- www.therenegaderoadhouse.co/ We streamed southern rock, pop and country 24/7 until 1/1/16, now shuttered because of excessive royalty rates.
(The Chantels should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...rgjraccoon) (WOI, born of the atom? see below)
Saturday night, February 1, 1958, and the kids are in the WOI-TV studio on the Iowa State campus in Ames. No semi-famous "regulars" jockeying for camera time in Philly, just kids having fun and being themselves. They've had their tickets for months waiting to get on the show. Time for a slow dance...The Chantels "Maybe"
WOI-TV, atomic-powered television? It didn't use nuclear power, at least not at first. But it's been strongly rumored that Iowa State College (now University) got the seed money to build the station by helping to enrich uranium for the Manhattan project during WWII.
Presented by The Renegade Roadhouse...southern rock pop and country 24/7, find us on facebook or go to www.TheRenegadeRoadhouse.Co
She has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.....WOW!!!!
Yes sir that girl had a good voice that's for sure
This Was Our Song In 1958, Wish We Were Still Togher, I Loved Her So!!
.. Everything about this video I love... The Chantels from 1958., The Chantels 1st song from 1958...The dancing to the song is awesome, Thanks for this..
I absolutely love this video and the song is my favorite by a female group. The lead is incomparable.
Arlene was her name. She was only 16 years old. Great song.😊
Oh how I remember this
that is adorable !..wow , their clothes , hairstyles , dancing...omg...I love it..thanks
This era must’ve been an incredible time to grow up! Better music and life was much simpler.
🎶🎶❤️ Absolutely....The Greatest..😊❤️🎶
Sure for you as long as their no black dancers on this show.
The best time ever never will forget it .
It was!
Yes it was.😊
I love slow dancing to 50's & 60's... Sooo romantic...
On this day in 1958 {March 1st} the Chantels performed "Maybe" on the ABC-TV program 'The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show'
Two months earlier on Jan. 20th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #15 & spent 18 weeks on the Top 100
It reached #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart
Two covered versions charted; The Shangri-Las {#91 in 1965} and The Three Degrees {#29 in 1970}
Original member Jackie Landry Jackson passed away on December 23rd, 1997 at age 56
So sweet!! :') I wish I was a kid in the 50's!
Glad I got to live in that era.when.people were kinder and cared for you and me
Minus racism yeah I agree😂
This has to be the best....Love the blond haired girl singing along with the music.
The guy with the dark coat really knows how to Dip!!
Love it...brings back memories of Dick Clark AB.
+Lindy Lu Erickson Of the five songs I've reposted from this show, this is my favorite. The lip-syncing, the dancing, and one of the best doo-wop groups of all time....
@@rgjraccoon Arlene Smith of the Chantels
The guy with the dark coat really knows how to Dip!! and he has dreamy eyes wow
That was just the most refreshing, wonderful, video to watch ever! It makes me long for days long gone bye. It was such a time of innocence.
And for you racism yea so refreshing for you not to have no black teenagers dancing on the show
Awesome time in America , the country was strong , the dollar was strong the music was awesome . This you might say is frozen in time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the sad thing is that they're gone forever...
Bring it on home Chantels i love you all !!
Examples like this is why they called the 1950's one of the best times to grow up ever! Look how nice and polite and innocent these kids look. Sure they had other ideas running through their heads... they were teenagers with hormones, but everyone kept it in check, and they knew better! We sure could use a HUGE dose of this today!
For sure it's so my friend. I was one of those dreamers. Now I am 83...
Oh look how it not one black teenager dancing here on the show nothing like the innocent racist 1950s.
for sure
priceless the show the kids, the dancing
They always make me cry! When I hear their music! Reminds me when driving in my 1953 Buick w/ my kitten!
Thanks again for your time and consideration with this so amazing music 😅😘😎😂👍
Sing Chantels! Beautifully done.

They are having fun
Those kids are so sweet. One of the girls is about a foot taller than her partner. Check out the smooth moves of the guy at 2:12.
The best female group to come outta The Bronx, NY....if not for Arlene Smith (Lead/Songwriter) there would never have been a group, she wrote their first hit, "He's Gone" and co-wrote "Maybe" a hugh hit for them...Ms. Arlene still llives in The Bronx NY.
what a voice beautuful
Aww that's sweet 😍❤️💕why don't young couples charish each other like that anymore.we need to love one another as much as possible and show the romantic side like 1950's
Fantastic!Thankyou for posting.
I was on Seventeen in 1958-1959 and my date and I won the dance contest that they had. We are 78 and 79 now. Would love to find that footage of dance, the song was Rocken Robin.
Incredible, that show , you were there ! , wow ! Beautiful footage !
Fantastic watching that show those times were fantastic , and you were there love watching and listening we had similar shows in the uk .
This is my favorite of the four I've posted from "Seventeen" for the very reasons you describe. I wasn't around yet but I'm old enough to have seen the changes.
It's a beautiful thing
this is what kids of america should be doing and not comitting suicide on facebook live.
