I recently left a hospital gift shop company that has about 500 stores across the country. I was an assistant district manager and the thing that frustrated me the most was their POS system. It has not been updated since what feels like the 1700s, and they also had an online store that you could purchase gifts for patients from every where in the world. But this POS system was supposed to keep track of what we had in each store.... it didn’t. And I don’t know what it is, but I’m so excited to see your POS system. Right before I left this company they started to integrate a online inventory system that was separate from the POS system, and on top of that they incorporated a separate rewards/newsletter mailing website. So a 40 year old company just recently started using 3 different programs and probably invested a ton more than you have in those programs. The POS they used was supposed to do it all, but it couldn’t keep up with the demand and the inventory and reward customer part of the system failed before I even started working there. I’m sorry for the rant but I have never been so happy to see a relatively new shop owner know what she needs and know what her store needs in a POS system to keep their store organized. Love it!
Just got a chance to watch this video because of the chaos here in Florida. Hopefully I'll get to fly back home to Jamaica. Be safe you and family in these trying times. I know business will definitely slow down but keep be of good courage. I pray the economy will not be hit harder and my prayers especially for small business owners as yourself Alli. We all have to be there for each other whether in person or through sharing kind words. In the late 1970s, I taught Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising classes at College of San Mateo and San Francisco State University. Of course, a lot has changed since then. Hey Alli, my name is Belinda and I have had a dream for years so many years to even count , my kids are my main priority to me and now I’ve added grandkids but they all have seen me talk and talk and read my journals and looked at my vision boards and I have to show them if you keep focused on DREAM and continue to work in that direction your dream will come TRUE! How did you purchase your merchandise without going to market or did you go to market? Where I live it seems everyone buys from the same place online and I know if you go to market there is so much more to choose from and I don’t want to be like everyone else or even sell what everyone else sells… I want my Boutique to be different as well as what I have to offer and I want to be reasonable and also all

I do own my own business but it’s a driving school and that doesn’t give me a easy come on in with Market… lol I don’t sell anything I just keep tickets from going on your record and on your insurance so there is no merchandise sold. 🤦♀️ So Please share your start up from your home

How many items did you start with for your online store? With covid, my online boutique is struggling. I’m at the point where I need to make the decision to re-brand or close up shop. I only started at the beginning of this year (pre-covid) not expecting there to be a global pandemic. I have busted my ass, and invested so much to just close shop. I do not want to give up. Also, if anyone has any CC/advice please do not hesitate to comment.

Does this sync with Shopify?
I had a small boutique in Branson, Mo from 2006-2008. It didn't survive the economic crash in 2008. While I loved having a boutique I had a lot of merchandise damaged from the dressing room. Rips, stains, makeup, etc! How do you handle the customers who disrespect your clothing while trying them on? The amount of "clean up" was not worth the sale most of the time.
merbear I try my best to keep my cool when stuff like that happens. Unfortunately it comes with the territory of retail as you know. It’s always disappointing it there’s not much you can do.
What advice can you give me on doing my first boutique
All I with so many products, pictures of products did you hire someone to help you scan everything into your POS? Do your vendors give you the info for your website?
Is the virus effecting your business or town?
Darlene O’Hara I added the products overtime. When I first opened I didn’t have very much inventory! The virus has infected two people in Reno, NV where one of my boutiques is located. It’s super scary but we’re taking all the precautions we can to stay safe. Sales haven’t suffered yet but I’m not really sure what’s going to happen!
Please stay safe and don’t handle money without sanitizer or gloves.

Kelly H it depends on your demographics. You can live in a small town in Virginia and they only change you $1000 bucks a month or want to open a shop in soho and they charge you $13000 a month. Try looking on looney.com or partnering with a real estate agent. I hope that helped!

Kelly H yes they do. If you go through a realtor they also charge. And don’t forget you may need to get different insurances as well as build out fees.
