I mean it doesn't need saving, it already sold 3 million copies and its a single player title, but to earn back the good faith of the community the expansion has to basically be a new game, like iceborne levels not just add bitterblack style dungeon

We can always hope it's going to be as insane as elden ring or even dark arisen was. They "can" save the game with it, the real issue is "will capcom give the devs the time and budget to do so, or will they want a quick cash before milking an other franchise again" ^^"

It seems like CAPCOM learned very little from their original Dragon's Dogma release. For all of the years and supposed planning and passion, we got a sequel that felt even more rushed, unfinished, unoptimized, uninspired and unsupported. More classes, dlc (or even a road map!), mods (Capcom will never allow that... even though I'm still playing Skyrim because of mods!) ... anything would have benefited DDII. Being that Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is my favorite game, the whole DDII release was heartbreaking. I went back to DD1 and am looking at the DDO revival.

Dragon's Dogma 2 was rushed? Probably not. They had all the time from 2016 to make this game. Big mistakes, errors of great magnitudes yeah they sure did. The fashion sucks, DD1 fashions are way better. And worse of all, they didn't have token "Nihon-jin classes" or even an outfit set. Capcom is a Japanese company and cannot fulfill the fantasy of a Japanese man? Their main customer? The fantasy of a Japanese man is to Be A Japanese man! Haha yeah! What you guys think a fantasy of Nihon-jin wanna be? Ie, hey just make one or two vocations as Shinobi, Ninja, or Kunoichi. And have all the "super traditional" outfit for em. You got the best character creator since Skyrim modded and Black Desert. And its like super easy to make a 30s Japanese woman, wink wink thats my Arisen... But she's can't be and can't wear what Mai Shiranui types are wearing. Make a perfect 30s Japanese woman and have her run naked, thats not really fun you know... I'm a Nihon-jin myself 30s dude and my sister is 30s Nihon-jin woman... If only they made purposely Japanese classes, ie just change the Thief to be a Shinobi. Or add two more vocations, Shinobi and Samurai. Okay best, at least way more people will play... At the state DD2 is with their very bad fashions, I loved my "woman" but I can't play her... Ahah... Dead or Alive 6 and Xtreme Venus Vacation way more fun yeah! Been playing every night before sleep, for good dreams yeah...

@@zaskiaalsakila7248 Dragon's Dogma II doesn't feel like a game that's been developed since 2016. It is lacking in many areas. My belief is it was underfunded, rushed, and pushed out the door with only a "new coat of paint." Capcom threw money at Monster Hunter, but DD they dumped a soft reboot and sat back to see how it sold. IMHO they still don't trust -- or even like -- Dragon's Dogma. My guess is this has something to do with the initial "troubled" development. Is DD2 a complete failure? No, but other than character creation and graphics, it's not IMO a better game than Dragon's Dogma, which we already know was released "unfinished."

@@kaipacifica1289Yeah an open world Rpg, made by a Japanese company, ie Capcom. But the Japanese brother and sister is deleted, or worst forgotten. And every outfit and class looks like they come from Assassins Creed Mirage, Origins, and Immortals Fenyx or Diablo... All above games not played by Japanese gamers btw... We are not fans of Ubisoft or Blizzard. But DD2 has that "direction" of outfit and class design. Bad bad choices, big mistake bro! Like I said, I made the most beautiful 30s Japanese woman but she got no "clothes" to wear. And walking around naked is seriously not fun at all. Seriously the DD2 creator seems very easy to make a Japanese female. Less than 10mins you can make Mai Shiranui types in the game. I think they poured all their money and time in making the creator but they forgot about outfits and vocations... I play Naraka Bladepoint way better to get my Japanese woman "kick"... The Yoto hime looks way more perfect.

