😲 OMG❗ You have to enjoy working on it, because that took a LOT of patience❗ I'd have been cussing like a sailor a "few" times during that whole process. 😀 Job WELL done, my friend‼️ 👏🤩
this is exaclty something i needed. because you find a lot of tutorials in the net about 1.6 and 1.8 engines. and this is something nice. thanks for that.
Trying to video it takes up so much time also, I reckon 90 minutes without the camera but it’s informative and yeah not a cheap garage job to have done. Every step just that little bit closer to the TUV and reliving your youth , well done👍🏻.
You are so meticulous! Great job! I’d rather watch you fly a kite, but as D. Burgg said, timing is everything! When you can, tell us what the status is as to getting back into Italy. I’m supposed to cruise out of there in September to the Greek Isles, but who knows if that’ll happen or if they’ll let us folks from the US in! And I’m sure you are chomping at the bit to get back to the villa restoration! This Golf project is a lesson in patience for all of us!
Wonderful relatively complicated bit of the durable car belt change, how much have you put into this Golf project (money wise) and did you get this car free?
Another success! What service manual you are using? Often shops overshoot the prices to work in older cars, because if they find some difficulty like seized bolts, it can be time consuming and not every customer understands. I did change my Citroen BX timing belt once some time ago, with the help of the Haynes service manual and in the facilities of an old neighbor mechanic. It came out alright. Your car is becoming done!
Well done, while the belt looks in good condition you have no certain knowledge of when it was replaced last unless there was a service history of when it was relpaced. While belts are durable they can still age over a long time becomming a little stiff and with it being being stationary for so long can become set in it's shape. Much like tyres can develop flat spots standing in one position year in year out. The belt can retain the crank pulley curve and form a weakness that may shorten the life so in stead of lasting 100,000km it may only last 60,000km, most belts will last longer but the recommendation is to replace them at the recommended time. In some motors, interference type, a timing belt snap can cause head and piston damage and cost probably more than the car is worth. So at least you know its new and won't need replacement any time soon. Just note how many kms are on the clock now and when it will need a replacement next. The water pump looked ok but the condition of the seal of the impeller shaft is unknown It may have been ok, but it's new and won't need replacing any time soon. Just keep an eye on the seepage if it continues it may be the O ring seal may not have seated properly while resembling. Make sure when you refill the coolant it is at the correct antifreeze ration and is fully free of any air locks.

i suggest tho to remove the airfilter assy to have more space it's only a few rubbers that hold that in place one underpressure hose and the collar.
You really can do anything .

I bet you are thoroughly enjoying working on this car. Hoping all goes well with the MOT. 🤞🏽🥰
Nice you did this to help someone else out! Impressive. Was sad there were no local beautiful scenery clips 😢
Well that looked interesting. Where did you learn mechanics?
I’m excited for you hope it goes well
