This show is giving me very "Avatar: The Last Airbender" vibes. The Clark-Lois-Jimmy dynamic is very reminiscent of Aang-Katara-Sokka in this version. And I'm 100% digging it.
Smart writing, smart characters, subverting our expectations of the Superman mythos. Episode 6 summarizes the way Superman should be. He pulls Lois behind him as a blaster starts firing. When it’s done, Lois asked, “How did you know you’re bulletproof?” Superman replies, “I didn’t; I just knew you weren’t.” This is the Superman we need. A true hero who is trying to do the right thing simply because he’s that good.
He puts all the cars back and fixes things after his big battle in Ep2. I don't think I've seen that in a Superman show or movie yet, but it's very much a comic thing, so that was awesome. But how he hulks out to get to full power is a weird departure. Interesting take.
The whole power thing is the whole reason I’m interested in this show. I have no idea what they’re doing with his powers, and I’m really curious about it

And as another poster said I like how this Supe tries to fix property damage. My only gripe is them giving Livewire a duller backstory
yeah they butchered livewire, the hair femcel haircut, the boring design, just look to her episode in the 90s show, she's kinetic (cause she's literally energy) and fun here so just plain, masculine, and dated, deathstroke isn't much better (wouldn't even know that was him without others saying it)

I dunno man. I distinctly recall being involved in and hearing conversations about crushes/relationships almost exactly like that late into college and beyond. I don't think it's quite the kiddy-signal you think it is. I'd call this an all-ages show without reservation.
I love that Clark really has no idea what Krypton is yet. The accidental destruction of human scale objects like clocks and door handles contrasts well with the restoration of the battle scene. Part of Clark's awkwardness comes from him having to constantly be more careful as his power grows. The first two episodes are fun and have tweaks I would not mind seeing Gunn implement.
I not necessary like much that since supes been with his powers all his life, I prefer his more "dad" vibe that comes from him having learn since young how to be careful with little detailed stuff

There was that one henchman that seemed to be killed by the robot plus several mentions of murder and death. Those things are the only reason I’d imagine it’s on adult swim maybe . Plus Waller reveal with slade at the end seemed sort of ominous so perhaps it will explore some slightly dark stuff . I’m happy with it being a light take though that’s what I like from superman
Just so good to see the newsboy(kid) legion. Its the people of metropolis that make a superman ongoing project interesting. Superman should be a side character and Clark should be the main character. Clark and his connection to this special city (metropolis) that he loves

The tone is different but it does feel like it's capturing some of the magic of Superman: The Animated Series. It's also interesting the first episode is about mercenaries stealing military robots and the premiere of Superman: TAS was about mercernaries stealing a military mech. Although in TAS, it was part of a plot by Lex Luthor to get more military contracts.
As much as I love Superman it's important to remember at some point we have to pass him to the next generation so they can discover him just like we did. It's a good show. It's no JLA Unlimited or Superman the animated series, but that's ok. Those are still out there for whoever wants to find it. There are enough edgelord superheroes out there. Let Superman be Superman. An unbelievably powerful individual who just wants to help.

Normally if Lois wants to know about Superman he could just do the interview where he talks about his Kryptonian origins because why would she think Clark is him if he lives in the Fortress, but in this one he couldn’t understand the language of his origin. So now I think he’s gonna get into some shenanigans hiding it from Lois.
here's the thing for me with this show. this isn't a ground-breaking take. this isn't something that "has never been done before" but as a superman fan its the thrill of seeing an interpretation without all the over the top soap opera "DRAMA" TM of Superman and Lois, without the bad faith interpretations of Snyder, without being a one off gag like super pets or Teen Titans Go and with more eyes and attention than the (limited quantity of) direct to DVD superman content. this is the first animated superman show dedicated JUST to that character since 1996 (maybe legion of superheroes back in 2006 but that show is also about the legion, and while they are superman adjacent it feels like saying Justice league is a superman show. I mean it kind of is but not really because its not JUST about superman and his rogues gallery). its the wholesome upbeat kind take that we haven't seen in so long. Clarks literal first act is saving the cat, he struggles with his strength and accidentally breaks stuff (emphasising how careful he has to be all the time), it takes some small cues from one of the best stories "Smashes the Klan" where superman is initially scared of his origin, he cleans up the collateral damage (FUCKING SNYDER!) and most importantly he is just nice. he is a good person and he is nice and kind and tries his hardest to help people. y'know its like the experience of seeing Knives Out when it first came out. like Knives Out isn't revolutionary in terms of murder mystery stuff but its been SO LONG since we've seen one of these kinds of things that like it feels so fresh and new
honestly the drama hasn't been a real thing for a while, even snyder pretty much went right into the relationship skipping it isn't great cause now its a will they confess or won't they situation while jimmy ruins every chance for "comedy"

There are moments in there that are great, but overall, it feels way too cynical with a superman who never feels like he actually wants to help people.