This game sucks, Dark Arisen is better...My main 2 issues (there's tons more) were the lack of a secondary weapon this alone killed the game for me even more so than the lack of enemy variety...they got lazy and wanted a BIGGER world but it's empty just copy/pasted...all they had to do was expand on Dark Arisen...Dragons dogma the original released game is quite good it's definitely better than DD2 but Dark Arisen is what made the game a cult...Dungeon crawler with excellent combat, cool vocations and a nice variety of different enemies (could of still used some more) ...But no in DD2 they stripped away your 2nd weapon and you have less skills LoL why would they think this would be a good idea?...Not to mention in DDDA the secondary weapon for each class had their own skills (yeah some were universal for that weapon) so it made every vocation that much more unique...This game did too much but in a lazy way and in the wrong areas that needed improvement from the 1st game...I already said this before all they needed was to have everything from Dark Arisen with ADDED stuff weapons/skills/vocations/enemies/dungeons and everyone would of been happy (plus take away that dash drain outside of combat) THAT'S ALL THEY NEEDED TO DO.

    In my opinion:
First: they messed up one of the only flashy and at the same time casual magic systems out there… that is unforgivable for most magic nutcases 😅 both in usability dictated by combat where certain spells work objectively better in aiming etc. and in reducing the variety of spells to a minimum. With that they took out the fun experimentation that kept the old magic system fun, as no spell really felt useless and had its uses and its own flashiness.
Secondly while in absolute not really there, but: all classes feel limited in comparison to the first game.
The reduction from 6 to 4 possible skills at a time is just too boring to quickly.
And then there is that pesky dragon rot… while a fun concept at first.. after a while it just turns into a chore to cure it repeatedly if unlucky.
Forth: while enemy variety is important, their mixing in encounters is important too.. the enemies in dd2 feel randomly placed without rhyme or reason, especially in late game areas. That breaks immersion real quick really early on.
5th: the utter disappointment in the class variety may have been avoided if they either said they ditched the colour coding entirely and or on the other hand made new classes from either scratch or dd online. The community practically had made it their slogan at the time of announcement that more classes are needed in a sequel.
6th: the microtranactions were the final nail in the coffin after the previous 5 points. If the 5 weren’t there then the ppl might have overlooked it as they are not really needed but….
With all discussed problems the micros were the final insult ppl weren’t ready to take anymore
Edit: corrected some spelling 😅English isn’t my first language, sry

Because the game is not a sequel, rather a reboot that does not improve upon the first game systems.
The most notorious to me was the story and characters, since those were the elements that were emphasized the most in the marketing campaign of the game, they even said that the characters had a dynamic behavior system that would change their attitude towards the player depending of their actions and that the romance was completely overhauled due to that.
And not only are the characters completely shallow and forgettable, but the romance system is exactly the same as the first game.
I also don't see what was the point of the Beastren to begin with, they implied that the story would have a major subplot regarding the tense relationship between them and the humans, aslo that their religious artifact, the Lambent Flame, was a major plot point. And the fact is that once you reached the Beastren Kingdom you're mere two hours away from finishing the game, there's no _political tension_ plot in any substantial manner and said Flame has no story relevance at all.
It's so bad the most important character from the Beastren kingdom is not their empress that's in the cover of the game (You can beat the game without having to talk to her once) but a guy named Phaseus how's basically a (lamer) Elysion clone from the first game.
The vocation restructuring/rebalancing was also a major issue, they for some reason decided to keep the same nomenclature for vocations: base, advanced, hybrid. But two of the base clases don't have advanced vocations (Thief and Archer) and Hybrid straight up doesn't make sense since Trickster is labeled as one but has no base vocations.
Also one of the reasons they re-balanced the vocations was because they felt that the Strider vocations from the first game, mainly the base one and Magick Archer, were way too strong which was why they split it into Archer and Thief and limited the vocations to only one weapon. But this backfired completely since despite this both the Thief (The nerfed base Strider) and Magick Archer are still the most busted vocations.

And I expect next year's noise fest will be about how Wilds is 30 fps on consoles as well. Because there's no way that game will add a massive seamless area with the highest number of models ever, looking the way it does, and hit anything higher than 30 fps on a PS5.

