Srinath fought for the team like no one else.

priyank, Shrinath scored 60 against Walsh and Ambroze. 76 is His highest in test. We won some matches , Thanks to His batting. He used to score twenties and thirties many times. He scored 53, against top class SA attack. He could not be termed as an all rounder. But, a useful lower order batsman. He gave His best.

That was the main reason srinath.coudnt take many wickets coz batsmen wud take runs of other bowlers n the pressure was eased off.
Srinath,Kumble, were always a surprise package with the bat....still remember that 319 chase down in Bangladesh against Pakistan....highest run chase at that time...

Indians were down and out after Sachin got out..everyone expected india will loose now but in come the sixer of Srinath against Steve waugh bowling..what an innings it was from both Srinath n Kumble..India did won that match.
Successful pinch hitter, followed from Nayan Mongia. After Kapil, Srinath is the Legendary fast bowler for India with lot of dedications. His line & length is accurate and he stands the Example for Zaheer & others.
I would pick Srinath over any Indian Bowler any given day in a Test Match. The guy won us Tests Single Handedly in late 90s with his famous Fifers at home. Not an easy feat by any means. Had to bowl against Mighty Lanka and Pakistan sides of 90s and a Strongish Zimbabwe. Anyone who comes close to or better than Srinath at this point is probably Mohammad Shami. Bumrah hasnt played enough and hasnt played a single test at home. Zaheer was bit of a waste of a talent for just 311 Wickets in 90 Tests. He won us some memorable games with the ball but stands short when compared to Srinath and the quality of opposition that Srinath had to contend with. That Said like Kapil was the lone warrior of 70s and 80s, Srinath was the lone warrior of 90s. One subtle difference between Kapil and Srinath was that Srinath could make the ball talk even on dead pitches because of his great seam position and banging the seam 100% of times. One thing that changed between 80s and 90s was the quality of tailenders. Teams like SAF had an un-ending tail in 90s
No matchfixing by his colleagues, better catching by teammates and slightly economical bowling partner...would have resulted Srinath taking at least 100 more wickets
Fannie was one heck of a bowler... Actual a better odi bowler than in tests...variations, steep bounce and meticulous line... Having said that he had a decent record in tests as well
Yuva Rajan then hypothetically few would make 50 from current squad. Can’t expect 200 like scoring on batting friendly pitches. With due respect don’t compare modern cricket with traditional 90s cricket. That time pitch was not as supportive as now for batsmen. You can take a 30 averaged batsmen and compare with current 40+ averages batsmen. That how is difficult to score during those periods.
Add to it same pitches and same umpires and rules as '90s and SA will crush current Indian team 7-0 ever after. I always have goosebumps just by recalling the glory of 1990s cricket legends and the unimaginably incredible cricketing intensity in '90s. I'm of course Indian but '90s players are GODS so nowadays players will always be at losing end. Sad but true.
Javagal Srinath was a good lower order batsman. He was good on bouncy tracks. He scored a fighting knock of 60 plus against the deadly attack of West Indies in the 2nd innings along with Sachin (85), Anil Kumble (42) in 1994..... Srinath also took 5 wickets & India won the Test match and Srinath was the Man of the Match for his alround performance. He also scored 76 runs on a windy, bouncy track of Hamilton. Because of Srinath's gritty knock, Rahul Dravid smashed 190 runs as Srinath negotiated the pace & bounce, stayed in the middle by scoring 76...!! Srinath & Anil Kumble were far better than Nayan Mongia. Anil Kumble too has supported many batsmen by staying in the middle without giving away his wicket. Who can forget Anil Kumble's gritty, fighting knock of 88 against the dangerous South African bowling lineup??