My Adventures with Superman could be to these kids what Superman/Batman the Animated Series and Justice League was to me as a kid if they can keep the storytelling and animation high quality through out. So much potential.

The world this show is building is hopefully gonna go in that direction and story telling style where both kids and adults can watch it and be happy they did.

I really like how they made Kryptonian speak a totally alien language. It always kind of bugged me that these aliens from far away worlds would speak easy to understand american english.
I like the placement of Slade Wilson as a government agent. He still kinda has a Deathstroke look and they could progress him even though he has less to do with superman.
@@marcusclark1339 Well he isn't Deathstroke yet so it makes sense he doesn't have the mask and armor, but they did put effort into visually distinguishing him as Slade. He has a black and orange outfit, he has a shorter version of his usual bo staff, and when he's introduced, his hair covers one of his eyes during the conversation. He's only been in one scene so they'll probably do more with him losing an eye later and such.
Regular Cartoon fans seeing Louis : hoah glad to see grown up version of my favourite girl Luz Lane, i mean Louis Noceda DC Fans seeing Louis : BRUH ! is she batman's future wife, Selina Kyle ? Anime fans seeing Louis : she looks like either Casca or genderswapped Shinji Ikari.... wow either way i have bad feeling about this....
I thought it was great. All the characters are fun, and I love the dynamic with Clark and Lois. Also the fact that Jimmy is a conspiracy theorist who believes in all this seemingly random stuff that is totally true in the DC canon is hilarious. They have a pretty great balance with the characters too.
I honestly think that my adventures with Superman is a good Superman series so far that seems to understand who the character is and what he stands for, while having Superman be a rookie that has just started.
I like that the first episode had him fighting big robots. Feels like the early days of the show doing a nice nod to the early days of Superman the character, while at the same time subtle enough to avoid being just nostalgia bait.
I'd like to see Bibbo be played more as an immigrant, who may not know all the cultural norms but he's got a great heart and is a pillar of his community, something Clark could identify with

Just from what little you've said, it seems like the most apt comparison is Avatar The last Airbender. I'm curious how well you think it compares to that, because I know lots of adults who love ATLA, but I don't know how many love it from nostalgia versus watched it for the first time as an adult.

I think this is also a test run for superman legacy; the authority seems to be the main villain ( "the good guys") in this too! I think I did spot waller in the second episode.
I think this is a nice, refreshing take on the mythology. The characters feel like their comic counterparts, just with an anime filter. They didn't make Clark/Superman perfect, but he's not a downer. He's still got to get a handle on his interaction with the physical world + handling whatever emerging powers may come up, which will create struggle & problems. Also, Lois is likable, yet flawed. A go-getter who lets her ambition get the better of her sometimes, or so it will appear. And no to Pom as Bibbo. Michael Rooker was a much better suggestion. Why gender swap when a perfectly good candidate is right there?
I thought it was pretty solid for the first episode of a cartoon. Also worth noting that the white-haired guy in part 2 is “Agent Slade Wilson”, not sure how I feel about this take on Deathstroke.
I honestly love what the show has done in the one episode I saw. I think my favorite thing they set up in the first episode is the dramatic irony it did (spoilers) Lois promises not to lie again, and both characters effectively swear to each other that they wouldn't keep anything from each other, despite the secret Clark is withholding.
I think what I love about this show is that Smallville year 1 energy. And Deathstroke's (I think he's supposed to be Slade) design is really hitting all my favorite tropes with the hair and whatnot.
I really hope we don't get Batman in this show, at least not for a few seasons. It's been so long since Superman got his own animated show just for him, I'd prefer if he had the spot light to himself for a while.
As a Canadian, I'm kinda angry the episode's geoblocked for my country (and others, as far as I've heard) and the series doesn't appear to be available anywhere here ("Max" [still a stupid name] isn't in Canada), particularly as this show sounds pretty interesting/fun. Thanks for review.

I don't know about TAS, but in this show, these robots are an adaptation of the Mechanical Monsters from the Fleischer Superman cartoons.

