Thanks for the great and simple trap demonstration. I remember YEARS ago seeing a field and stream magazine bird trap that actually used a mousetrap or rat trap and cage wire on a tin can to catch (very small) birds. However, they had to go INTO the tin can to get the bait and get caught. I LOVE your net idea. Thanks for sharing.
Although u lack fingers sir, but i have to admit you are doing a better job than i do! Respect for that! .. you truly inspire me! so Thank you a million
Awesome trap. My dad used the same type of net to protect his small fruit trees from birds, it ended up catching at least 1 bird every day because they became entangled in it. None of them died in the end luckily so no harm done.
Good video. I tried it, but my wire wasn't strong enough so I used a spring loaded gate hinge. Instead of the large wire loop, I made it out of the black hose you use for setting up irrigation systems. I also attached the net with cable ties.
I will haveto say this is the best bird trap and most easy to make and for that i subscribed kepp up the good work I hope you hit 1M subscribers sooon and good luck with your channel.
There isn't anything "wrong" with his hand. My mom knows a man who's hand is very similar and he's a mechanic. He can do incredible things with his hand some of us people with fingers can't even do. They can do the most complex things that most of us wouldn't even believe unless we see it. On to the subject of the video, that's an awesome bird trap :D It works well!! :)
Nice work mate I have seen something similar in a book on trapping but its great to see one made from scratch and then actually see it making a succesful catch! Well done mate!
you sir a amazing you have that done to your hand and you still dont let anything hold you back, yu are my role model to be sure. so much respect to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome! Loving that you actually demonstrated the trap! Also the locking pins are a great idea. Tell me, how stressful is the trap? In the city here the chances of catching a native are rare indeed, but how long could you leave a turtledove or myna there before dealing with it? Is it a weekend thing or can I set them and head off to work for the day? Kudos on not caring about the hand, I always hide my mangled thumb and finger, I wish I was that confident.
I love that you release native birds and keep the non-native birds. Non-native species often times cause the full extinction of native animals when they are not removed.
Brilliant.. thanks mate i have been looking everywhere for simple instructions for this kind of trap. i have used an arapuca type trap. made myself. caught a few things. cheers mate
You the best man, love the video. If you can in the future please show us how can we make the trap with the remote control. we have them here in UAE but wanna know how can we make them DIY
What's the diameter of the circle? I want to know it because, if it's to small the bird gets the time to escape and if it's too big the power to close will be harder too.
how are you man? sorry for the stupid comments others made they must don't realize how offensive this is, i like your trap,it looks similar in idea to commercial mouse and other traps, i downloaded the video to work on this later, i needed to know how did you mount the bait plate (the round one) on top of the metal piece you made in shape.?
Great video. I love learning new traps, especially primitive ways to make traps if you didn't have man made items, This trap technique could be used with primitive materials, thats what I like about this method.
I lost 3 fingers, and it does not hurt.. as you can see in the video its not a fresh wound, obviously he would not be making youtube videos if that just happened. You just need to adept a bit. Great video, subscribed for sure.
Yeah, it's really great to see you performing just as well and even better than some people with two fully functional hands...that's what we call determination :D
Another sensational Vid mate! You make us Aussies proud! If Aus ever comes under attack or we have a global food shortage and I want any chance of surviving, my best bet is to find you I recon lol! Again, another top Vid! Keep them coming. A++ Cheers Ben.
Very good, but I fear that the cunning mynahs and magpies would get wise to this trap rather quickly! Number 10 HT fencing wire would be rather more difficult to handle, but it's brilliantly springy if you have the tools to bend it as shown. Peter, NZ.
Wow man your hand wasnt formed went u was young but what i think is cool is that ur still up and running man u learned how to use your deformed hand i give u props
wonder if you could use wood instead of metal, and sap from trees instead of eggs. just finished watching "Alone" tv series (where people try to survive in Alaska for as long as possible) and trying to find traps one could use in nature.
I used a simple bricks and clothes pins trap once as a kid, but one of the bricks fell over and a poor little sparrow was killed. I know what I did wrong with it, but didn't try that trap again after that. This is a fantastic design, I ever try trapping again I might make one of these.
Very clever. When I was a kid, I had snakes I had to feed, and used a mousetrap baited with birdseed that was "glued" to the bait pedal with corn syrup. The birds would peck at the seeds and were killed by the trap. The snakes being equal opportunity predators accepted prey whether live or dead, so it wasn't an issue...
I've been looking to make my own bird trap. I love your design, and yes, you actually showed it working and catching a bird. Thanks Gordon.

