Didn’t even know that was him. I’ve been listening to the song for years but haven’t seen this video since the 2000’s. Ima stop talking cuz I realize I’m old now.
Rewatching this and shedding a tear after reading Jack’s eulogy for Paul Reubens. It seems this video was the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship for the two of them. RIP Paul. Thanks for all the laughs.
I have had this song as a staple to so many playlists like so many. But since I don’t have my iPod I searched the song. Paul Ruebens is such a hero of mine and I didn’t even realize that it was him. So.. I’ll be over here crying for a bit lol. He was such a great man.
Something bout the way he looks delivering the first lines at 0:40 is just captivating. Really looks like I’m watching an interview right before the race. Makes the song even more impactful just off that alone
I heard someone say the word "Steady" and my Jukebox Brain immediately went to "Steady As She Goes." I haven't heard this song in ages! I had to give it another listen and it's still Rock Worthy🤘 Thank you for sharing your art with all of us💙
I try to explain my connection to this song over and over to people and they just can’t seem to understand. I was born in 95 and loved The White Stripes as a kid, and I can remember watching mtv in the mornings moving into the preteen years and watching this music video before one of my first days of middle school and loving it. My bets friend at the time was the funniest person I’ve still ever met. I peed my actual pants on numerous occasions with her. One day after school, shortly after starting their as newcomers, we decide to put wigs and costumes on and run over to campus (she lived close by) and yell and harass the kids playing after school sports. I can remember her straight dark hair that was razor cut like Jack Lawrence’s and her putting on one of those glasses/mustache combos with nose and everything. I lost it. They looked identical. I associated her with him in this video the entire time and couldn’t hold it together. One of my funniest memories. Then fast forward to Coachella 2015 and being on a ton of drugs only to witness Jack White playing this song. I became the preteen I was in 06 and lost it all over again. Tried to explain to the unreceptive crowd I was with and failed. I’ve been sober for a couple years now so please don’t shame me 😅 hopefully someone finds this as funny as I still do.
There’s been many of occasions with my friends that I’ve had this laughter. That deep uncontrollable laughter that is dumb to everyone else but just gets you so good. Good times.
God I remember 10 years ago when I watched this video on Tv for the first time, I always felt bad for the losers, as they looked like they were in so much pain, I love this music video! Let's hope this band returns!
I loved this song since first time I heard it, then I was given a Music assignment and this song came up and I wrote about this song. I admire and respect Jack White. His collaberations with other musicians I admire the most.
I remember this video playing on tv in a small restaurant when I was around 6 years old while I was eating a hot dog and drinking a chocolate milkshake across from my social worker who was just about to take me back to my foster home
I was about to say damn i wish i remembered little moments and details like that about my life… but then i read the rest and realized ok that was definitely a possibly traumatic/scary/memorable whether good or bad moment for you so ofcourse you remember, sorry you went thru that btw. But i thought at first u just remembered some random time and exactly what u were doing and everything and i rlly dont remember any of those types of things. Probably due to the drug use over the years, oh well. Still kinda sucks tho lol bc it feels like theres a large portion of my life i didnt even live/experience since i just completely forget. Sometimes something makes me remember it or make me feel like ive done something similar hut cant fully remember and it feels fake or like deja vu or something its so strange lol
My dad and his buddies in his band they plan in for fun have been practicing this song lately and it keeps getting stuck in my head. Lately ive been waking up and having some random song stuck in my head it actually happens all the time, i guess i dream about it somehow 😂 🤷♂️ So many memories haha, i remember seeing this on much music and mtv as a kid and thinking the video was so fun with the cars n stuff, i never realized it was that jack white dude in this band singing tho, figured my pops woulda told me over the years as hes a huge white stripes fan and has dressed up as him for halloween before etc. Also didnt realize there were two different music videos, i never seen the other one before. But have so many memories of this being one of those first rock songs i loved as a kid, before i went more into hip-hop/rap. Still always appreciated rock and still do, and always go back to it. But rap is what i enjoy most now. Glad i got a mixture of both though from my parents and family etc to appreciate it all
