    I agree with everything you said here. Nicks are intentionally built to be workhorses. They incorporate the thickest, highest quality leathers available into both the upper and the sole for longevity. Their intention isn't a casual or a luxury boot, but rather something that can stand the serious test of time! Definitely something I'd want to wear in the trenches hahaha

    I think a huge part of what you're talking about is due to the lug sole. I have a pair of White's that are mostly city boots but do get a decent amount of wear offroad in the countryside through mud, gravel, fields, etc. that are on a commando sole, and when they're due for a rebuild I was thinking about throwing that V100 sole on them. But the more I think about it, the more I think I'd wind up in just the territory you're talking about - going from "this guy has a cool sort of heritage, rugged style" to "this is cosplay." Simply swapping out the V100 for something like a Vibram 430, 700/705, 269, or a Dr. Soles sole would maintain the heritage look but bring you back into the realm of the sensible, all other things about the boot remaining the same.

    Yeah, I don't know why you went with the Urban Logger. That seems like the furthest style from your own. I have a pair of Roberts and love them. Built tough af, and while the heel is big, they're still super comfy and look great in medium brown W&C.

    Some interesting points that I had never really considered before. It may be a dumb question but with such a high heel and sole unit, how stable did you find them? I ask as I love logger style boots but have issues with ankle roll.

    I think my Nicks are perfect. Definitely not a city boot, but for me and many others who live in the cold north of the America's they are great snow/rain boots with leather so thick you can stand in a river in the winter and feel no difference. I own the Nicks Falcon (8" in Predator Orange) and the Nicks BuilderPros (10" in 1964 brown) - I use them for motorcycle riding. Make no mistake about it, the Falcon is an overbuilt beastly boot as well. It weighs 30% more than more than my Iron Rangers and the leather is 50% thicker than the copper rough and tough. I do prefer the Falcons to the BuilderPros though - the block heal with the 430 mini lug makes the boot much more versatile in general.

  • @osgoodbad
    @osgoodbad Рік тому +2

    I think you're overthinking things. The Robert is a casual boot with a casual sole. You own what is basically a Robert with slightly bigger lugs and better traction. In this case I think your personal knowledge is working against you and making you needlessly self-conscious. This isn't cosplay. Like your White's Bounty Hunters, you can wear them in the city and then choose to climb a mountain in them. You've simply chosen a boot that can do it all. And there's nothing wrong with a casual boot that won't faint at the sight of a puddle.

    First... An Hour of walking per day for 2 months = 60 hours. Nicks need minimum 80 hours just to start feeling like it doesn't want to kill you.
    For a City Slicker, you really should have gotten some Roberts in with Horween Chrome Excel. It's a smooth 6-6.5oz leather that is more fashionable, and breaks in easier than 8oz rough out.

    Another advantage of higher heels are when you bend your knees down to pick up something heavy or squat in general, normally your heel comes off the ground and your balancing yourself on the ball of your foot, with higher heel boots like that your heel is going to stay grounded making for a more stable, balanced and comfortable motion.

    I am somewhat torn, I love the look and idea of the boot but realize that it is too much of a boot for what I do. I have more than a dozen boots already such as grant stone, parkhurst, bordon, helm, etc (you hooked me) and being a finish carpenter, I lean toward lighter workboots such as redwing 875, wilcox kern, truman Java wax flesh and even the Jim Green African Rangers. Those boots are perfect for what I do, moderately tough work conditions yet nice and light enough to wear casually which I do. The NIcks and other heavy type PNW overbuilt boots weigh like 3 pounds per boot and are kinda clunky. They would be too heavy duty for the work I do...but yet I look at them with envy. If I lived in the country and was cutting down trees, digging trenches or doing concrete work, then they would be perfect. But climbing stairs, laying out cabinets, installing moulding...these boots are overkill and would actually make my day harder. I think I want to buy them and cosplay with them.

    Nice to see someone of your generation here on YT getting it. Nothing wrong with rebelling against fake cheap stuff and desiring genuine handmade quality. It is good taste. But don't lose your head over what looks good on YT. Want a pair of $800 loggers? Think they're cool? Have you ever had any logger? Do you know what a logger is? Ever been in the woods? Do you even respect these things? I ask for a sincere reason. Cause if not there's some arrogance and yes ignorance there. Ever seen professional loggers or tree surgeons work? Even in a YT vid? Probly the most dangerous work. OK you get the point.

    Another justification id add to the urban side of this boot would be the arch support. Boots made with the veg tan leather insoles etc arent gonna have the same kind of arch support as a logger boot will. Yea you can find moderate arch support in other styles. But typically, the lower the heel, the lower the support. So if you have high arches, the extra weight and rigidity of this boot might be worth it for you

You mentioned that you were only wearing 1hr a day for 8 weeks (with little to no break-in time). Why are there such heavy boots with toothed soles in the city? This is also the same as driving a Humvee along narrow asphalted streets)

    I appreciate your honesty. I am looking forward to my urban loggers any day now ! I think the profile is absolutely beautiful and bad ass. Love my 350 cruisers, how do they feel compared to to your cruisers? Why did you choose a work leather over a heritage? Thanks!

    As someone who grew up performing manual labor, I have a love and nostalgia for boots like this, but since I don’t have to work like that anymore, I’d like something to remind me of my past but still be usable in my now urban life. I want a pair.

    Really good video and I enjoyed the review 👍🏾 Years when worked in construction these would be great and money saver. Now days I prefer less of a beefy construction. I have been looking at the Robert, Americana and the Falcon for everyday wear 👀 Like the channel with the good content and review awesomeness 💯💯💯😉

    Great review. I also found that Nicks are not for me. They are really well made and beautiful boots but the amount of leather in the footbed made it hard to wear because of my collapsed arches. I might buy a lower arch model in the future but for now my Whites are much more comfortable.

    At least with me, I've noticed a lot more static electricity when wearing these boots.
    Maybe it's the extra screws in the sole? Or just all the nails? I'm not sure.
    Obviously this only happens indoors. I need to change boots if I plan to be anywhere near any electronics.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  Рік тому

      that's so interesting, it must be all the nails in there because the shank is leather!

    I ordered mine last week. When they showed the ones on Instagram with the Horween natural CXL and the Vibram honey lugs I was sold. I have been wanting a pair of boots with that scooped tall logger heel and this is such a unique cobination/look I had to bite.....especially since they are only making 50 pairs. Only thing that has me worried is the weight. I am a city boot guy and usually wear BedStu, Redwing, or Untamed Street but these Nicks are so unique. Maybe it will be more of a cosplay type thing for me but I think I am in a rural enough area I can make that work. Thanks for the great reviews as always !! (On a side note, I know you are not much of a zipper guy but have you ever checked out the BedStuboots? Specifically their Protege Trek? They are quick and easy to put on, strongest zipper I have ever had on a boot, they are comfy, tough, and always get compliments.....may be worth checking out. )

      Yep, Urban drifter, overlander, or Officer boot have lower profiles but still have a bkue collar element. I have a lace to toe and an urban drifter in the low arch last and they blend in but people notice quick that they are not off the shelf
