Shot Dallas, not being a hater but you guys need to do more songs like this, straight up it's what our generation needs to hear, me being a 17 year old living in Australia raised in Manurewa until about 9 months ago, I'm earning top of the class marks because listening to words like this and imagining what my ancestors went through and thinking back to what I was seeing around me, dropout rate raising, unemployment rate raising, crime and alchoholic rate raising, everything negative I chose to go down a different path, but unforutnately many Fobs my age haven't woken up to that yet, your music does affect this generation a lot, much love uce! 267.
For real tho. I stumbled across Dallas from Freddie gibbs. A lot of great real "woke" shit. Got me through some ruff times. Seems like he was my twin. Came in at the right place right time. That real shit
Toutoko! If we as a people want to make steps towards healing as a whole, feeling sorry for yourself will only drag you further down. It was no accident that our ancestors chose to come to this country. Struggles and challenges are a way of life. We all duel with them at different degrees, lest we succum to our own demons. Hearing this music, makes me proud to be a nzer, but at the same time it disappoints me that there are still struggles for maori and pasifika. I can't wait to see the day when no matter colour, post code or the way someone dresses, doesn't make someone decide whether or not to cross the street. Keep up the music guys and get your message out there.
"If your parents come here from an Island in the hope of a better life for the child and an education But they aint got time to keep an eye on them they working everyday They will never see retirement School don't see true to deal with this environment." Only those who are humble would outline the underlying issues through music and through success of hard work. Well done guys! Such an inspirational song for our youth. Shot.
Awesome clip to go with an awesome song, no matter what kind of bullshit people do to make the south look bad, its songs like this and artist's like David Dallas, Sid Diamond and Mareko really makes me proud to be from the SOUTH...
The layers of NZ hip hop going on here. Cut it out. Representing the south side reflecting on a common narritive throughout aotearoa. So good much love.

I moved to Oz in 79. Still recognise parts of Otahuhu, Papatoetoe, Otara and Glen Innes. Grew up in Mangere East after we moved up from Hornby in ChCh at the age of 7 to Buckland Road before they joined Bader Dr to the other end of it. Then Mangere went to shit. Only coming good now after all these years. Also read the sequel to "Once Were Warriors", where they had some photo scenes. One was Wood Wagon in the Otahuhu Railway Workshops where I did my apprenticeship. Wow, the memories. Would never go back there again though. Memories can be hard too.

this is an awesome track, we have been in Aussie for a while but both my wife (Niuean/Palangi) and me ( afakasi Samoan, Maoli/Palangi) both grew up in Otahuhu (I also lived Mangere East for a bit). Played for the Otahuhu Leopards and hung at that bus stop daily. I watched that depot change over the years. Back when my parents came
From the islands
With a Bible and a pair of J's (yeah Jandals)
Trying to set a better way to get our educa-
Tions that we found street smarts and a free pass to the green pastures
Around these parts we were blessed with the big heart
That can see past all the eat asses
Aw, what you thought I was gonna talk
All about walking with gangs where the drugs be
How about I touch on how
David Lange ran the country, right where the thugs be
John Walker might run at the tops, long distance
Scott Dixon on the track now
Rather a hand up than a hand down
All my people stand down
When I'm back out the Southside
Black white with the brown pride
Even yellows part of the picture
The boil ups a perfect mixture
Hear about the southside
And we Rep this shit til the death
Walk with my head held high to the sky
My T-shirt sez Southside til I die
The boy from the Southside
The bodies outlined with an aura
You can see it so clearly
I mean it looks like a shiftnal dairy
Or a Scorpians home crowd cheering
Or a Otahuhu mums eyes tearing
