Wow, I was so frustrated and completely lost without being able to speak into my phone and have it write out the texts for me. I went from an iPhone 7 to a 13. So your knowledge and ability to walk and talk me through enabling the microphone for texting. You explained it so confidently, yet kindly. This video is a life saver! My finger kept activating the dictation feature from my text messaging screen which was annoying & potentially dangerous. My iphone would start dictating conversations unbeknownst to me or the other person I’d be speaking with! 😫
Great video. Thank you. Do you happen to know if there is a way to adjust the way the microphone behaves. To clarify: I want to be able to hold down the microphone and dictate my text, but then, when I release the microphone, I want it to turn off. Right now I tap the mic, turns on, but it doesn’t turn off until I tap the mic again.

hi ive gone form a iphone 6s to ipohone 13 mini,, ive used "voice to text" to send text messages for a long time and love it,,, on my iphone 6s when i use voice to text, you can say "new line" and siri would then go to the next line and then put in what your saying,, after i finish compilling my text message siri would repeat the message back to me and then ask me if i want to send, i say yes , then it sends the message, you can see the message layed out exactly how you asked it to be ,,,, like when you told siri to go to next line etc,,,, on this new iphone 13 mini, you can ask it to go to the next line and it will, then it will enter what your saying,,, but when you actually go to send the message the LINES are not defined,, the message is in just one continuous line which is driving me nuts! anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this? what is also driving me nuts is when you finish dictating a text msg the new 13 mini just says "send it",, it doesnt repeat the msg back to you b4 sending,, you have to always say "repeat msg", it will then repeat ithe msg to you b4 sending,, just extra shit you have to do, with each new iphone coming out aren't they suppose to be making life easier??lol, this is just extra shit you have to do, anoying and inefficient,, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My dictation is already enabled but when I touch it to dictate it has an X on microphone???? I went in and disabled, then enabled but I did not get the drop down box that was on the video. I just got this 13....

This did not work for me. I have already turned off dictation on my phone, but it will not disable. It will dictate everything I say even when I'm not using the microphone. Where do I turn on the microphone on/off?

This is also not the only way. For those that want to stop voice control is no longer listening (text while talk) go to accessibility, voice control. Shut that mofo off. Problem solved no more typing while you speak.
Some of us super dummies need to know how you got to the "Keyboard" section in settings? Or is it in settings?
Thank you… I think I have a different problem… I do not touch the microphone at all but if I’m trying to text anything it’s heard it appears in my text box without me doing a thing… so if there’s people around talking or listening to something that’s what it shows automatically 😢
Go to settings and turn off voice control. You can keep dictation on just in case you want to use the microphone though.

Hello,from the last few days I am facing a major issue in my iPhone 12 i.e. I can not see microphone on my keyboard when I am offline. Once I am online I can do voice typing. As you know voice typing is an important feature for writers. I contacted apple care support. They told me to do force restart, dictation was already enabled, software update to 15.5 using mac, reset all settings, and at last did factory reset. I lost many data. But then also, I am not able to access my mic offline. Please help me out. Other than that phone is working fine.

I can understand where you are coming from though because I am a write as well, so without the microphone feature - we’d have to write it all out by hand or type it. No thanks!!!
