It reminds me of all the same harmful or just unnecessary equipment in the aquarium hobby. The amount of random crap I kept researching when I first started was crazy
Yeah the carpet killed my leopard geckos. No matter how much I cleaned it there was just so much bacteria and it hurt there toes. My mom wouldn’t listen to me to not use it. They both passed ☹️
Tbh as a invert keeper these substrate products in my opinion work better with scorpions instead of reptiles, because of impaction I would still mix the sand with coconut fiber and wood chips just to make sure no impaction can happen to the inverts.
Great video, my man! This all seems pretty logical (especially if people have seen all your other videos), but it is always worth repeating, so people can give the best care to the animals :D Keep up the good work, Chief :D
So I have a heat rock and crushed walnut shell sand. I don’t know if I should switch because he doesn’t eat his sand and enjoys digging in it. He loves to use his heat rock once a week. And I don’t know if his heat is enough. What should I do. I also give him a normal diet with dried mealworms as treats a lot.
Hey I’m getting a baby beardie soon and I’m wondering if you could make a vid on what all you would need for it but a PetSmart addition, I’m getting 120 gallon tank off of Amazon so I need everything else
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse what about the heated mat? I have the heated mat on the left side and his water and food on the right. Also, I’m planning to get a uvb light soon will he be okay with the start kit lighting until I get the better uvb lighting??
Hi 👋🏽 love your channel I’ve been watching for past two weeks. Yesterday I adopted a 2 year old gecko who has faded carpet I wanted to wait two weeks before touching. Will I stress her out if I go and change things around now instead of waiting. She is used to human contact but just not mine. Any advise would help.
I used to use reptile carpet for a bit with my baby leopard gecko and he didn’t get tooth or nails stuck luckily, it was just annoying to clean. Now he lives in a bioactive tank. We can learn from mistakes.
Some rocks are ok cause they don’t get as hot as others. I would just for safety concerns but you could set a thermostat underneath it to make sure it doesn’t get crazy hot
Zoo med tubes are great. You can get Arcadia tubes on Pangea reptile if you are in the states for $21 a tube then get the t5 fixture on the website for $35.
Is it safe to have very dim fairy lights on in my room that are kind of a purpleish blue color at night? I overall feel the need to have them on at night and when I get my beardie I don’t want to stress him or her out, so I just wanna prepare myself mentally if I’m gonna have to get rid of them
Man I wish I could come to this guys terrarium room I want to make a custom cage for my bearded dragon baby. I want to see exactly how set up his cages.
Am I a bad BD owner if I use a green reptile Carpet instead of dirt, sand, or any other alternative because it’s too messy? I (14) own one BD who’s roughly around a year old (I got him last year on the way home from vacation in Tennessee at a pet store, and when he was a baby.) He lives in a 40 gallon reptile tank, on my floor. He has a big water container, he has a bag of mixed dead crickets, worms, and other bugs, I occasionally feed him lettuce, and live crickets so he can retain his hunting skills, and also because ive heard it’s healthy for him. I also will occasionally put powdered calcium and vitamins on his food. He also has a red heart lamp (roughly around 100 watt I think) and a normal light. In his cage is little fake plants, a small and large log, and a little hammock (I do plan on getting him more stuff and upgrading the cage six when he gets older.) He is generally healthy and a happy little BD, he gets to run around my room whenever my cats arnt in the room. And for as long as I’ve had him, I’ve haven’t seen nor had any problems, just the fact that he likes to be out on my bed a lot to explore because of boredom, but my mom won’t let me get another BD as a possibly playmate, but I’m also scared that they would hate each other, as I’m not too sure as if male BDs get along with other BDs. I also want to mention this is the very first time owning any reptile, and yes I do get help from my mom buying the food, things for the cage, stuff like that, but I entirely clean, feed, and take care of him. Now to my point, I’m in 9th grade, and I’m getting busy, but I don’t plan on getting rid of my BD, but I found out that any type of reptile carpet is very dangerous and could potentially harm him, but like I’ve said, no problems so far, but I find other stuff like dirt, sand, and other alternatives to be too messy, as I’m 4’9 and generally pretty weak, and I have a hard time cleaning his cage as it is. I also do sports year round, so most of my week either than Sunday is taken up from sports, and I just don’t have enough time in the day to clean up all of that. If you could give me a safer and better option that’s easier and doesn’t need cleaned everyday that’d be perfect! I’d also like some intell if I’m a bad BD owner for using a green reptile carpet! Much love- TheInternetWeirdo
1:ur not necessarily a bad owner for that especially if you haven't had problems. But reptile carpet holds a lot of bacteria so I would switch to natural substrate. I'm not sure what u mean by messy, but if it's mixing it you just get a few buckets and mix it, it's pretty easy. 2: since he's older then six months and still growing/done, I would switch him to a 120 gallon. 3: if he 100 percent DOES drink water from the water dish, then keep it in. If not remove it as it raises humidity and can cause respiratory infections sometimes. Don't feed dead crickets, stick to only live ones. Only feed lettuce on rare occasions as it caused calcium reduction. 3: by red heat lamp I'm assuming it's a infrared which isn't good. And a 100 watt in a 40 gallon is a little much unless you live I'm colder climates. 4: don't get him a playmate in the sense they're in the same enclosure. If not and you just have 2 separate tanks and they are out and interacting, just monitor them. That's all, hope this helps.
Honestly it’s whichever you prefer. I like Arcadia soley because you can hook multiples together and only use on outlet. But they are very similar otherwise
The crushed walnut shells are used for cat little. It's great for odor. But my cat walks on it like it's nasty, though. I have no idea why it crossed the line to reptile substrate
It reminds me of all the same harmful or just unnecessary equipment in the aquarium hobby. The amount of random crap I kept researching when I first started was crazy
I know exactly what you mean. Just marketed to make money
I think that reptile owners like me need more videos like this to make sure that our reptiles are safe, healthy and happy. Thank you for making this!

Yes put the uvb lights on the timer as well. All lights off at nighttime

Nope won’t stress her out go ahead and change it. You can hand feed her food and that will help her get used to you
So insightful! Thank you!
No problem

What about the 3 n1 mercury bulbs? Are they any good for beardies?
For leopard geckos what would you recommend sand or some sort of soil
A soil for sure. They do live to burrow and it’s good to have something they can dig in and it holds it’s form

I'm trying to convince my mom to get dirt for my leopard geckos instead of a carpet but she won't listen to me.
Keep at it! Much better for them and they love it!

You have to be very careful a lot of wild grass in America is toxic to bearded dragons.