They should watch the wonder years from 1988-1993 it's about 1960's and early 1970's in a tv show.
I totally agree with you on that one.
Not a skank in sight! And everyone is slender. God, How I miss those days.
I agree with u what great days
Wtf kinda drug are u? They all look like dogs. Lame too. Absolutely 0 sex appeal.
@@jwfriedman1 dogs?? All of them full of innocence, youth, and more self respect than many today.
Nothing more attractive than a smart, independent, self confident/respectful, loyal woman
What are you looking for?
There were skanks back then, it’s just that you wouldn’t know who was one cause females didn’t show everything like they do now. Back then you couldn’t tell the difference between a virgin and skank because they all dressed alike. No one really wore revealing clothes.
Also I have danced so... we were so innocent... long time ago...
I want someone to love like this
Wonderful Rock-A-Ballad! I love it.
That was nice. Well done.
I bet most of them grew up to be delightful people
Now this was original
Slow dance time from 1957.
plus at :39 the little wiseacre looks up to see the camera is on him and mocks a surprised expression. His grandkids shouldn't let him live this down!
Indeed...I liked the lip-syncing, don't know if she was trying to watch herself lip-sync on a TV monitor or if she just got busted when she saw the camera was on her. Either way it's fun...this is my favorite song of the several clips from this show
Russ Johnson She looked so sweet when she saw she was being filmed and stopped singing.
Several of these younger kids are dancing with their siblings. lol It's true. Imagine your the little brother who was dragged their by your sis---and "warned" to be on their best behavior. These programs are so sweet and precious now.
B Metz That was the good thing about having plenty of younger siblings: you always had a little posse.
When this song would come on The DJ would say ladies choice
💓Good Times....So Many Memories....They will always remain in My Heart Forever🥰💖✌️
My frien im.mexican and thas songs were the best at the world
When nerds ran the world. I wish I had a time machine.
They still run the world. They're called big tech
Great great footage. The Chantels are so cool as well. The couple at 1.42 obviously think they're the coolest!
M Jamieson they were at the top!
Sweet an innocent,my guy in blk shirt got the dip☺️
Sweet of the girl dancing with the little guy
Amazing Theme!
Yes, I'd sy some of the boys are a bit dressed down, a couple of em almost looked "hoody." I suspect (but don't know) that Seventeen may have been produced by Iowa State College (now University) students, as the school owned WOI-TV at the time and used the station at times for students to get hands-on experience. So they may have been more lax on the dress code than most other shows.
"Maybe" is one of my top ten favorite songs of all time...
Russ Johnson have you heard the Janice Joplin version? It’s a hoot!!
I wonder how many are still with us.
Not a skank, thug amongst them.
Remember me this way😎
1:45 Those two must have been the Bob & Justine of Iowa!!
LandondeeL They were a gorgeous couple.
1:49 the girl singing along :D x
I think they already are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
you are correct! Looks like I wasn't paying attention
SIEMPRE
❤️😘😜😄
Oh!America!America!!!
I wonder who that beautiful blonde was at 1:45?
Sweetness Alert... 2:45:00
did i mention along with sweaty palms the stepping on her toes..
Shout out to 1:23 for being on beat 😂
true babyboomer tune!!
1955??
Wow! Doctor Giggles 0:58
when guys were guys, and girls were girls. I miss those times profoundly. I'm no prude but i detest the skankiness that poses as sexy in this era. It's all put on, putrid, and vile.
coyotesong your just old that's all.. Now go and drink your prune juice
Hear, hear! You said it.
Your grandparents said the same shit about your generation. They were disgusted by the music you listened to and what you wore.
There are good kids today, too. I see what you are saying, however.
Live your life to the fullest and fuck what others think or say...make the best out of it that you never regret when you are old
Cute
Unfortunately, these kids can't dance like the Philly kids!😂
I laugh at how these dancers appear to range in age from pre-teen to practically middle-aged. I know nobody is actually that old, of course, but some look mature physically as well as in their demeanor and attitude - like the lip-synching blonde girl, for example. Meanwhile there's the short little squirt in the dark sweater dancing with the much taller girl at 0:16, at the other end of the age scale.
WHY NOT A BLACK COUPLE DANCING
Oh please!...this was out west in Ames, Iowa in the 50's and I doubt that there were many if any blacks in the particular area/school district where this was filmed. This was obviously not the big city TV show American Bandstand filmed in Philly then NYC which did include blacks and other minorities.
Where was this at? Gooney Island? Ha ha!
They're dancing too fast.
Ok where the black kid's ?
WHERE ARE THE GREEN KIDS?
WHERE ARE THE PURPLE KIDS?
Nathan Pretlow
Nathan Pretlow they're the ones singing :)
Olly And one of the finest doo-wop groups bar none
Nathan Pretlow ...no black kids but in another clip from this show ua-cam.com/video/4c-_y58ap_k/v-deo.html at 2min:03 sec in there is an interracial couple dancing for what it's worth..
