Im very interested in doing exactly what you are doing, a sound tech on a cruise. Im still a student in University though, So what trainings did you do/have before applying vs what training did they provide? Were there any trainings you recommend? Really interested in learning as much as possible. Thanks!
I didn’t have an specific trainings in order to get in with this ship. I had done a lot of work as a sound tech on land. I had my bachelor of music and had work experience as a sound tech on land. That’s as far as I went with specific trainings
Hey Christine! Thank you for these videos ! Im currently trying to apply for a cruise sound tech job, but I have a doubt about arriving on the ship. If I live in brazil and the ship departs from florida for example, the company pays my flight to arrive to the ship or I have to pay from my own money? I tryed to search for this information but didnt found anything about it on the internet.
I’m can’t speak for all companies but Royal pay for all your transport to and from the ship. I’m pretty sure that is a given with most companies though
Hi there, I have a few videos coming but I will add in a new one about the application process. There is a lot of demand for sound technicians on board cruise ships. So once you are in it should be easy get assigned to a ship
@@christinecaldbeck I second this. I have a friend who is a cruise director, he's currently with Viking, but has worked for Celebrity, Seaborn, P&O to name only a few... He's sending me vacancies for sound/lighting techs all the time. Definitely sign up for their job boards! I'm on the fence though; not sure if I should take the plunge or not...
Hi there. My first interview was August 1st. My final interview was August 19th, that’s when I got my offer. I started my contract on November 7…. This is because I had my visa/medical etc. in order by mid-September. Once you have there in order you can request to start sooner. I was asked to start on October 9 but couldn’t start until November because of other work reasons
So medical differ from country to country. Some a very expensive and others are only €100/€200. So it does depend on the country you are from, royal does refund the cost of your medical once you get it done by the approved medical practices.
@Christine Caldbeck ah interesting, ended up paying £500 for mine, getting close till I join celeb solstice so I don't have much time to shop about anymore, it's cool that royal refunds it, I will see if celebrity does too, I honestly cannot remember,
