  • Rock Hall Inductee Steve Miller performs his rock classics Rock'n Me and 1973 The Joker (5:23) with his long-time band members. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony performance took place on April 8, 2016 at Barclay Center, NY.
Rollingstone.com April 15, 2016: Steve Miller on Black Keys' Rock Hall Induction: 'I Was Gonna Ask Elton'
"My suggestion is to take the nominating committee, replace every one of them and start over," says newly inducted Hall of Famer.
In his first interview since his tumultuous entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Steve Miller explained exactly why he was so angry after his induction. "I think you should have a say in who’s going to induct you," Miller told the San Diego Tribune. "The guys who inducted me are nice guys, but they didn't know a thing about me. I was going to ask Elton [John]. He knows me and probably knows my music better than most people."
'We'll pick who inducts you, and it will be a surprise,'" he says. "'Oh, and here are all these things you have to sign off on for licensing.' I was like: 'What are you talking about? You guys need to calm down.'" (Dan Auerebach told Rolling Stone that he regrets agreeing to induct Miller.)
"He said, 'The whole process was unpleasant,'" Dan Auerbach says. "And for Pat and I, the most unpleasant part was being around him"
Miller was so irritated that he nearly pulled out of the show. "The day before, I was going back and forth, even though my band had flown in and we had some of our gear there and were ready," Miller said. "I felt like: 'I don't know if I want to do this.' The way everybody was treated [at the inductions] was just terrible. If I'd talked to Dr. Dre a day earlier, and learned what N.W.A was going through, I probably would have [bailed too]."
He was also unhappy with the way organizers treated him at the Brooklyn ceremony. "I didn't see [the board members] interact with any artists, at all, at the inductions," Miller said. "We were dumped in little holding pens, and told: 'OK, get out there sit at your table.' "OK, now get up and give your speech.' 'OK, now play your three songs.' 'OK, now give us your guitar and get out of here.' There wasn't anyone that made you feel good about being there, except the fans."

Just saw him last night and his voice was a lot better then it was in this video! It sounded pretty much exactly as it did back in the day! I think his current tour has given his vocal cords a work-out! Very fun concert! ❤️

It was nice growing up in the 70s with the Steve Miller Band. I always loved the song Mercury Blues. My late Brother Michael turned me on to Steve Miller. Thanks Michael. 🙏

Steve Miller’s contributions to music can never go understated. He was brilliant and a class act. He paved the way for many people to never hold back your creativity and to not limit yourself for anyone!

Steve Miller & his band are so great. I'm glad that Steve took the opportunity to air the R&RHoF's dirty laundry. I've only watched part of one broadcast since the 2016 broadcast because of their shitty business practices.. Thanks for uploading the video & Thanks you Steve Miller...

I would sell my SOUL to turn time back and be a young teen in the early 70's with things having remained the same EXCEPT for the death of James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix."

GOLDENFLYWARRIOR it was a LOT of fun! I was in my 20's in the 70's! Had so much fun and all these classic rock bands being on tour keep my youth alive! Blessings to you! You have good taste just like my 23-year old son! He loves all the old stuff especially Hendrix and Zeppelin! ❤️

No, no....live in your own time. There are wonderful things today, we never dreamed of in the 70s....such as the ability to watch this video on UA-cam. Be happy, have a good life living in the now.

They did, but then they took it down soon after because Steve said some bad things about the Hall of Fame.

Drummer plays ahead of the beat. Usually the opposite in rock music. Must be a Ringo disciple.
