The 2022 US Open runs from August 23 - September 11 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 142nd time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Daniil Medvedev is the men’s singles reigning champion and Emma Raducanu is the women’s singles reigning champion. Last year, both players claimed their first Grand Slam title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. This year’s tournament is set to feature a range of greats and future stars looking to add to their records and cement their place in tennis history. JCF stayed with Alcaraz when he was 16 when he could have left to coach higher ranked players. But he didn’t. And look at them now. Congratulations to them both! 🎾🏆🇪🇸

This is in contrast to Rafa and Roger who almost always looked serious on court. I don't think I've ever seen Rafa smile after a point 🤯
All of his shots are magic, he plays the whole court, and he's a physical powerhouse.
He lost the US Open final as a player and won the US Open final as a coach. What a satisfying moment.

Loooove this guy. He was one of my favourites growing up. So thankful he stuck to tennis even after his career and went on to become one of the best coaches in his own academy, which has already produced some incredible talents without much fanfare. Happy to see this bond between Carlos and Juan Carlos, I really do see them working together for many years to come.

I was a *big* JCF stan, too. I can't even remember what year it was when I last saw him give a press conference, but who'd have thought we'd be hearing from him again? I love every minute of it, and I hope Alcaraz keeps him for a long time. Dumping Zverev the best decision ever.
Ferrero was always my favourite player. Loved the guy back in days and love he is coaching Alcaraz now.

Oh love to see Juan Carlos again in press conference. Seems it was just yesterday when he was the player & bombarded with enormous questions. I really miss seeing him, wish he could have stayed a little bit longer as a player. He could have won more. Happy too that he is able to coach the future of tennis.

I was at the USopen finals, After the Alcaraz won and giving back to back interviews JCF was folding Alcaraz's sweaty towels and packing his bags. Strong lovable bonding. We will see them going to the conquer the tennis world together.

The best coach is someone who can see the very best in raw unpolished talents. Someone who can see someone's potential beyond present time & someone who believe in it and investing the time on it

Sports games, players, training and philosophy produces sooooooo many great life lessons. They ability for Alcaraz to listen AND trust his coach; the ability for his coach have a long term multi-year incremental success view with Alcaraz are priceless lessons.

I always thought the emotions were Alcaraz' biggest enemy as he's expressive and young, and I was very concerned especially when all the pressure and expectations were dumped on him.
Fortunately, Juan Carlos Ferrero is exactly the coach he needs to succeed, just pay attention last night's game when everyone else was cheering and fist pumping for Alcaraz after a big point, JCF was the only one looking serious and gesturing with both of his hands to tell Alcaraz to stay calm and focused. Alcaraz then proceed to hit like 6 aces in the last 2 serve games to win the title.
Yeah, I noticed this in other matches as well. He really knows what he's doing. Even his reaction when Alcaraz was ranting at him during the Sinner (?) match was chill. No unnecessary tension or panic. Did you hear the commies say JCF made the decision for Alcaraz and the team to get to the stadium early in the morning, away from the buzz and attention at the hotel? Love it, love it, love it.
@Andy, Exactly. I was waiting to hear how much better carlos could get in the future. JCF just answered that part (60%), man that is scary. Imagine if he serves like he did in set 4. That was pulverising stuff. I pray that their partnership continues for as long as possible and that carlos stays happy, hungry and motivated. And yes, if he sticks with it anything is possible.
Exactly, it was a masterclass in coaching as well; the only thing I’ve seen Ferrero respond to without that look of calm, focused control was that behind the back shot Alcaraz hit against sinner.

Ferrero is the man, rejected Sharapova and brought us a great relief once Big3 retires, Superhero.
Carlos & JCF are a great team. There are no shortcuts in tennis, & Carlos is willing to put in all the hard work that JCF knows is required. My understanding is that Zverev's lack of discipline & unwillingness to put in the work are the reasons why he & JCF didn't last long.
But this seems like a match of strength for strength. Can't wait to see what Carlos brings to the courts over the next year or two.

Love the fact that JCF doesn't hesitate to speak his mind and shy away from confidently stating that he wasn't too surprised or that he thinks Alcaraz can dominate tennis along with Sinner.
Tbh, Sinner is going too far imo but anyone can see that Alcaraz has everything and since he comes after the BIG3 are pretty much done and gone - he will have a lot of success unless he starts getting injuries from all the 5 setters.

You can't learn or practice what Carlos has! He was born with it. Sure, you have to practice, and study, and learn, and gain experience, but what Carlos has comes from within! The guy is a freak!!

He has certain physical genetic gifts as well. He's 19 and strong as an Ox. Yeah, you can train for that, but you can't train for speed. Sure you can improve your speed, but in the end genetics wins out.