I would personally love an update to this video now that we’re halfway into season 1, because I absolutely adore this show so far and I’m about as far from a Superman fan as I can possibly be
If they do a batman series like this that mixes in with this show and then turns into a justice league animated show, like Justice League: Unlimited and stuff, thatd be awesome.
The world this show is building is hopefully gonna go in that direction and story telling style where both kids and adults can watch it and be happy they did.

I'd say it's more a hard to place age range type of show, like Avatar: The Last Airbender or its sequel series.

@@elliswebster7041there's only been 2 episodes so far. MAWS can get to that level eventually, the show being on adult swim opens doors for darker storytelling aspects for a season 2.
I really like how they made Kryptonian speak a totally alien language. It always kind of bugged me that these aliens from far away worlds would speak easy to understand american english.
I loved the first two episodes! Super refreshing, and I can tell the action will be epic throughout the rest of the season.
I like the placement of Slade Wilson as a government agent. He still kinda has a Deathstroke look and they could progress him even though he has less to do with superman.

@@marcusclark1339 Well he isn't Deathstroke yet so it makes sense he doesn't have the mask and armor, but they did put effort into visually distinguishing him as Slade. He has a black and orange outfit, he has a shorter version of his usual bo staff, and when he's introduced, his hair covers one of his eyes during the conversation. He's only been in one scene so they'll probably do more with him losing an eye later and such.

I am not a big anime fan, but I really enjoyed this show and the animation
20 years old is still college age, people still have crushes and get scared of admitting their feelings at that age.
I thought it was great. All the characters are fun, and I love the dynamic with Clark and Lois. Also the fact that Jimmy is a conspiracy theorist who believes in all this seemingly random stuff that is totally true in the DC canon is hilarious. They have a pretty great balance with the characters too.
I honestly think that my adventures with Superman is a good Superman series so far that seems to understand who the character is and what he stands for, while having Superman be a rookie that has just started.
Reallt enjoying this take and the vibes of the show
I like that the first episode had him fighting big robots. Feels like the early days of the show doing a nice nod to the early days of Superman the character, while at the same time subtle enough to avoid being just nostalgia bait.
I’ve seen Batman version of this show on Twitter/threads and with a tiny Robin and omg I want a crossover ala DCAU so bad like omg.

I'd like to see Bibbo be played more as an immigrant, who may not know all the cultural norms but he's got a great heart and is a pillar of his community, something Clark could identify with

I didn't know this show existed, but I feel like from your description I am totally there for it. Just from what little you've said, it seems like the most apt comparison is Avatar The last Airbender. I'm curious how well you think it compares to that, because I know lots of adults who love ATLA, but I don't know how many love it from nostalgia versus watched it for the first time as an adult.

I think this is also a test run for superman legacy; the authority seems to be the main villain ( "the good guys") in this too! I think I did spot waller in the second episode.
I think this is a nice, refreshing take on the mythology. The characters feel like their comic counterparts, just with an anime filter. They didn't make Clark/Superman perfect, but he's not a downer. He's still got to get a handle on his interaction with the physical world + handling whatever emerging powers may come up, which will create struggle & problems. Also, Lois is likable, yet flawed. A go-getter who lets her ambition get the better of her sometimes, or so it will appear.
And no to Pom as Bibbo. Michael Rooker was a much better suggestion. Why gender swap when a perfectly good candidate is right there?
I thought it was pretty solid for the first episode of a cartoon.
Also worth noting that the white-haired guy in part 2 is “Agent Slade Wilson”, not sure how I feel about this take on Deathstroke.

I think what I love about this show is that Smallville year 1 energy. And Deathstroke's (I think he's supposed to be Slade) design is really hitting all my favorite tropes with the hair and whatnot.
I can't wait to see HOW he loses the eye. Because it could be anything. I just...hope it's not Clark who takes the eye lol.

I really hope we don't get Batman in this show, at least not for a few seasons. It's been so long since Superman got his own animated show just for him, I'd prefer if he had the spot light to himself for a while.
I am ok without another Batman show. I feel that Batman is too over done.

The animation kind of reminds me of Legend of Korra, and maybe a bit of Totally spies or Martin Mystery.
I'd say this is the direction DC needs to go in general with their shows. Yes, even traditionally dark ones like Batman. Ever see Brave and the Bold? Light-hearted really works well with him 😊

The creators have stated that Lex will not be in Season 1 at all. Which is a good decision in my opinion but I'm sure some people will chafe at that.
I like it. It gives us the chance to highlight other Superman villains, sort of like how Beware the Batman did for Batman villains.

Why would you want this to be edgy? The best Superman stories are the lighthearted and hopeful ones.
I think it could benifit from getting dark but not edgy.
