Well, I’d never heard of him before. Glad that’s fixed. Wow!!! There’s so much to unpack in that I won’t really try (much). Let me just say I love this song with bagpipe accompaniment…but guess what?!? The harmonica works beautifully too. Loved it! Then of course there’s *that voice* . His classical “power tenor” sound is exceptional…and then with the build into metal???? Just WOW!!!!

@@ninaschofield, I heard on the grapevine that he is opening for Dimash Kudaibergen when he does a concert in Brazil. Dan is classically trained and does a great version of NESSUM DORMA. If you could do that and a couple of songs of TOM BALL. He was on BGT about a year ago and did 3 songs last one being I WHO HAVE NOTHING that was crazy good. Tom later did AGT with 3 songs on that. Please do the I who have nothing from the contest rather than the single from his album.
The harmonica means a lot to Dan, he was given it as a child by his father and was the first instrument he learned to play. Dan lost his father a couple of years ago and he was a big Elvis fan so Dan did a cover of An American Trilogy and dedicated it to his father :)

My Dad died last year. He was welsh and loved his singing (And Rugby lol) He left instructions for the songs at his funeral. This was the version of "Amazing Grace" he wanted. Such a great cover of this song.........................

My dad died in May of 2009 at 51 from GBM (brain cancer). He was a Christian and was in a quartet that was 5 guys called 4given. Just a local group and yes I know a quartet is 4, but that's the way he would describe the group. Maybe related to his goofy sense of humor. Anyhow, I'm not really a believer like he was, but hearing Amazing Grace in any form is a bit emotional for me. Bagpipe version probably moreso than any other version, save this one. It's like I can almost hear my dad singing this, without the metal parts. I made a couple of slideshows with some of the songs his group sang and were able to record. I did them like 13 years ago so they're absolute trash, but I can always come back and hear my dad's voice.
If you're interested and listen to it, the "lead" is my dad. He's kinda got a lounge singer type quality to his voice. The channel is essentially dead because I lost the login information for it.

Greg I have to thank you very much. Being in Dan's rabbit hole is a wonderful experience. I am in there since I found his "Amacing Grace" on youtube. He evokes positive feelings in his listeners. After the end of a lot of songs Dan turns to us and I can tell he cares about us. We get positive messages that can help to get better through the day. Dan is not only an amazing singer, he is very wise from a young age on, he is a helpful motivator and sometimes he shows us that he is a talented comedian.

I'm sure this is the best version of this song I will ever hear. The power he puts into it after paying proper tribute to this most beloved song leads the listener into a faith journey that leads to the Throne of God. For any that wonder he states he is Christian and put this out for Easter. Dan's work is mostly secular in nature. He is Brazilian; the harmonica is a childhood gift from his father who passed in 2917. As I'm sure you can tell from your profession he has worked on that voice for years to produce that amazing sound. He has a lot more showing various tools in his vocal toolbox.

Brasileiro que infelizmente parece não ter orgulho da própria língua né, mas eu concordo com vc em um ponto, ele tem um timbre vocal incrivel principalmente nas regiões mais agudas, na linha de iron maiden, angra, halloween e outras bandas que ele faz cover. Uma pena ele se dirigir tão pouco a nós brasileiros.
I first heard this rendition by Dan Vasc three weeks ago. I shared this with my 82 year old mother. After my mother listening to Dan's version. She called me back in tears saying she has not heard anyone sing Amazing Grace so emotion, and power moved by the Holy Spirit as when she saw Elvis Presley perform it.

Same!! I'm a PK (Preacher's Kid) and have sung this and heard it probably thousands of times throughout my lifetime (55 yrs). I still get goosebumps when I hear it. It's like every time is the first time. David Phelps used to be my favorite tenor... but sorry, David, Dan's my man now! Lol. I truly believe that this once-in-a-lifetime version of Amazing Grace was done to bring light and hope to our troubled world. I'm a Jesus Christ follower, and feel our Savior's return is imminent. Dan's voice is sooo versatile. I can't recommend anything in particular because all the songs he has sung/covered to date, and there are quite a few, are just wonderful ❤❤

Dan Vasc has a God given talent that he has perfected into what it is today. He sang this song the way it was MEANT to be sung with such respect, emotion & with a POWERFUL impact. Rabbit hole doesn't do Dan justice. I believe he is more of a rabbit farm. He does religious covers, female covers, Christmas covers the US national anthem, and he's a proud Brazilian, and perhaps the best cover of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar I have ever heard, and I have heard dozens.
Try his version of Nessun Dorma - I cry every time I watch it. Dare I say - it's better than original.....

