Good evening folks and welcome back for this weeks wee shopping video I hope I find you well...and if you're in the UK, enjoying the glorious weather we're having x
Gyros are pronounced yeer-ohz and are Greek in origin. Donar kabobs are from Turkey. The main difference is the sauces they typically use, but both have meat from a vertically rotating stack that is shaved as it turns and cooks.
Surprises me that everything still seems to be wrapped in pastic in the UK? Even the cucumber 😳. Aldi in Germany has been offering unpacked fruit and vegetables for quite some time now.
Lovely haul as always. I need to get some more peppers oscar has asked for them this evening luckily I had one in the fridge but will get more he likes them raw on the side sometimes but hasn't had them for ages. Usually lunchtime he would ask for some. Love Iceland for the frozen goods but lately they have become very expensive for certain things so the price of that butter doesn't surprise me x
Mounds of goodness for a reasonable price ! Just sent the other half with my list, and now want to re-write it lol. Oh well, more great ideas for next including the oatcakes recipe which was a hit. Edit: Just gone 32 (35 in the sun) here in NC… hope your lovely weather isn’t that lovely :^)
I loved Iceland, when I lived in Glasgow. I basically lived out of that place when I was single. Never been to a lidl or Aldi , would like to wander around those next time we're back in Scotland. Great video as usual Cheryl, take care .
Lovely. I cannot believe the price differences between the UK and the US. Here in the US, we could never purchase that many groceries for such a wonderfully low price!
We're cooking now where I live, about 32C these last few weeks, lol. The strawberries look really good. My boyfriend is making strawberry wine, the bowl he used to cut them up in smelled so good.
Country life is £4.10 in our local store in Liverpool also. I have not seen it that expensive anywhere else, I think that Iceland has become very expensive in recent months Teresa
Agreed Teresa! It's normally about £3.50 (normal price) in most of the major supermarkets...but you can often find it on 'offer' .£4.10 is very steep 😐 I didn't notice until I was checking the receipt x
The Beyond Beef burgers are unbeatable, they also do mince which is a nice change, although it’s not cheap. Aldi’s frozen plant burgers are quite nice for a wee change, and they’re very reasonably priced.
Thank you so much....I'll need to remember and have a look for the Aldi plant ones the Beyond Beef burger was SO good!!! It's crazy what they can do nowadays 😱
In these inflationary times I have found it interesting to compare grocery prices where you live to here on Vancouver Island, Canada. Because we are off the west coast of Canada and our supplies come in by ferry, and airplane we expect to pay more than mainland Canada. Many things you purchase are similar in price to here, some not, or not available here. One big difference I find between your shopping basket and ours is all the pre-packaged, pre-made things that you can get. We don't have near as many choices. Most of our food is fresh. However having said that I haven't checked the freezer section lately and will do that next time I am in the grocery store.
Lovely shopping haul in aldi they have a double pack of bacon it's essential range and it's lovely bacon a bit thicker than the normal cut it doesn't shrink when cooked I use my airfryer grill to cook it we don't eat a lot of bacon so I used some for a fry up and then portioned it up into 4 slices in each lack think I froze about 4 bags the is only me and my son love fran xxx
I totally agree with you re Aldi. I also shopped at Iceland this week. I've found that Iceland is sometimes more expensive than the other supermarkets,so I don't go there very often but this week I got lamb chops, 800g for £8.50 which was cheaper than the other supermarkets, they're a little bit fatty but them lamb is usually a bit fatty. I love Icelands chicken breast pakora strips, they're really good. Great haul this week Cheryl, thank you for sharing xxx
I went to an Aldi a few weeks ago for the first time when visiting relatives in another town as there isn't one where I live. When I go to visit my son I go to Trader Joe's and I like it.
Hi Cheryl, lovely to hear your cheery voice on this lovely sunny Saturday.😊☀️ Another great shopping haul, plenty of healthy options in this bag!🥗 I find that you have to be careful price wise with Iceland on certain items, butters, cheese & dairy goods tend to be dearer than other supermarkets. If you’re watching your weight I find some of those slimming world meals are delicious, a wee bit pricy but nice for a treat, I’d highly recommend the Korean-style beef noodles😋, Chicken tikka rogan Josh, Paella etc - an added bonus, they all come with cut out recipe cards to recreate at home. This could be a new suggestion for your videos for all us porkers out there, who’ve gained a bit of blubber over the winter😉 - low calorie meals for the summer months.🤔 Take care & have a great weekend lovely lady x👩🏻🍳💕💞🩷
Thank you so much for all the recommendations David! I like the sound of the Korean noodles 😋 I'll pick those up next time! Have a fab rest of your weekend my friend 🤩
I might be unpopular but I try to stick to one shop, and if they don't have something make myself choose an alternative - this is also part of me doing weight restoration though and trying to be okay with all foods. On another note : could you make stovies with sweet potato - I mean it might not be called stovies anymore, but would it go ? I might have to try with a regular baked potato on stand by. 🤣
Hi Cheryl, I just can’t get over how cheap your food is over there and so beautifully packaged and it sure looks like good quality. Is everything so low because wages are low. I mean I’m not asking you what you make an hour but what is the national average ? Do you have a regular minimum wage over there like we do here in United States? Or what is the average medium income in your country? Ask for Aldi’s I agree they don’t have everything to complete your grocery list. Cheers! Brian …Florida
Yip that isn't a mistake iam afraid...in a recent survey not sure who done the survey but Iceland out of all small & large supermarkets their prices have risen the most..
I was ordering Country Life spreadable and stopped when I realised it had hit £4.20 I switched to I can't believe it's not butter, and you've gotta watch Iceland with things like biscuits they keep swapping brands around a few months back there was a shortage of Custard Creams and Bourbon biscuits reason, the factory had a flood, now Iceland gave no explanation I had to Google it and now I'm in Slough they've dropped Crawfords replaced them with Hills not as good and the Bourbons aren't fingers there exactly the same shape as the Custard Creams
Country Life £4.10 ... Aldi Beautifully Buttery £0.99 (identical tubs, deliciously buttery!) What size tub is Country Life? The Aldi is 500g, and your Country Life looks the same. That's a whopping saving of £3.11! ... I'll be able to afford an ACTUAL "Country Life" at that sort of saving! 👍🤣
That haul couldav been alot cheaper had you not bought branded names especially from aldi, you could have got butter, coleslaw, toilet roll etc alot cheaper
I’m not a brand person myself, but I must admit, branded toilet roll is so much nicer than the cheap stuff, and me and so many others I know will only eat coleslaw if it’s the ‘luxury’ brands as we find the basic tastes like PVA glue! I do however buy cheap lidl brand butter, but understand how some prefer lurpak/country life etc.