I'm a lover of RPGs and DD2 was my first experience with the DD franchise. It was on sale last week, so I bought it and tried it. After about 10 hours of playing it, I uninstalled it. When it comes to games I have intention on playing, I go into them as blind as I possibly can and that was the case of this game. I had heard about the MTX and performance issues at launch, and the lack of creating a new game but nothing beyond that. For what it's worth I didn't have any issues with any of those critiques in my playtime other than the late pop-in of NPCs in the towns/cities, but that didn't bother me. The character creator was superb. I really found the environments I ventured through eye pleasing and thought the lighting, particularly at night, was quite immersive. Everything else I experienced in the game was like British food - bland and flavorless.
From roughly my 10 hours playing, it seemed the intent of the game was to make the pawn system a major pillar of the game. I found the pawns more annoying than anything. After about two hours in, I really got sick of them. They were way too chatty. Had they had any flavor/character to them, I wouldn't have minded the chattiness. I always enjoyed the banter of companions in your party in RPGs. But those companions in other games have character and personalities. The pawnss in DD2 were generic and repetitive. That got old quick for me. I had similar experiences with the quest NPCs in DD2. They all had a very generic personality to them. It's hard to articulate, but it was like they just copy and pasted one personality among all NPCs and just put different skins on them. I didn't find the combat particularly engaging either. If I was fighting the smaller enemies like goblins, harpies, and wolves and such, the pawns sort of mopped them up with ease. If I fought a bigger enemy like a cyclops, it just became this babysitting affair of the pawns dying over and over. Since the pawn system seemed to be a major pillar of the games core mechanics, perhaps I had too high of expectations regarding them. Its been awhile since I played DA: Inquisition so maybe I'm romanticizing a bit, but I didn't find the pawns any better in regards to AI behavior during combat than DA:I companions.
After about 10 hours, as I was taking a break from the game to grab some food, I asked myself "When was the last time I had fun with the game?" And the answer was the character creator. It's not a bad game per se, but it wasn't fun for me. I don't need to have a game to blow my socks off. I just want to have a little fun and I realized I wasn't having any, so I uninstalled. Maybe I'll give it another shot down the road. But I don't see how any patch or DLC can really change the issues I personally had with the game. This is probably just a game, and therefore franchise, that wasn't meant for me.

The best way I can describe as to why it dropped off so fast is that they were so busy trying to create a great game for Dragon's Dogma fans, that they forgot to create a Dragon's Dogma game. There were so many aspects of the original that made it unique from other games at the time, the monster climbing, the leveling system that made you really think about what kind of build you wanted, and of course the monsters and the dragon himself. To focus on Grigori, in the original he was built up throughout the entire game as this unstoppable force of nature that everything fears, while at the same time almost being a guide to the player, encouraging you to face your destiny and take up arms to fight. You only see him a couple of times, mainly at the start of the game, and at the great wall just before you fight him, but all the characters constantly speak of him and by the time you fight him, it almost feels more like fighting a rival than an actual enemy. And the fight is immaculate in my opinion. Until you knock him to the ground with the power of your heart within his chest, it really feels like a hopeless battle, and when you do go hands on with him, he's fast, strong, casts some of the strongest magic, and is an absolute tank who's weak spot is hard to reach for any vocation that doesn't have ranged options. Compare that to the second game, where you fight him for about 20 seconds once, then no one mentions him again until the end of the game where the fight is nowhere near as impactful as in the first game. It took away so much of the arisen's purpose, anyone can be a king or queen, but only the arisen can save the world from the dragon, and they chose to focus on the less interesting plot.
In terms of the monsters and the post game, you have a limited time of post game in the sequel, and while the unmoored boss fights are the best in the game and they do lead up to something big, that big impactful end takes place almost completely in a cutscene. In the original, you could explore the everfall and the new gransys as much as you wanted, and everywhere you went there were new and stronger enemies to fight, way more powerful gear, and a mystery of just what the hell is going on.
The monsters also have a distinct lack in variety, sure minotaurs, gorgons and dullahans are great editions and their fights are fun, but the fact that I legitimately can't remember if there are any other new boss monsters besides the talos (which is more of a world event than an actual boss) and the unmoored bosses speaks volumes. You still have ogres, cyclops, golems, griffins, drakes (i count the lesser dragon and sick dragon as a drake cause their fights aren't distinct enough), wrights and chimeras, but that's it. Then you look at the original and remember wyrms, wyverns, cockatrices, steel golems, evil eyes, liches, hydras, arch hydras, the seneschal and the ur dragon, and you realize that they took out so many awesome bosses gave us back so little in comparison.
I personally think a remake would've been better than a sequel, at least for now. It would've given the fans something to tide them over, and help introduce new fans to the original formula, while capcom finished making an actual sequel with all the elements of the original along with whatever new ones they wanted to add. But as DD2 stands right now, it's pretty much just a good action RPG, rather than a sequel