I remember the first time I heard Dan and it was this cover. What an introduction to his voice! Absolutely amazing! Enjoyed your critique Nina of his arrangement.
My three year old absolutely adores Dan Vasc. Theres just something about his vidoes and performances that hold the eye. All of his videos are genuinely fantastic and i would highly encourage you to watch as many as you can. Even if you catch an older video you'll be able to see just how far hes come in terms of video production and how much his vocals have developed. He's genuinely fantastic :)
Also in terms of his pronunciation of English words has improved drastically which has really added to his impressive performances

I am going to be 60 years old next month and I have never heard it sung this way totally breathtaking, incredible I've been hearing it since April a little after Easter. Dan Vasc is an amazing singer and performer. He has incredible range and vocal control. He took lessons years ago, taught singing, and has 10+ years of a wide variety of covers on his channel. He records his performance 3 times to get various camera angles and then he edits the videos, does the audio mixing, etc. - very talented, never boring. Recommend so many great performances: Gethsemane, Burn Butcher Burn (Witcher song), Song of the White Wolf (Witcher song), 10 Epic Power Metal Songs in 6 Minutes, Nessun Dorma, Handel's Messiah (he sings ALL the parts), My Mother Told Me, Priscilla's Song (Metal), Last Ride of the Day, Pumpkins United. Sooo many great covers!! Enjoy!!

His subs have now climbed up to 815K (as of about noon on July 8, 2023) since you did your reaction. He had 798K on June 15. It was somewhere in the 600K range (642K, I think, but can't remember for sure), on the day after he posted the video when I first saw it pop up in my suggestions. I hadn't yet heard him talking about his (first really big) goal (I'm sure he'll have bigger ones, soon) of 1,000,000 subs, so only began my chart on June 15. The change from July 7 to July 8, was 2000 subs. That's the first time I've seen it jump that far so quickly. However, there was an overnight stall from the 5th to the 6th, so the double-jump from the 6th to the 7th just made up for that. Most days have been adding 1000 subscriptions, in pretty good marching order. 😀

We all felt the same way, this was the 1st thing I'd seen of Dan and when it was done I was like OK WOW I NEED TO HEAR MORE! He's so talented and to see him talk at the end of some of his videos haha he has an amazing personality and KNOWS who he is completely and I love that!
Thank you for reviewing Dan Vasc. I just discovered Dan yesterday. I have been listening to everything of his I can find, and I have been in a state of tears nearly constantly. I am always stunned to find that out there floating around in our world, are people we have never heard of who are doing amazing and heroic acts. I am so blessed to have found him. I am a better person now for having heard his voice.
Thank you for recognizing the sheer talent here, but beyond d that, the training. You see it most in his operatic covers (what metal artist would go there? ) or his cover of Disney Classic I'll make a man out of you. So much range, variety. Angels we have heard on high...4 languages and keys and backs as his own choir. Truly a talent to pay attention to.
My favorite covers by him are "I'll Make A Man Out of You" from Mulan, "The Last Stand" from Sabaton, "Angels We Have Heard on High".
Other notable covers are, "The Sound of Silence" from Disturbed, "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher" from the Witcher series, and "Love Me Tender" from Elvis (mostly because lf the bittersweet story he adds in the beginning).
I first discovered him lver a year and a half ago through an original intro song he made for one of his favorite UA-cam streams/shows called Friday Night Tights. The first time I tuned into that stream and heard that intro song and saw the video, I was hooked and have been watching every week since. It really pumps you up for the show.

As a classicly train singer, Dan has amazing vocal control and breathing techniques. He has a very dynamic range and knows how to create beautiful sounds with his voice. One thing that another vocal coach talked about was the way he keeps his shoulders back and his chest open to help control his breathing. You should check out his covers of Beauty and the Beast and I'll Make A Man Out Of You.

Magnificent performance
My Grandfather passed when I was 12 and he used to sing this in church all the time. I'm 39 now and a couple years after his passing, a high school band with bagpipes played it and I was sobbing. Needless to say, until this cover, I hadn't been brought to tears since that marching band played it until I heard Dan's cover. It just brought out that heartbreak all over again and I loved it.