These prices are shockingly high from Iceland
Surprises me that everything still seems to be wrapped in pastic in the UK? Even the cucumber 😳. Aldi in Germany has been offering unpacked fruit and vegetables for quite some time now.

No mushrooms......oooh no.......lol. Poor wee lonely scones on the shelf. And they are carb and calorie wise too.
Not this week Gary! Hope you're well! 🤩
Watching from Delaware on the eastern shore of the USA.
Hi Betty!

How I wish they had those triffles in supermarkets here in the U.S. they look yummy!
They are really easy to make if you don't have them where you are 🤩 I have quite a few recipes for trifle on the channel x
@@WhatsForTea thanks. I've used your Xmas one before, totally delicious 😋 😍
Lovely. I cannot believe the price differences between the UK and the US. Here in the US, we could never purchase that many groceries for such a wonderfully low price!
This is so true!
Poeple say that Amy....such a shame 😵 x
Yeah that would have been about $200 in the states.
So true
Incomes are a lot higher over there.
Looks like your going to have some lovely meals 😊
Great shop Cheryl Iceland has shot there prices sky high so that bitter was not a mistake take care xx👍👍🏴☀️
The Fairy capsules were a great price, must be on offer xx

We really are jealous how delicious and fresh not to mention the prices are there...here in Canada its brutal! 😮
Pita bread is a nice base for homemade pizzas.
Ooh great idea! 🙂

You're very welcome Dee! Oh we haven't had lamb chops in such a LONG time...I'll need to add that to the list 😍
Scotland is so beautiful ❤️
I'm always shocked at the inexpensive cost of paracetamol and ibuprophen - In Canada those off-the-shelf drugs could have cost at least 6-7 gbp.
Oh wowzers! 😶
Omg I can't believe that..
Try aldi Italian style Roma ham! - It's lovely!
Thanks Mark...I'll look out for it! 🤩

Oh I'd love to go to a Trader Joes Gail! We're away to America next year and it will be on my hit list 😁

Almost nothing in this bag was healthy...are you kidding?

My biggest miss is wasting too much stuff… must do less, more often…. Saved a fortune 👍
Our iceland up here is expensive for non frozen stuff. Cornershop prices

Oh I hadn't thought of making it with sweet potatoes...certainly worth a try Carol ☺
Thanks for sharing 👍 awesome 👌 👏 😀
Here in australia dairy products /butter has gone through the roof in pricing.
When I read the title, I thought you visited the country of Iceland!
😆 Maybe one day Sylvia!
It’s an amazing country, God hasn’t finished it yet*, but your shopping haul would be VASTLY more expensive!
* paraphrasing Jeremy Clarkson.
I always enjoy. xxx

Please kindly continue posting your much appreciated videos
Thank you so much Julia! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and continued support 😘