The game was designed to fail, with the way it lacked skills and availability of accessibility to truly be customized to the player. The reasons keep going but for me that was a major nail in the coffin along with some of your stated comments. There is also progression blockers that also forces it to be played a certain way as well, the enemy density is definitely a huge issue as well.
I tried going back to play with a new save file but never made it to the first encampment after taking a few months away from it. All it did was to remind me of how bad it truly was even though the potential was there along with the high hopes originally.

I tried to work with DD2. I was even at the end game before I stopped playing because of a DLC for total war warhammer 3 that came out, and took up all of my gaming time afterwards. Outside of visuals & some aspects of combat the game lacked in so much. The story was meh, the depth of combat from the original was removed & dumbed down and the lack of rewards for exploration really didn't sit well with me. This isn't even including performance issues. I paid $80 for an unfinished mess that was polished up to look pretty, but underneath the polish it was still a mess. The last thing I want to do is play DD2. Even though I'm so close to finishing the game. Right now I'm one of those skeptical people that may not even bother buying the DLC if it ever comes out. Capcom would have to do a lot to get me to return. Which sucks since I enjoyed DD1 so much.

As long Capcom have MH, this is just a nothingburger for them. This game was made to test their engine for MHW, and you can see the MH fanbase is the one capcom really cares about. It doesn't matter if we like it or not, DD is just too small for capcom.

Despite its flaws I was having a lot of fun with the game. But after a patch my game just started crashing frequently. 200 hours in with no issues like it before. I saw some other people talk about having these crashes, although it was probably fairly rare. I made a report about it and put the game on hold, checking in after patches to see if it got fixed. This was back in May and maybe my issue has been resolved now, but I got bored of waiting and will probably not pick the game back up again before the DLC drops.

Hi,i played both DD1 and DD2 at launch, only got to play DA a decade later.
I remember when DD1 also "died" and was torn a new one pretty much on arrival,it also had day 1 mtx but i guess the "fans" forgot about that uh,it took several years for people to give it praise despite its *many* flaws, same fans that keep blindindgly praising BBI as the best thing ever created even though is just a set of rooms that kept repeating themselves, like a copypasted everfall (which 9/10 times ended up in several dead ends with doors that couldnt be opened) but without the novelty of dropping from the sky to explore it,with little to no variation, littered with the same exact enemies you fought for the last 30 hrs but with a different color palette and more hp,no thats not just a goblin, its a dark skin goblin, again, for the 100th time and in a paid dlc, with the rare exception of 1 or 2 actual new monsters.
Loved DD1,loved DA and loved D2,be happy it even happened, for better or for worse.
I cant wait for the inevitable "DD2 is a forgotten masterpiece" swarm of videos in the next 5 or 10 years, this is just another cycle.

