It's always great to check out your videos Eric, especially when it starts off with 'let's try this and see what happens'!

I like the winch we cut 8 trees yesterday had to hook the tractor to them with a long rope and 2 log chains.

I’ve been there. We are losing lots of ash trees here and they get tangled almost every time. This one missiled into my friends driveway.

Nice to see your smiling face (still smiling), Eric. And adorable guard dog looks menacing - woof, puppers! 💕

When cutting leaners cut a notch on the compression side .. top.. then cut from under it the rest of the way and it will drop down. Only to a certain angle and of course get out of the way of widowmakers.... then pull it from the top when it gets to s certain angle if needed.

Looks like an ash tree, I am guessing another victim of the emerald ash borer, Ash becomes quite brittle when the trees die.
Glad to see you had safety gear and were FAR away when pulling on the rope. That rope puller is nice I can defiantly use one of those!

Down here in the South we would have just had the rope to the butt-end of the trunk into the trailer hitch on the truck and just pulled it out butt first.

“Don’t try this at home” indeed!
You were wise to keep well away from the tree.
The physics and geometry can sometimes work against you, and unanticipated kickback isn’t unusual

You should have tied the rope to the bottom of the tree after you made the first cut, tied the other end to your truck trailer hitch and yanked the lower end towards the truck and dropped the tree away from you.

Why bother with the puller at all. Looks like a good truck there? And if the rope was attached to just above the cut, you could keep pulling,to lay that trunk flat.?🤔

I’ve never seen a rope calf puller. Interesting.

Much better than the stranded cable pullers.

Classic ash mid-stem failure. Never pull a hanger directly back toward where you're standing. Use an offset block and anchor your Maasdam away from the line of fall and be careful of shock load on your gear when that high hinge breaks.
