The XG500 has more surround sound and excellent mids. But the XP500 sounds better in the higher frequencies, which makes the sound appear more transparent. There is no unambiguous leader here, if you do not take into account the price of course

XP 500 sounds clear and loud 📢.. because of it's large driver size 👍.
i think that bcs of the fabric that sony uses with the drivers cuz remember when they first added fabric on the xb41, people were complaining the speaker was a little bit muffled since that,but i think they solve it by adding a new fabric which u can see a bit of the driver without the lights on in the xb43
@@afiqlagi6163 no. The fabric does very little, and are usually acoustically transparent enough. Bigger issue is Sony's crappy DSP implementation and cheap full range drivers combined with underpowered tweeters.
Nothing to do with the driver size here.
@@JuanAuribus the tweeters on the xg500 aren't unpowered and the woofers looks pretty well built just the tuning isn't good
The XP500 is louder on max volume but it has to be plugged in to get the maximum!!
XG500 With adjusted EQ is the nuts.
What settings are you using?
I think it would help if you'd include some classical music and jazz to the mix. These are more critical genres that should add to a proper test of the output of a device.

Listening to this on my JBL T450 the XP500 sounds much more open and has an overall balanced sound with the bass, mids and highs.. I'll need to hear it in person to be certain for sure.
Love your reviews Willington! Can trust you'd help me sort out couple of these confusions. So, I'm pretty much into debate, amongst these speakers, Boombox 2 and Hyperboom. Looking for a clear, crispy sound provided the bass at lower frequencies shouldn't be compensated. What do you think can deliver better my needs, let's not bring their prices to the decision? Secondly, it seems here in India, the Hyperboom has gone out of stock, and can't expect it to arrive back, im anytime within 3 months. So, if I go with Boombox 2(owing to its availability better ) , does that thing compensate with the sound quality in any manner? Or should I be biased enough to hold on, until the thing arrives back? Third, does the Boombox 2 really does drops the that sound signature, around higher volumes, say 80 percent? And lastly, if I were to listen, around 50 percent volume, which one would you suggest would vibe out better ?
I would get the boombox 2, sounds pretty good, unless you want something louder, I would go with a partybox 110
The XG500 has much better battery life and build quality, yet is lighter and more compact. That's why it costs more. I got mine ebay refurbished - like new - for $150.

It is for sure. I have both and the clarity and detail in the upper range is a lot better with the XP500.
The XG500 sounds a bit better quality than the XP500, however I was expecting a bigger difference, because of the price difference. And of course I was expecting the XP500 to be louder too. I think it is very clear that the meaning of this speaker is to sacrifice a bit of the quality for a louder sound.
XG 500 gives more punchy sound than XP 500 when it comes to full volume.

Please do VS with JBL xtreame 3 and XG500 please! I know not in same category but the price matters alot and the jbl xtreame 3 just sounds like it would blow the XG500 out the water on some of your other review vids! And if that's the case I'd rather have the jbl lower price of matches sony! Sure alot would thank you if you saved them a few bucks!
Good news just spoke with jbl and they said they are working on a equalizer for the app
Too late for me. I tried their Xtreme 3 and returned it. For the price it sounds plain awful and there is no good way to adjust the sound. Either way, I think its massively overpriced. Looking at one of the Sony models now.

I think the XG500 is doing a much better performance than the XP500, cuz, I don't know if I'm the only one hearing it, but I think the XP500's bass is rolling off at some songs
It sounds as if the XP500 would be better for outdoor use while the XG500 seems to be better suited for indoor playback. I could be wrong, just my opinion.
@@kellyaustin7487 think the other way around, because the sony xg 500 scores very well in the bass area. The xp-500 struggles at low frequenzies and because of this i recommend the xg 500 for Outdoor using.
I've been testing JBL xtreame 3 to sonys XB501G the difference is crazy! I was giving jbl all the credit for the bass yeh there more bassy but can't handle it top end like the sony! The distortion kicking out the xtreame 3 is just ridiculous and there's non from sony! So sticking to my decision and going with the xb500 and leaving boombox 2 well alone! Can you believe the xg500 is the same price at the jbl xtreame 3 just now! Crazy

