I found Keto at age 62 and lost 75lbs in 7 months. I felt so good and felt confident I could now keep my weight down, so I quit smoking 🚭. I did ok, and knew I would gain some weight back. I lived near stores and could not afford to get my broken down Lexus repaired, so I sold it. But it felt great to take the 1/2 mile walk to the stores and just walk around looking at stuff for a few hours. I, also, had a great ProForm machine I loved, so I could keep walking in the extreme Las Vegas summer heat. I did ok, even after a bout of kidney stones that landed me in bed for three days fasting. Ketosis really kicked in after I passed the stones and started eating Keto again. Yay!!! That's when I was losing 1 lb. a day after being on Keto a month. I felt great!!!
Then my family moved to a newly built house in the middle of nowhere. I had no car, no busses ran there, and the closest stores were now 2 1/2 miles away! Too far to walk, like I used to, three or four times a week. I am 70 years old now, with major back and joint pains. I have been so sick after two years of trying to get back into Ketosis. My weight has creeped up almost 50 lbs.!!! I never had a sweet tooth until I quit smoking. Now I have a fierce one. That's most of the problem...the artificial sweeteners like allulose, monk fruit, erythritol, and stevia. My mouth gets so dry in Las Vegas that I have to have mints or ice all the time constantly or I'll start choking from the dryness. There is just so much water I can sip on! Since I got a very mild case of Covid two years ago, I have no sense of taste or smell, just sweet or salty. This makes eating a great challenge, but may be helpful when I start fasting. I tried Himalayan salt crystals, but they made my mouth drier. Ice is ok but my family, who are terrible narcissists and love to see me fail, told me I can only have one cup of ice per day. I pay rent,...it's their house, so I have to respect their rules. I really have nowhere else to go. They, also, look at me and tell me I'm crazy for now being Ketovore/Carnivore, and not wanting to be around their constant food addiction, negativity and demeaning remarks about me. I have to walk on eggshells around them. I wish that was a way to exercise because I'd be very thin by now with all the tip toeing and eggshell walking I do around them. 😂 Lol!
I tried walking around the block, but there are packs of feral dogs, coyotes and a mountain lion or two always trying to mess with me. Now I'm too tired, fat and in pain from inflammation to deal with walking around the block a bunch of times, and dealing with that issue. Too stressful! My family made me give away my ProForm saying they didn't have room for it and it was too heavy to move to the new house. So, now I feel the worst I have ever felt in my life! But I'm not giving up yet. I just discovered "Oxalate Poisoning" from one of your videos, and that might be what is happening now. I used to pile up raw spinach, loved my dark chocolate and ate avocados everyday, baked with and used almond flour alot, snacked on mega spoonfuls of peanut butter, tumeric was my main spice along with cinnamon, found out that the huge bag of Walmart brand Stevia was loaded with Maltodextrin!!! I developed severe joint pain, which got horribly worse and worse. I thought I was eating "healthy", when in fact, I was slowly killing myself. I realized I have been lied to my whole life. I am just telling you guys my story in case it will help someone in a similar situation. Prayer is the best weapon in this battle. 🙏 Will you pray for me as you feel led. I have 3 great children, 13 awesome grandchildren, and 2 fantastic great-grandchildren I don't want to die and leave yet. Thank you and many blessings on your journey to better health and a bright future!

Please don’t give up! You are a beautiful creation of God. I pray you can find a different supportive place to live. You can do this! Ask God every day for 1 thing you can do to be a success in all areas of your life. Read the Bible and then believe all God has to say a about you. Here is a big hug! I am 70 also and feel the best I have felt in years! I am at a great weight using Ketovore. This is the most free I have felt in decades. You can exercise in your bedroom if needed. I use 5 lb weights for some of my exercises. Try 15 to 30 min day for 5x week. Can do 5 minutes at a time several times during the day. I pray for 100% success for you. YOU CAN DO THIS. YOU DESERVE RESPECT. Love ❤️ and prayers. JK.

This podcast changed so much about how I think about my diet.
I learned a lot in the last few years since discovering carnivorism and quitting veganism, most of it on the more physical side. But this psychology of diet is a much bigger part than I realized, and perhaps why I still struggle with ice cream which I often crave at night time - anyone else?
And thank you, Judy! Your work is awesome and I'm still slowly finishing listening to everything from the 2023 Carnivore Summit. I had no idea this community had so many professionals. Carnivore is feeling less fringe these days :)

It is amazing how much time and effort we will spend on research before we purchase a new car… yet, when we go buy our food we just randomly and impulsively fill our cart with junk that does nothing to increase our health and well-being but, it satisfies our temporary desires and impulses… however, in the long-run, it destroys our overall health… yeah, I was guilty until 6 months ago then I got sick and tired of being and feeling sick and tired… after much research, I discovered the carnivore diet, adopted it as my own, and began to recover from my decades of nutritional self-abuse and addiction… I guess, unless you are dead, it’s never too late to recover.

Wow so powerful Chris, thank you for sharing this thought and yes very interesting. I'm curious if this comes down to a value and worth conversation. We often see the value (and high price tag) of a good car and are happy to do the research, yet when it comes to our body and health it's sometimes not seen as worthy to be treated with love. Also the slow trickle of daily "abuse" is hard to see right away until like you noticed you start feeling tired of feeling tired. Congrats on making some big changes for you that's just amazing!

@@danielledaem You make a good point about the initial cost of an automobile vs food but, over time, we probably spend more on food than we do an automobile though we do not recognize it in the short run... moreover, food has a lot more effect on our health and well-being when you factor in medical, prescription, and hospital costs... thanks for the congrats and I hope for much success in your health journey.

If you add nothing, most say it's fine. If you add cream or fats that add calories, then some believe there's an amount that will inhibit autophagy. Find what works for you. Fat fasting is still beneficial in reducing insulin and glucose levels. That said, I'm not a fan of OMAD and OMAD is not ideal for weight loss long term. Thank you for voicing what's coming up for you here. I appreciate that the conversation and topic around trauma is COMPLICATED and very nuanced. I want to clarify that when we talk about trauma it's not about making anyone a victim. It's about honouring that we all have had experience that have shaped the way our nervous system and brain respond to the world around us... and these can dramatically shape how we feel safe or not in our body to express emotions instead of eating sugar to numb out. Again I'm acknowledging this is a tricky topic and one in which we can actually acknowledge and accept our experiences and then step into our power to heal them and work through our stored energies in this way.