I didnt understand this video when I first saw it on mtv decades ago... Now I just came back to it and since then my life has passed me by and I see jack understood that back then. You do everything right, take life steady and proper, and end up loosing because cheating really does get you ahead... Now I'm here alone and old and upset that I decided that I would take things stead as it goes, and was left behind.
Nice Song 👍💯👏 and group I been looking and trying to find this song who sang it what group it was I finally found it at last 😅 I am so happy glad that I did thanks for sharing ❤🙏🫶
Hahahaha fr i love that explanation i do things like that all the time especially bc i was addicted to xanax and benzodiazepines for years so alot of memories are false or just completely forgotten and or when they do come up it feels fake or like some sort of deja vu sometimes hard to tell if it is real or not
Hello. Please reupload at full quality, pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease. Thank you. This is an awesome song that needs to be done justice in super duper quality for future generations :D
Track/Song about is a call to a more stable, settled life. In the song, the narrator encourages the listener to find a supportive partner, create a simple but satisfying life in a small town, and generally slow down and make sure to take the time to appreciate life. The refrain of "steady as she goes" is a reminder to take life one step at a time and making sure everything is steady for a more relaxed and fulfilling lifestyle. The bridge drives this message home even further as the narrator encourages settling for a world and a girl who will be steady and supportive and not leave the listener feeling like they have "tripped and fell". Overall, the song is a reminder to take things steady, enjoy the small joys in life, and ultimately to take the time to appreciate what they have.
The 2nd and 3rd verses of this song are perfect to do Misheard Lyrics to. [2nd Verse] "You Have Yourself a kink In A Single life/ You had too much to drink/now you need a wine" [3rd Verse] "When you completed what you had to do/and you're constipated to the point of stable glue/then you get a loan/then you get a loan" 😁😁😁😁😊🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am fascinated by how this band understands we Boomers and in a sly way and allows us cultural space to be celebrated rather than vilified and mocked. Also, just a kick-ass song. I hear echoes of REM and the Beatles.
This brings me back to 9th grade (2007) playing this song in the school computer lab quietly and one day the volume fucked up and started blaring.....well shit the teacher didn’t like that much lol I got sent home and my computer privileges were banned for the rest of the year 😂😂
Another shining example of the limitless versatility of Paul Reubens. May he rest in peace. 🙏
Didn’t even know that was him. I’ve been listening to the song for years but haven’t seen this video since the 2000’s. Ima stop talking cuz I realize I’m old now.
Noticed the video says this was put out 15 years ago.. I thought it was 7 years ago... Didnt even realize Reubens was in the video but I see him now.
Was in Blues Brothers too as waiter😂
Rewatching this and shedding a tear after reading Jack’s eulogy for Paul Reubens. It seems this video was the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship for the two of them. RIP Paul. Thanks for all the laughs.
He was a great performer.
Can you share the link please?
I have had this song as a staple to so many playlists like so many. But since I don’t have my iPod I searched the song. Paul Ruebens is such a hero of mine and I didn’t even realize that it was him. So.. I’ll be over here crying for a bit lol. He was such a great man.
It's awesome that the drummer was able to keep the beat going even after that terrible dive off the cliff! Good music takes dedication!
Steady as he goes
Drives to the beat of his own drum.
*this is the most creative way to show the band members playing their instruments*
You should watch “otherside” by the chili peppers
This is the only way
Something bout the way he looks delivering the first lines at 0:40 is just captivating. Really looks like I’m watching an interview right before the race. Makes the song even more impactful just off that alone
I never knew that was Paul Reubens in this video until today 😲. RIP
I barely noticed today that it's paul ruebens. I'm like wait what!? The mustache gave it away as a disguise lol
😮
Just saw this for the 1st time!!! So much love😆
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here.
Jack White is so talented and sooooo stinking cute! Love his sparkling eyes, his sweet smile and that voice! 🤩❤🥰
Totalmente de acuerdo
I heard someone say the word "Steady" and my Jukebox Brain immediately went to "Steady As She Goes." I haven't heard this song in ages! I had to give it another listen and it's still Rock Worthy🤘 Thank you for sharing your art with all of us💙