See sony can do it! The Xp 500 is actually amazing! Like the tweeters in the Xg500 aren't on or EQs not set to normal very low on the voice EQ strange since has front facing tweeters too!? The update came out November so did it fix it?

to me I think the winner in this test is the XP 500
Plugged in the XP500 is right around the same max volume as the Partybox 110 plugged in. Off their batteries the JBL is noticeably louder. The XG500 kind of sounds like it's playing with a towel laid over it. The upper range is warm and slightly muffled. Bad thing is you cannot stay in Mega Bass mode AND use the Sony app EQ to raise the upper mids and highs. So if you use a 3rd party EQ with the XG500 in Mega Bass Mode you can improve the clarity and detail in the upper range. The XP500 is much better in upper range clarity and detail compared to the XG500. I did a Partybox 110 vs XP500 outdoor comparison on my channel and both are good, but the JBL has the advantage.
regarding loudness , when plugged in , sp500 is near jbl 110 , or the difference is so much bigger?i am planning to use the sp 500 always plugged in if i buy it eventually.
The difference comes when you connect the xp500 to the wall. Its drastically improve maybe even by 30% louder with more bass.
Xg500 only improves a bit when connected to the wall.
You should have done the comparison with both connected to the wall. You'll see how the XP500 completely destroyes XG500.

I heard them both in-store the xp 500 sounds much better , it's a shame that it doesn't get as loud when unplugged, if it didn't have this problem I would buy it.

It does kinda stink that they limited the max volume off the battery. You can kind of work around that issue with a 3rd party EQ and increase the preamp level to raise the volume level.

Bass isn't bad, but could be improved in the future by adding a sub to a rechargeable unit.
That would take away the portability of the speaker
A better designed and uncovered bass port for the xp500 would improve the bass

Jbl's BT speakers are destroying the market to be fair. They just get crazy warmth and roundness in their tone. Most speakers compared to them just sound a bit cheap.

Xp500 is cleaner and brighter. The highs and instruments are much distinct and cleaner compared to the xg500.

So I own both the XG500 and XP500 and here's my honest review of both. Keep in mind, my job allows me to blast music at ungodly levels on certain shifts. I also live in a basement suite so I understand that it's nice to have a speaker that can fill a room with sound without pissing people off near you. With that being said...
The XG500 wins in nearly any circumstance. How Sony made it able to pump out so much bass, even at low volume, baffles me. If you're some kind of hardcore music person then yes, you're gonna pick apart this statement and disagree. To the average person, even a music junkie like me, this thing will quickly become your favorite speaker. The XP500 is bulky and significantly heavier. Of course if can pump out a ton of sound and at extremely high volume it still carries heavy bass. To the point a coworker of mine could hear the bass and sounds of the song from the parking lot (and my warehouse has thick walls). But what's the point? When are you going to come across that circumstance when you need that kind of volume? I'd say rarely. The XG500 can do about 80% of what the XP500 can do and I say that's perfect for almost any occasion. While I'm gaming sometimes I rest my feet on my XG500, turn on mega bass, and enjoy a nice massage. Even better put it on your lap if you wanna feel a lot of bass but at a low volume since it's really close to you. Every party I go to, where people sit and hang out, it changes throughout the night. You wanna be lugging that huge ass XP500 from place to place? Nope. That's where the handle and light weight of the XG500 comes in handy. Unless you're one of the people who just wanna buy tech to flex on everyone, just get the XG500 and you'll be happy

Assuming that 100% volume doesn't alter a speaker's frequency response and dynamics, which of course it does, the XG500 sounded surprisingly dreadful. Like sitting in a wet burlap sack with the ears covered in mud. I respect Sony and have a difficult time believing they'd release something this awful sounding. There's a problem somewhere.