This explains your traps in ARK ... its a passion that carries over ... nice
Excellent stuff man, as always! Your engineering skill in trap making never ceases to amaze me....
one of the best vids in all of youtube... thank you.
Excellent, excellent, excellent job. Your channel is very different than most others, keep it going in this direction and you have another subscriber.
Although u lack fingers sir, but i have to admit you are doing a better job than i do! Respect for that! .. you truly inspire me! so Thank you a million
this is the best trap I ever seen in my life ,, thanks mate very nice.
Awesome trap.
My dad used the same type of net to protect his small fruit trees from birds, it ended up catching at least 1 bird every day because they became entangled in it.
None of them died in the end luckily so no harm done.
Could you please explain the locking/trigger mechanism? Thanks.
This is one cool tap. Not sure I've ever seen anything like this. Awesome job dude.
Thats pretty awesome man do u think a dark net would be good if ur not there to get the bird straight away just so it keeps the bird carm ?
Scott Fraser No to be dark it would have to be so thick (a fabric) that it wouldn't be fast enough.
Dude ur cooool, don't let ur disabilities EVER hold u down . Two thumbs up to u man... Best of luck
i live in nyc and have been trying to catch a cardinal without any success. this will work. thanks mate!!!
Good video. I tried it, but my wire wasn't strong enough so I used a spring loaded gate hinge. Instead of the large wire loop, I made it out of the black hose you use for setting up irrigation systems. I also attached the net with cable ties.

Simple, cheap and effective. Well done.
Great video! What kind of bird is that blue and orange one?
nice vid - very cool, relatively easy to make trap. those two nails for the loop to catch on - that's a stroke of brilliance :)

is this a better design than the box and mouse trap you made?
Nice work mate I have seen something similar in a book on trapping but its great to see one made from scratch and then actually see it making a succesful catch! Well done mate!
you sir a amazing you have that done to your hand and you still dont let anything hold you back, yu are my role model to be sure. so much respect to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By now he should be considering customizing a T-shirt saying ''I was in WAR, now stop asking''
great idea. a good way to take the flex out of the trigger wire is to heat and quench it, making it a lot harder and tenser.
Clever. Thanks. I'm trying to catch some peacocks. Your trap might not have enough fling for a bigger hoop but for smaller birds it's a winner.
what are the items needed ?
and from where did you get such spikes
Awesome trap mate. Good ingenuity. You got a thumbs up from me.
Where do you llive?Because the orange/blue bird looked cool.
Awesome! Loving that you actually demonstrated the trap! Also the locking pins are a great idea.

Kudos on not caring about the hand, I always hide my mangled thumb and finger, I wish I was that confident.
i think this is one of the best i have seen it dose not hurt the bird at all and very practical thanks for this video
very useful trap, is it possible to catch fast-moving birds? like sparrows or something else.
I love that you release native birds and keep the non-native birds. Non-native species often times cause the full extinction of native animals when they are not removed.
eespect this guy he is still making videos for us even when he has 1 hand like if you agree with me!
High tensile fencing wire, what farm fences are made of.
I have that pdf and instantly recognized this trap haha. Awesome. Got some great stuff in there!
Brilliant.. thanks mate i have been looking everywhere for simple instructions for this kind of trap.
i have used an arapuca type trap. made myself. caught a few things.
cheers mate
Ever know you have no fingers u are so talented 💖💓💕

hey i dont understand the last part of your video, how do you trigger the trap???
I done this then the crow is now attached to me and I tried letting go but it will stay with me so I keep it as a pet
What's the diameter of the circle? I want to know it because, if it's to small the bird gets the time to escape and if it's too big the power to close will be harder too.
Just stumbled across your channel and love your videos!

what make the wire come back ??? !!!
is there a metal spring ???!
Very good, but I fear that the cunning mynahs and magpies would get wise to this trap rather quickly! Number 10 HT fencing wire would be rather more difficult to handle, but it's brilliantly springy if you have the tools to bend it as shown. Peter, NZ.
What species did you make this trap for? Like Indian Mynahs or something?