@@AinSoph73 Sinner served for the match in the 4th set, and until that point he looked to be on top! Compare that to how Carlos served out the match in the final. No sign of nerves!! You can improve your speed, but you may not be as fast as someone who is naturally fast. It's genetics!!

Didn't get until tennis until long after Rafa and uncle Toni went their separate ways but i just haven't seen a coach-player dynamic that is both heartwarming and perfect. Take one look at Carlitos and JCF and you see a winning team. Carlos is gonna be an absolute titan on tour as he improves more and more.

I wasn't surprised, lol. I don't think many people were surprised Carlos won because if you knew what he did before, you knew his skill level was *UP* there (his tiebreaker record is rough, but that's it... like that's literally the only thing).
I'm glad they interviewed Carlos' coach, he showed minimal emotion during the matches and it was really sad to see. Maybe it's because he's been in the situations before and only decided to cheer when something was final (like winning a set or a *pivotal point* (not an amazing play). Congrats to Alcaraz for winning the 2022 US Open!!
His tiebreaker record is rough and yet, he won the tiebreaker in de final, where and when really matters.

Sometimes, yes. The winning player's coach especially. They are also given a trophy.

first time and remember Becker was not quite 17 when winning Wimbledon and he did it 3 times! At that level, specially concerning
prize money you have to improve all the time to stay on top. He has a long way to go and they are lifting him up as if he was a new messiah.

@@juttaweise Ferrero was the coach of Zverev as well, and refused to coach him because of his work ethic. This alone says a lot about Alcaraz. If Becker won his first GS at 17 and didn't improve at such a young age, says a lot about Becker. Watch Alcaraz improve until next year, he will be soon unstoppable, mark my words.
JCF said it best when asked to explain the greatness of Carlis: “It is difficult to pit all this into words.” Just like explaining the greatness of the Big 3 or a great artist or a great actor, one could use all the words in the dictionary and still not capture the essence of the greatness.

unpopular opinion: Carlos will move so far ahead of Sinner in the years to come it won't even be close. I know they played a banger of match this US Open, but I have a hunch that Carlos will dominate the tour in a couple of years the same way Fed did back in his day.

Actually, Sinner surprised me in one aspect. I didn't expect him to serve at 130 mph at Wimbledon. It is true his career had stagnanted a bit until he faced Alcaraz at Wimbledon, but he made a statement with that win. He is serving consistently big now, so he will be a threat to anyone. His mental strength in big match situations will be questioned though until he proves otherwise. Let's not forget, he lost to the last two eventual slam champions in five setters. By the same token Alcaraz needs to serve like he did in set 4 consistently to avoid wear and tear, at least on faster surfaces

Just the fact Alcaraz could serve that big in such a high pressure moment should tell us all what this young man will be capable of in the future. Next year he will be unstoppable, mark my words.

But the biggest difference between him and Rafa is the latter had to work hard to develop his weapons over time (excluding his forehand), Carlos has a huge advantage in the sense he doesn't have to, so the serve becomes all the more important, on clay he can focus on placement rather than pace but definitely strike a balance on faster surfaces like sinner is doing now

Tennis is all about a few points that can mean win or lose. Very funny to think that this muscular young man was a spaghetti a few years ago. They built a strong base hope he stays healthy. I'm thinking DelPotro as an example. Heard he was in NY too bad they didn't find him in the crowd. Another young man that was unlucky this time is Felix Auger Aliassime. Plenty of unknown factors in a carrier. Relaxing and keeping it fun is very important. I remember when uncle Tony said he sometimes let the team go out to dinner and he would stay behind so they could be without supervision.

6:22 JC (and Carlos agreed with him in his press conference) says Carlos is only playing at 60% of his ultimate level. I'm not sure what Carlos's final form game would entail... All his serves will be aces and every first serve of his opponent will be returned as a winner? There's obviously plenty of room for improvement, especially in more patiently converting break points and set points, as well as service game consistency, but to think he could play almost at twice the level he his already playing is both an intimidating prospect and potentially physically unachievable..
Carlos is amazing at 19 but he has a lot of improvement needed. Unforced Error could be the very first thing he needs to work on. Closing a match on time could be another (u cannot win every grand slam having so many 5 set matches). Remember how Nadal developed from an beast to a Fu**king Monster from 2005 to 2008.
No, his assessment sounds not far off, he loses far too many points due to unforsed errors. He's so talented he gets away with it, but if he was better at deciding which shot he can take on a winner and which needs more shots to build to a less risky winner, his win percentage would go up a lot higher and he'd be almost unbeatable.
Then there's improving handling nerves in important moments, and upping the level at those moments, for tiebreaks, break points etc.
Etc etc
The big 3 went though this transformation too, from just making it to the final and winning to almost not lossing a set all the way to the final.