DD had many issues and designs that pushed people away and went under the radar of most but had a cult following because it is indeed a good game. DD2 did the exact same thing. However, they didn't copy everything and decided to lower the amount of abilities and gear slots. It kinda feels like they deliberately left stuff out of the game to then have something to put in a content DLC later on. The dev didn't help the gear slots case by answering "we wanted to give players more variety"...if you can figure out how removing available slots increases variety and customization please let me know. DD 1 & 2 are really good games at their core, but both were sabotaged by poor and baffling decisions and kinda sad the devs learned nothing from DD shortcomings and made it even worse by taking away what DD did well and what fans liked about it. I think DD2 fate is gonna be exactly like DD, forgotten by most except that small following I'm proud to be apart of.

Way better Music (DD2 cannot compete)
Better Combat Classes (cannot feel the strength and growth of character)
Better world building (No dragon's dogma without Gran Soren)

I honestly dont see a dlc 'fixing' anything because it would have to effectively finish the base game and add more content.

I'm still playing and I can say that even if DD2 is worse than first game (which was the best game I ever played), it's still my favourite game since Cyberpunk 2077. It's good to have a challenging fantasy game without annoying Dark Souls fight system. Fights in DD2 are dynamic, epic and give satisfaction when you'll finally overcome an enemy which was problematic few hours earlier.

I will be enjoying this game for a long time to come I'm sure, it has heart, despite its flaws, just like the first one. A DLC like Bitterblack would be gold for this game.
I'm perfectly fine with this one also being ''an obscure flawed masterpiece'' like the first game that I can also pour my love into.

The enemy is on the inside, and has sabotaged it from the start.

As with all things, it amounts to money.
Monster Hunter was delayed, but shareholders/Capcom didn't want numbers to seem weak, so they forced out Dragon's Dogma II long before it was ready, to pad numbers. They knew it was going to fail, hence the microtransactions.
That's it. There won't be an overhaul, there probably won't be a DLC.

Don’t know how Itsuna saw all the praise for the combat DD1 got and decided we should have less to play with. A baffling choice by such a renown action game developer. Game should have all the vocations from 1 and secondary weapons. Not doing this hurt the game more than anything else.

I just checked to see how much time I've spent playing DDDA since late March. I bought the game then. I have spent 741 hours and 51 minutes playing this game. I absolutely love it. I plan on buying Dragon's Dogma II, but I have 🎉to buy a Ps5 first. Capcom may have sold more copies of DDII if it was on the PS4 as well. I know I would've bought it. I've been watching other's playthoughs of DDII to see what it's like. Mainly watching FightinCowboy right now. I wanted to see how badly the Dragon's plague effects the game play. I'm not going to say I wasn't disappointed that Capcom didn't bring back Mystic Knight or Magic Archer. I have many in my backlog that have been written off, but I enjoy them. I don't think any game really dies unless it's online and the developer shuts it down.

it just doesn't make sense why Capcom thought it would be a good idea to NOT put in the content DD:DA had...Everfall from OG Dragon's Dogma with UR Dragon was already 100+ hours alone, with Dark Arisen being released, Bitterblack Isle ended up gaining an additional 500+ hours from players (I had created 3 additional PSN accounts to create my own minmaxed party, which was already 100-200 hours because I would just powerlevel and give myself cursed gear.)
If Dragon's Dogma 2 had TRUE NG+ content and Endgame content, it would've had a high retained playerbase.
Even with mods (on PC) it only adds a little bit extra hours, but the lack of content and the fact that NG+ added nothing new was just heartbreaking because I really really REALLY enjoyed Dragon's Dogma

I haven't been this excited for a game since devil may cry 5, and ironically, I have yet to beat it. Reached Batthal and my interest completely vaporized. I was planning on coming back but I don't even know if I want to do that anymore. Maybe if they release a big expansion or something? But even then I'm honestly not sure. To me the game is lacking in way too many areas that no dlc would fix, like how the armor works in such an insanely limiting way, or base game enemy variety that a dlc like Dark Arisen would most likely not fix. And considering itsuno's last game, dmc5, didn't get the big dlc it was supposed to, and that was an actual successful game, I have no hope for this.