Wow, it only took me THIRTEEN years to recognize Paul Reubens!!!
First time seeing this video, I recognized Paul Rubens immediately, RIP Pee Wee. I am officially obsessed with this song.

This was my all time favorite song in my all time favorite album. They literally perfected this album.
I'm a fan and I took his advice. Best decision of my life.
Saw Jack White one week ago exactly in Asheville. They did this song as part of the encore. Great show. So much fun!
I love everything about this music video

I love just how crazy and cartoony this video is!
Awesome song 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I loved this video and song as a kid! What a trip coming back and watching it on UA-cam over 15 years later.
HA , guess I'm a dinosaur I consider this new music ....I'm 56... but this song kicksass
I prefer this video over the other
well apparently not, as the other video has 21 million more views!!

I loved this song since first time I heard it, then I was given a Music assignment and this song came up and I wrote about this song. I admire and respect Jack White.
His collaberations with other musicians I admire the most.
I wish we could back into these times what a classic
I’ve been searching for this for so long. Heard on sing star when I was like 8 and remembered it 10 years later, but couldn’t remember the song
The first video I searched for on UA-cam, back in 2006.
RIP Paul Reubens!

My dad and his buddies in his band they plan in for fun have been practicing this song lately and it keeps getting stuck in my head. Lately ive been waking up and having some random song stuck in my head it actually happens all the time, i guess i dream about it somehow 😂 🤷♂️

Gwarn Pee Wee! RIP....ALL THE BEST FROM ENGLAND
That is an awesome music video!
One of the greatest videos ever.
When I’m pissed off, this song is like the musical equivalent of someone sneaking up and massaging my neck. Such an unexpected relief.
Oh dude same here! :DD
You had me at texas trojan pony
and the video even more than the song itself :D
Damn i needed this today
I was today years old when I realized that's Pee-wee Herman (Paul Reubens) playing the villian😮

I love how the drummer crashes and right when he hits the ground you here the crash symbol
This might be one of my favorite music videos ever. Way fucking under-rated.
Anyone know what type of ford pickup that is at 3:31
The sudden and quick "Copper Kid" always gets me lol
I like how the bag at 3:03 is very obviously filled with Tropical Punch Kool Aid.
WTF?! How does this only have 370k views?
Nice Song 👍💯👏 and group I been looking and trying to find this song who sang it what group it was I finally found it at last 😅 I am so happy glad that I did thanks for sharing ❤🙏🫶

First time I ever heard of Jack White and I fell in love ❤️
Frig I forgot completely about this song. This is amazing, one of my all time favourites!
Love that they got Peewee Herman to play the villain. This clip is awesome fun.
He certainly knew how to take matters into his own hands.
Found this song yesterday, I am in love with it! This video is awesome as well.
I found this song while coming down off mushrooms at my friends house and made sure to write it down so I didn’t forget it. Loved it ever since

Same! Hi from 2022!
I come back to this song and video every few years to remind myself this exist and it isn’t a false memory my brain made up
Hahahaha fr i love that explanation i do things like that all the time especially bc i was addicted to xanax and benzodiazepines for years so alot of memories are false or just completely forgotten and or when they do come up it feels fake or like some sort of deja vu sometimes hard to tell if it is real or not
RIP Paul Reubens.
Pewee Herman as the bad guy. Awesome.
Nostalgia😊

Great video! We love this song!
While many others introduction to Jack White was The White Stripes, this was my introduction to him and I remember it like it was yesterday.
This a top 3 music video of all time for me
The 2nd and 3rd verses of this song are perfect to do Misheard Lyrics to.
[2nd Verse]
"You Have Yourself a kink In A Single life/

[3rd Verse]
"When you completed what you had to do/and you're constipated to the point of stable glue/then you get a loan/then you get a loan"
😁😁😁😁😊🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This video is SO MUCH BETTER than the other one.
I agree but disagree at the same time...
R.I.P. Paul Reubens

This song really helped me
You've found yourself a friend that knows you well.⚡
This brings me back to 9th grade (2007) playing this song in the school computer lab quietly and one day the volume fucked up and started blaring.....well shit the teacher didn’t like that much lol I got sent home and my computer privileges were banned for the rest of the year 😂😂
