    1. Thin mints are better frozen
    2. Samoas are better cold
    3. The lemon cookies used to be DELICIOUS but they keep changing them (the best was when it was a plain cookie with lemon frosting in the shape of whatever the shortbread ones are called)

      I think I've reason they were so popular when I was a GS was they only had a few kinds, you had to sell them door to door (guess pedos didn't exist back then. You took the order then delivered them weeks later and that was it for the year. There was so much FOMO and people would buy a bunch and freeze them. Somewhere somehow it morphed into the sell on your website or get your parents to sell them, and also the weird flavors they keep trying.

  • @hankbug

    As a former Girl Scout, I can tell you that GSC season is a major deal. The money we made by selling cookies funded our yearly camping trips, national convention trips and yearly dues. The Caramel Delights and Samoas are the exact same cookie they just come from a different cookie distributor. Great looking uniform Ollie, I think you are well on your way to earning an "Ambassador Cookie Influencer Badge"....yes, that's a real thing. ☺

    • @aussiebird14
      @aussiebird14 2 роки тому +10

      Yes! It really helped pre-sale season to be an older scout since you could sell to you classmates, but was definitely harder on location….people don’t feel as bad saying no to teenagers over elementary schoolers. and I know it’s gone up to $5(?) a box, but back when I sold them at $4, we only earned 60¢/box. Not many people realize how hard we worked for not much reward. Where I lived, it was cold and rainy all cookie season and we’re not allowed to set up our tables inside the shops (Girl Scout rule). We technically weren’t even supposed to wear jackets over our uniforms, which thankfully our guardians usually let slide. I know they’re expensive, but I always buy one when asked and give it to the girls. I remember feeling so nice getting cookies from a stranger after standing outside for 2 hours.

    To be clear, the reason the shortbread are so popular is because they’ve been around forever and they’re the cookie of choice for the elderly.
    And no, they’re not eaten in front of your grandma, they are almost exclusively eaten, an entire box at a time, by oneself in absolute shame. But they’re sooooooo good!!!!

      @@TomTomLo1 to be fair it acts as a fundraiser for their local Girl Scout’s council respectively. That money is used to then donate to local charities or animal shelters, used to take the girls on wilderness activities and such~ i wouldn’t shame it at all! As someone in music as a kid, we fundraised as well and all that money would go to buying new instruments, going to really nice 2 week vacation trips where we would preform in let’s say a Disney World Parade for example and such, new uniforms. Thin mints has been the biggest seller for years. This year a friend who has 2 daughters knew I would buy them. each box is now $5.00 each. Even though they are $5.00 each, people will pay it since it benefits the girls. I ended up spending $125.00 this year. back in the late 90s ish there was an apple cinnamon cookie and i miss those so much, i dont even remember what they were called but they were the BEST. they also came out with what i think were called lemon smiles before the current lemon ones (they were like lemon tea cookies covered in powdered sugar) and they were so much better than the current lemon cookies.

      Righttttttttttt!!!! It’s like they don’t understand when they have a good thing going because when I was a girl scout (98-01) they had SO many classics on the lineup that even though they can’t compete over the Big 3, could definitely still stand their ground. In the past 10-15 years, the newer cookies they keep rotating and redeveloping have all been pretty weak imo

    Girl Scout cookies are amazing Frozen. These are “seasonal” because they’re an annual fundraising event. It’s amazing marketing because they’re limited time! The different names are because the cookies are a National treasure and some names are regional. Also, try the shortbread with hot cocoa!

      Yes but: 1) One dips after the first bite. Or 2) hold the entire cookie beneath the milk until the bubbles stop rising. Don't squeeze too hard or it will squish and fall off. The milk must be constantly filled to the brim and the two delicate fingers holding them get a bit wet. Tum. Great with the old Mystic Mints and Oreos of course.

No one is saying make them literal mine workers, but no one hires under 16 in my area and there are so few of those types of jobs now that they all pay so much they expect adult ability and fun minimum wage summer training jobs are no more for 12+ The whole culture has changed and even 16 year olds that won’t clean a table expect a “livable wage.” No, the minimum is literally the lowest amount you can except for any amount of work no matter how poorly done it is. Fun facts: there are indeed two different bakers that are licensed to sell Girl Scout Cookies- ABC and Little Brownie Baker (subsidiary of Keebler). Each baker use the same ingredients, but have their own version of the cookie recipe. Our troop did a side-by-side comparison and can confirm the taste difference. Each council sets their own price per box and can decide which baker to use, but contracts are usually 3 years in length. The classic 5 Girl Scout cookies and 1 gluten-free option must be produced by each baker. The other cookie options can be on the chopping block like the recently departed Thanks-A-Lot and chocolate covered S'mores. LBB Lemonups replaced Savannah Smiles to compete with the more popular Lemonades from ABC. Adventurefuls is the newest cookie... basically a thin mint without the mint flavor and a weird glob of caramel in the center lol...

      I totally agree about the pricing... I was a girl scout in the 70's and I remember being able to sell cases; not a few boxes but actual cases to my regulars. I can't imagine anyone being able (or wanting) to do that now. With 30 boxes a case, that's $150 a case. My best seller bought 3 cases of thin mints, 3 cases of Samoas, 2 cases of tagalongs & one case of shortbread a year. That would be $900 today, I was always blown away that he spent the $150 back then.

    • @neolithiumproduction
      @neolithiumproduction 2 роки тому +3

    • @GenieGin13
      @GenieGin13 2 роки тому +1

      yes, it was the same for me. for my troop , we definitely could not order a bunch ahead of time. my mom was able to get her co-workers to preorder and some of my neighbors liked to buy from me and sister but other than that, my mom would place a few extra orders for us to hand out boxes to family. therefore our biggest buyer was actually our parents buying in bulk to get us over the sales quota on the orders.
      so i did not understand how other troops got thousands of boxes sold or how some girls were able to set up tables outside grocery stores.

    You briefly mentioned in the video, but all Girl Scout cookies are made by two different bakeries, and the recipes are actually different! Samoas have more coconut, while Caramel DeLites have more biscuit. The most dramatic difference is in the S'mores - there's the version you got, and then the other bakery basically covered a graham cracker in marshmallow and chocolate instead of putting it between two cookies. Wish you could have had a taste test between those two!

    two things: 1) you missed a Girl Scout cookie called Thanks-a-lots, they are a circular shortbread cookie, with a chocolate fudge base, and like the lemon ups they have varying messages on the top, but instead they read "thank you" in different languages. (they are my personal favorite)
    2) back in high school, my sister and I used to sell cookies from tote bags and out of our lockers. Since there were multiple troops at our school, the school board didn't want to pick a favorite to be allowed to set up their own booth, so instead, the two of us would set up shop by one of the busy hallway corners during the morning as people were arriving to school, and students and teachers would buy boxes for their breakfast and as snacks for later. Then, whatever we'd have left from that morning we'd sell by the end of the school day. Combined between the two of us we did that for 6 cookie seasons straight and is a fun memory of our peers all groggy eyed from the early morning trying to get to us in time to buy their favorite cookies.

    The 2 different names are because Girl Scout cookies are made in 2 diff factories and the names are regional. Whenever I see the girls out selling I always buy a couple boxes of Thin Mints (husband's favorite) and a couple boxes of Tagalongs (my favorite). The brownie ones look like a new flavor (they often release a new limited flavor every year). The new flavors are often hit or miss.
