    Raise the saddle to the proper height for your stature, up to the same level you would for a non e-bike. You should be on your toes (not tip toes) when seated and standing stationary. This will give you much more pedaling power.

    Sweet little ,super inexpensive upgrade ,
    I can see where it would come in handy especially going down hill too and especially if one wanted to upgrade their free wheel too . Even though one may need to bump up the assist level going up hill but I bet you could pick up a decent amount of speed going down hill .
    Thanks for taking the time to make these vids bud !

    One thing I noticed is your legs are bent quite a bit. If you raised the seat you ought to get more pedal power with relative ease compared to having your legs bent sort of like in a duck walk which is difficult to do in general.

    Thank you so much for this video, When I got my New bafang rear motor upgrade the cassette came with a taller gear in the back which I swapped the original cassette to the new bafang motor because I ran out of pedal instantly, but I feel like I can still use more gearing…. it helped my peddleing, but it’s still not enough I’ve been wondering about the swap for a long time it looks to me like the motor and controler might not let us go much faster even with the gearing, great review thank you so much for the information

    i changed out my front sprocket on an 86’ 450cc nighthawk so i could do wheelies in first gear. Honestly i still had to jump on the back pegs and hit the powerband. That honda had 50k miles and it was 30 years old so no wonder it had significant power loss. My RR6+ didnt even ship yet and Im already looking for speed haha. I wanna be able to use those downhills to my advantage and only being able to pedal roughly 28mph (from what stock users have shown) aint gonna cut it. Thanks for the video and links.

  • @WildBillRidesAgain

    Someone may have said this but you can put on a bigger change ring without messing with the crank.. you just undo the four bolts holding the chainring on and pull it right off over the pedal, just reverse the procedure to put it back on. For the Rad Rover you need a bolt pattern that is called a 104 BCD. Wrong bolt pattern and it's a return item. LOL though anything more than 46 they're going to have to leave off the chain guard cuz it becomes useless with the chain riding higher than the guard. I did mine to 46 I believe it was so I could keep the chain guard on, but I think I may try the 52 to get a little more pedal now that I see yours. I have some of the power upgrades you do and I'm running out of pedal. If I remember they're only like 25 bucks on Amazon.

    FINALLY!!! Someone doing what I've been feeling I needed for a LONG time. LOVE my eBike.. hate that at pedal assist 3,4,5 the pedals are useless. I'd like to still get SOME workout value (at age 60) even though eBike's really my only choice now for hills, etc. But the 48T chainring that comes stock on my Docrooup DS-2 is just not enough. I just ordered (from the same company as yours there) a 58T. The 56 is the most popular but it's on back order until July 31 (2022) - wanted something sooner. Good info. It appears that the motor(s) are governed to max out at a particular RPM. So no matter how much more effort you put into the petals, the motor will not spin faster. From the looks of the angle of the derailleur, you might consider adding a few links to the chain.

    I like your experimental spirit!
    I am just starting my journey into e-bikes. I would guess that the bike came with the 42 because the motors will need your help to climb up hills but are fine rolling down hills.
    To understand the effect of rear sprockets vs. different size front chainrings google chain inches or gear inches (it is how far the bike will move with 1 revolution of the pedals). More practically, at the same pedal rpm: big front-small back (last-gear) is fast for down-hill, small front-big back (first-gear) is slow for up-hill.
    Because 35mph is Tour du France-like speed, your top speed is likely limited by the hub motors (not a racing bike - not a professional cyclist). So, a mid-drive might make a difference because of the leverage (42 vs. 53) in the gears. What do you think?
    Cheers,

    This was a tremendously helpful video. I just got my 750 Mid-drive Bufang E-Mtb Bike from Accolmile. I noticed that at the 22-25 mph range I could hardly keep up with the pedals. I was looking for a way to increase the resistance at these speeds to make it more enjoyable to ride at higher speeds. Your video explained all that. I wish you would have gotten more into "indexing the derailleur" to adjust the gears, now that you have a larger chainring upfront. I have no idea how to do that, I am a novice at adjusting gears. Did you have to do many adjustments? Is it possible I could change to a larger tooth chainring and not have to do any adjustment on the gearshifting? My bike also has a cutoff when I'm switching gears, it shuts off the power for a second or two while I'm shifting. I wonder if that's going to be affected by doing this?

    Might be able to swap the left crank with another of your bikes. I’ve had this issue too. Being able to pedal up to 32 is ok for me but past that it’s more about keeping the bike straight and not getting the death wobble.

    • @danw050
      @danw050 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah.. I even feel a little unsafe at 25mph... even with fat tires. 35 would be too unsafe a feeling for me on a bike. Luckily my Docrooup DS2 tops out at about 26.. and I set pedal assist 5 at only about 88% of battery top - as a sort of 'governor'. Be careful, people.. If you have a fall on an eBike at 30.. They pick you up 'with a spoon'..

  • @laurenarndt464
    @laurenarndt464 8 місяців тому

    I'm no bike expert either, but if compare your rear derailleur from the old to the new, you've changed its position quite a bit. It would appear that you are putting more coiled tension on the spring. I would add more chain lengths to bring the derailleur to the original position. You might damage it otherwise.

    I have a question. How did you get your bike to go so slow? I know everyone seems to want their ebike to go faster but at 70, I do not. My radcity goes 22 km/h even while ghost peddling on flat ground and while I have become used to it I would still like it slower when I want to just putter along. Although I can program a slower speed down to 14 km/h, all settings from 14 to 19, default to 20. Rad was no help, didn't even understand what I was asking. I have figured out how to deal with it using the throttle but it would be nice if the bike did what I asked. Ultimately I would like to keep the top speed at 32 km/h but lower the amount of assist at each of the 5 levels. presently it's set to 20,40,60,80,100 but I would like 10,20,60,80,100. I rarely ever use 3, 4, 5 as my area is completely flat and any inclines are easily handled at pas 2. Anyone have any thoughts? Eggrider can almost do it as I understand it but I may have it wrong and that would work exactly as I have asked.

      I asked my kit supplier similar questions. They said that except for amperage limits adjustment, and assist adjustment which can mess with the start effort and assist feel, speed is hard programmed.
      You could possibly change wheel size to a larger wheel in the display adjustment, and it will trick the computer into thinking the bike is traveling faster than it really is.

    Will it not hurt your motor because you're adding extra power by pedalling?

      The motor will last longer cause you are helping the motor with the bigger front chainring get it. and the battery will drain less, happy days are here.

    Your seat is to low! Raise it up 1 full inch and you will absolutely get more leg drive resulting in more top speed!

      I have my old 11-34 freewheel I could put back on but I don't have a tool to remove the freewheel, I think Bolton sells those I may have to pick one up, although I kind of like the gearing as it is right now.

    Why would you upgrade such a shitty bike that much? I have a rad rover 2018 as well. No full suspension. Not a mid drive. It’s clumsy and heavy. I do like the mirrors. I keep busting up mine. Will probably bust my left side again soon lol

    • @CitizenCycle925

      Upgraded it because it's what I had and also Since I didn't really know what I was doing, I wouldn't be upset if I ruined it, Better to experiment on something that's not awesome. 😁
