just started watching the show and JUST finished the episode in this edit (one of my faves so far), and patrick is ofc a great character but dont yall think the show kind of sets him up with “gimmes”? like the show kind of glazes him and makes him like able to do anything without really an explanation. hell see a clue and immiedietaly get the answer without a propr thought process explainin it dont you guys think thats kind of cheap?
@@bid3299 Not from a psychology perspective, no. When rewatching and analyzing the episodes, you can sort of see how he came to these conclusions. He also explains them briefly, but if you're talking about Death Note-type explanations, it would have just made the writing of The Mentalist kind of edgy and unenjoyable. What makes The Mentalist good is that even genuine psychologists can watch the show and use their own knowledge in their fields and read micro-expressions, personality disorders and certain behaviours in order to solve the case themselves if they want to. The Mentalists is actually highly accurate most of the time and talks about psychological tricks that are genuine. But an Average person wouldn't be able to be as efficient and as successful as Jane.
