It’s a good video. I am a pulmonary critical care fellow. I had a rough ride but so far so good. One thing I wanted to mention is the variation in the salaries of the top specialities is not much in USA when compared to some of the other specialities like critical care or cardiology. There are cardiologist who at earning more than a million and then there are some who earn only 250-300K unlike plastic surgeons where all of them make more than 500K.

And If you've done your residency with the H1B Visa then Voilà my friend , 'coz now you can easily avail your Green Card in US with the help of the combination of your H1B Visa and Medical Licensing Board Certificate without doing any kind of Waiver Jobs & practice however you want , whether it's Institutional practice or Private Practice.

Unfortunately though this video is made with good intent, it is misleading on a lot of the details. Here are a few examples: 1. You are confusing property tax and sales tax with Federal, State and Locality income taxes; 2. Average housing cost in NYC near any of the major residency institutions is well over $2200, not $1000. also housing costs in most cities will run you around $1200 - $1500, not the $500 you are fortunate to pay in Hershey; 3, No resident in NYC is going to afford owing a car unless you are being helped by your family; 4. Retreats are not going to be fun and relaxing activities. Please be careful of t he expectation you are setting for medical students planning on coming to the US for a residency program. I also think your video is too specially targeted to foreign medical graduates looking to come to the US - medical students from the US would not necessarily agree with your assessments. Most US residents on average are into their late 20s/early 30s and are also challenged with providing for a spouse and/or children. The resident salary does not go very far in this scenario and hence why a lot of them have huge loans by the time they begin their medical practice.

I can say if you want to do fellowship it's prob best to go to a university program or at least ties to one... that is not to say if you go to community program that you can't do fellowship, but going to a university program allows you inside access to thier fellowship tracts + better research ops. Hi, in America, the days of any doctor starting a fresh practice are gone. All practices now are group owned or owned by large hospital corporations. One could open up their own hospital here if they have hundreds of millions to spend. It is not like India where the process is less regulated and people have more freedom regarding billing, equipment, staff accreditation, etc.
