
+Dante Birkoff Wow!
Do you know which ship wreck is at the deepest depth?
Dante Birkoff I shall! :)
God that's an unimaginable figure. I'm gonna google that as well, thanks! :D
And amazing video!

Estonia was upside down when it sank.
No?
@@helinah7732 yeah.. survivors even took photos on top of the keel
How did you get the real sinking Shipster1912
Estonia sank in waters that are shallower than Estonia's length. Estonia last minute She was presumed to have capsized with the stern in the water. But still slightly tilted to starboard, leaving only the bulbous bow and bow door. The ship sank and hit the bottom of the Baltic Sea in a storm, the cause of Estonia's wreck remains a mystery, and there are many theories as one of the causes of Estonia's wreck, but those theories are not. always have doubts
